AGPtek Ultra HD 4K*2K 3D HDBaseT HDMI Network Extender w/ Bi-directional IR Remote – Does its job efficiently without fuss.

Works on cat 5 screened cable-50m. I initially installed these unit on a 3 metre cat 5 patch lead to test the units. At first i had a few issues getting the units to display video reliably but after pressing the reset button on the transmit and receiving unit a couple of times every thing was fine. I then ran just under 50m of cat 5 screened cable and 50m of cat 6 screened cable from my sky box to the tv in my office. I connected the cat 5 screened cable expecting the units not to work as the cable was not to specification but it worked perfectly. The unit has been working on the cat 5 cable for two days now with a perfect picture and ir remote operation. Still haven’t tested the units on the cat 6 cable but i would expect it to work. If you are going to use cat 6 cable be forewarned that the connectors are not the same as the cat 5 connectors as the conductors are of a heavier gauge of wire. Update-tested on 50m cat 6 cable with sky box, worked well. Tested cat 6 cable again but with a 1080i and 1080p signal from a wd media player, neither worked but the 720 mode worker fine.

The easiest way to get quality hdmi by external cabling. . For ages i have been trying to find a way to extend hdmi to my kitchen without destroying half the house first. As everyone knows; the hdmi plugs are pre-fitted and require an enormous hole to accommodate them; also even the mini hdmi plugs are not supplied on suitable outdoor cable. Together with 15 metres of high quality cat 6a professional gold cable i read the instructions and fitted it within an hour. A 12mm hole was all that was required – well within the capacity of my cordless drill. All connected up and powered up. Hey presto we have a beautiful picture on the ‘sovos’ in the kitchen; also the virgin remote works all functions as if in the living room. I really cannot praise this system highly enough. Post script i also tried this initially with a 20 metre cable and the results were the same – that should be enough for even the most demanding requirements.

I initially had an issue where i was powering it. I initially had an issue where i was powering it from a trend poe 1gbit converter (max 1. 5a) where it tripped the device (ie. 5a at a point in time), but have since just used the adapters provided and it works perfectly. Been running for a week now without a hitch. Here are the specifications for the AGPtek Ultra HD 4K*2K 3D HDBaseT HDMI Network Extender w/ Bi-directional IR Remote:

This item arrived today and i immediately set about installing it. I know it says it requires cat6 but i decided to try it with an existing run of unshielded cat5. (no point in running new cable) the run was about 20 meters and it worked perfectly first time. I am using it to run sky q to another tv (magiceye replacement). It does require power at either end but that’s a small price to pay to eliminate the need for a sky q mini and the extra monthly cost that entails.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Works on CAT 5 screened cable-50m
  • Works as desired, but always running hot to the touch.
  • Good but could be better!!

I now have xbox one in my bedroom.

Works ok – image was a little dark and slightly laggy but it would have been fine for my use case. Works ok – image was a little dark and slightly laggy but it would have been fine for my use case, unfortunately it renders rest of network unusable. House is cabled up with cat6 and a gigabit router and has been tested at 800-900mbit/sec. When this device is plugged into the network everything else (network shares, internet etc) grinds to a halt. Tried various ports and devices all to the same result. Perhaps the bandwidth of streaming 1080p simply maxes out the router and you need a 10gb version but it would have been nice to know this before purchasing.

Worked first time connecting a sky+ hd box. Worked first time connecting a sky+ hd box to a smart tv approximately 15 meters away over standard cat 5e cable.

They work wellsending my xbox one to my summer house from the av cabinet about 25mworks fine at 720p however the minute the xbox is set to 1080p i get audio crackling and the picture drops out every 30 seconds or so. I am using 100% copper ethernet cable which conforms to cat6 standards. I am an it professional so i know what i am doing but cannot get them to run at 1080p. I even tried it with a 2m cable and still get the dropout when set to 1080p. Maybe i just have slightly faulty units i will see how they go for a while.

Use good quality cat6 or even cat7 and you will get great results.

Brutal on lan traffic – better instructions and more configuration options needed, but does the job. . Very useful device – works extremely well, and if you only have a small quiet network with not a lot going on you will be fine – but if you have a few devices like sonos, nas file transfers, iptoir controllers they can be brutal. Sonos gets wiped out completely if your sonos units are restarted, other devices just drop off. I counted 58,000+ packets of data in less than 2 mins – leaving very little room for everything else. I was forced to put them on a vlan but that involves two managed switches and it’s not for the average user to configure. The best thing you can do with these is just run it’s own cable between the two and don’t put them on your main network. These are the same as the monoprice units and they have a firmware upload webpage built in if you know the ip. Would be great if these things could set their own vlans but they don’t – you have to set it yourself. Some people think that these run better on gigabit – doesn’t make any difference as they only run at 10/100.

Does its job efficiently without fuss. . This unit does its job very well. It certainly does not get too warm indeed one unit is slightly warm and the other cold. The infra red facility also works well and the unit has a competitive price. Similar units with different brand names appear to be available but these are more expensive.

  3. Far superior to the cheaper solutions – you get what you. Works perfectly at 1080p / 60fps for gaming, tv and editing with no discernable delay or degradation. Far superior to the cheaper solutions – you get what you pay for. Picture cuts out for a second or two every few minutes if powered from the sender. Connecting the supplied power supply to the receiver seems to fix this (no issues in ~10 hours of use).

Awesomeness in a cardboard box. Bought it to connect telly in another room, link through feature doesn’t down scale the original source like others do. Picture in other room is perfect rescaling to exact picture size. I’ve run a 25 meter cable but used a full 50 meters to test and no loss of quality. I did buy power line links originally but they are not compatible with each other (my fault for not reading throughly). Nice and small unit easy to connect and hide away out of sight, plenty of cable for remote eye tx/rx. Other than my stupidity i cannot fault it. Thinking of getting another if truth be told.

      1. Perfect picture at over 50 metres (as long as you’re. Well built and work perfectly. I’m using these to transmit signal from remote cameras to monitor while filming live events. Perfect picture at over 50 metres (as long as you’re using good quality cable). Also very handy having built in mounting points to attach to equipment. I can’t comment on the infra red function as i don’t use this facility.
