Audio-Technica AT-LP60 Fully Automatic Belt-Drive Stereo Turntable – Excellent turntable

Superb turrntable, sound is great| i am playing back through a sansui r7 amplifier which although 30 years old still sounds great.

Astonishingly good performance for the price. I have been umm-ing and ahh-ing about getting back into vinyl for a while – i love my tech, and buy hi-res downloads from qobuz, so would i really ever go all retro and start using a record player?. After all, i am a child of the cd generation – i remember boasting of the benefits of cds to my unimpressed parents – but then, who among us knew at the time that we were getting a raw deal in terms of actual sound quality?.It’s easy to say that we must have known it was all compressed down, but back then we played in the roads, we watched knight rider, the future was ours, and these little silver discs were new and exciting and futuristic so the must be betterthe wife was dismissive (she’s a fair woman, she knows me well) – a waste of money/time/effort, what about the sound system, etc etc. Good points all, but the stubborn bit of me wanted to go back to the purer, richer sound of vinyl records – but i compromised and got an entry level audio technica to see if my infatuation was simply that. I expected little more from the budget turntable than to be able to play records and give me a clue as to whether i wanted the hassle of changing lps again, but the sound quality is superb – it is connected to a sony str-dn1050 via the included audio cables, no pre-amp required, and the bass is deep, rich and mellow, the vocals are improved over cd quality, and i’m noticing more nuance on even well-known albums. Playing tron legacy there is a definite sparkle to the sound, with a weighty bass and it all sounds, well, more immediate. I also love the fact it is all automatic, has an in-built phono stage, and, aside from fitting the platter, there is nothing you have to do manually to set it up – again, ticking all the boxes for a first player. Or getting-nack-into-vinyl player.

Stylus isn’t too heavy like some of players in this price range – so. Neat little compact player this, stylus isn’t too heavy like some of players in this price range – so it doesn’t gouge my treasured vinyl. Here are the specifications for the Audio-Technica AT-LP60 Fully Automatic Belt-Drive Stereo Turntable:

This budget lp player is best in it’s class and plays my 40 year old lps with no problems. Easy assembly, quick hook up to av receiver for sound output and from then on its just pure music with no strings attached.

Very smooth operation, and the auto start/stop system isn’t heavy as people have said. It actually does it rather delicately.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Astonishingly good performance for the price
  • Very good value for money & my son was so impressed
  • Great entry level turntable

I was looking for something easy to use. For my first turntable, i was looking for something easy to use, cheap but also with quality. After read some reviews, i have decided to buy this audio-technica. It is simply awesome, it has a nice sound, even with my average 5. 1 surround system, and i love the awesome design. It is very easy to use, because it’s fully automatic, you just need to put the vinyl and press start.

Sound is crisp and i did not have any issues so far.

Does a great job for the price. For the price it definitely gets the job done well, i was impressed with the aluminium platter and overall feel of the turntable. One modification i made for older scratched up records was put a small weight on the end of the tone arm so it wouldn’t skip as much.

Great to hear the quality of my old vinyl collection again, vocals are so much clearer.

I found set up more tricky than most buyers, but fiddling about with leads and jack plugs is not my scene. Much better tone than a cheaper turntable i had and the small speakers surprisingly powerful. I would have liked a bass boost and longer cables in order to separate the speakers more, but for the price it’s good and looks quite stylish.

We’re very happy with this turntable. This was a christmas gift for my boyfriend. I was afraid, because he’s very picky with this things, but he loved it.We’re very happy with this turntable.

He seems very happy with it. He seems very happy with it.

Great turntable speakers a bit small and tinny but nothing a better set hasnt sorted out.

Amazing build and audio quality. This record player is worth every penny. The sp121bk active speakers are surprisingly good and very loud, i would highly recommend them to those who do not already have a set of stereo speakers. I have no complaints whatsoever.

Running too fast – but fixed. Delivery to france exactly on time as predicted. The unit works ok as described but only after i had to scour the internet for information on how to adjust the turntable speed. As shipped it ran far too fast on both settings. There was nothing to help in the instructions but somebody on a far away forum said i had to find two holes in the base and use a jeweller’s screwdriver to adjust a tuning screw. I quite like this sort of thing but thousands wouldn’t so amazon can expect a flood of returns if my unit is anything to go by. Having said all that it plays all my old records ok which was the object of the exercise and wasn’t too expensive.

    1. The best way into vinyl for a 1st time user. I recently acquired the at lp60 after months of research into turntables, amps and speakers. I was prepared to spend much more to get a more sophisticated hi-fi system, however as i’m learning the ropes of this format it just isn’t necessary. This turntable is very simple to install and very easy to operate. For someone new to vinyl, i find the idea of handling records and alligning tone-arms and anti-staking very intimidating. . That is all taken care for you with the lp60. The tone arm is pre-set to a light tracking force that will not damage your records, the automatic play/stop feature means i don’t have to fiddle, i just gently drop a record onto the platter and away you go. Most importantly, it provides a great sound. I have this connected to an old sanyo receiver with some modest speakers and it sounds fantastic, particularly with older rock records. Its just so simplethe lp 60 has a built-in pre-amp, meaning you can connect it right to an amplifier, or to a pair of powered speakers and you’re away with a low-cost but good quality system to enjoy vinyl records.

    1. Good turntable, terrible speakers. There is a price difference of 50 pounds between the turntable and this version with the speakers. There is no point in buying the speakers option, they are pointlessly quiet; i had a youtube video playing on my phone and it was overriding the speakers on full blast. I’m really perplexed by this. Overall, i like the turntable, took 5 minutes to set it up.

The included speakers are practically inaudible in the highest volume setting unfortunately, so my hunt for a great turntable is still going on. To be fair the audio quality sounded good when we were absolutely quiet, but simple chatter was overshadowing the speakers, negating that way the main pro of this product, which was the included speakers. I i am returning it to amazon and will keep looking for a different one.

Few small set ups to do before. Few small set ups to do before you can play it, but if you follow the instructions its simple. I didnt expect the sound quality to be much from the speakers, however that was the biggest surprise, for small speakers they pack a punch. No need to be picking up the needle with shaky hands, its fully automatic. Stop and start is automatic and the ability to auto lift and place the stylus so you can guide it to a desired track are all a bonus which i didnt have with my other player. If you are thinking of dusting off your vinyls and want a player with speakers to get you going, you wont go far wrong with this.
