Audio-Technica Audio Technica ATLP120USB USB Turntable : Excellent deck. Rock solid

A great turntable, with stunning good looks and useful facilities. It comes already fitted with an excellent cartridge.

Great build quality and good looks. I wanted to get back into vinyl triggered by the announcement that the technics 1200mk that is going back into production in april 2016. When i saw the gbp4000 price for the technics, i decided i didn’t want to get back into vinyl quite that much. A little bit of digging brought up this gem. It is 1/10 the price yet sturdily built and with a powerful motor. The timing light is blue giving a nice cast when in operation. There is a usb output but i connected it to my stereo using the phono leads. The unit comes with a shure stylus, but i bought an ortofon concorde pro with it as it looks cooler. I am really, really pleased.

  • USB output – connects directly to your computer
  • Mac and PC compatible Audacity software digitizes your LPs
  • Direct drive 16-pole, three phase motor for unwavering speed stability along with easy back-cueing
  • Selectable 33/45/78 RPM speeds
  • S-shaped tone arm with adjustable tracking force and anti-skate adjustment

Good but can be even better. Straight out of the box it works fine, however for those brave souls who like tinker it is possible to extract a lot more music out this deck. Replace the felt mat with a cork mat (easy) – improves bassstep 2. Upgrade the cartridge (not so easy) – the standard at95e is again ok but a second hand shure m75 ed 2 is even betterstep 3. Add extra tone arm balance weight (???) i found that the there was not enough weight to balance the cartridge and therefore the weight sat too far back. Solution i glued 2 large washers to the back of the balance weight (the washer had to be drilled to increase clearance) this mod should improve tracking. This is the biggie and definitely invalidates the warranty and only to be attempted if your amp has a phono stage. Open up the casing and remove the built in pre amp (you will no longer be to connect your turntable to a pc to digitise your lp’s) this mod will improve the signal path to your amplifier and free up the music.

For our son’s 18th birthday – he is absolutely delighted with it. Bought this for our son’s 18th birthday – he is absolutely delighted with it.

Superb sound & aesthetics. . Absolutely excellent piece of kit. Software for pc’s to record & convert to digital format is very comprehensive that should do virtually anything you would need. Connects via phono leads for direct connection to an amplifier or usb to a computer.

Audio Technica ATLP120USB USB Turntable : I,ve just brought this turntable, its great, easy to set up, and easy to operate,i had a sony before,it was very plastic, the atlp120 is solid,i,d recommend this to anyone who wants perfection.

Top value – easy to set up with newer instructions. Comes in a neat little package with more instructions than the reviews from 2014. Unpack really carefully and follow the instructions closely (i didn’t, at first, but started again). However the best bit is listening to your first record on it, after the 30 minutes or so setting it up (which isn’t hard). Sound quality excellent after 15 years of using another leading brand with a belt drive. All in all, for the price, it is exceptional value and worth paying that bit extra over and above the ‘budget’ ones. I am really happy with this.

Hinged dust cover has a small crack in it but apart from that all is well.

Very good turntable for the money. Very good turntable for the money. However there are a few issues. The anti skate is not strong enough for anything that tracks over 1g. It won’t accept moving coil cartridges as there is an awful hum. The tonearm doesn’t go low enough so you need to add shims under the headshell to get the arm parallel. I’m using it with a shure m55e as it is the lightest tracking cart i have, sound quality is very good, and speed the turntable runs at a true speed.

As yet another one of those people rediscovering their vinyl i wanted a decent table but not some cheapo thing that you would get from tescos. Originally i was going to get the atlp60 but after doing my research i went for the 120 instead. Records sound great and the turntable itself is a thing of beauty.

Mid- budget price, high end quality. Very well packaged and protected. Easy to understand manuals with an additional helpful quick set up guide ‘recommend tacking your time and doing it properly though’. Quality manufactured product, you really get what you pay for.Essentially a copy of the technics sl1210 m5g turntable. Runs and plays with absolutely no faults and i have had it for a year now. Not only is the build and function great but most importantly the audio output quality is excellent, not to mention looks beautiful. Only wish the lid hinges were metal but they are built solidly. Highly recommend for someone wanting to really getting into records and mixing but only with a mid budget.

Great turntable, delivered super fast. Great turntable, delivered super fast, going to uprade to the lp1240 at some point but these are perfect for what i need right now. Very solid and the at95e is extremely good for the price.

Magic works a treat on my system.

Fantastic mid range turntable. Item arrived within 24 hours very easy to set up and assemble i’m personally not interested in transferring my vinyl to digital i just want to enjoy my vinyl record collection so i have a standard set up with pioneer dm-40 active speakers the sound is out of this world especially for a small size room i have to say for a turntable under 250 pounds this is an excellent solid turntable one drawback is that the tonearm doesn’t go back on its own when the record has finished playing but that’s my only issue worth every penny.

Easy to set up, have had no problems so far. Intend to change the stylus in a few months. Recommend as a decent starter turntable no matter what age or amount of records.

    1. I would have liked less noise. Everyting about the deck is okay. There is some mechanical noise caused by metal rotating against metal(?). It is hard to know what to expect in terms of moise from a metal platter turning, a motor running. I would have liked less noise, i would have felt more confident in its structural integrity. I used to own a rega planar (30 years old) but how much do spend reparing it?i thought about buying a 2nd hand system deck but chose this at £170. Into a nad amp through the deck input the audio technice suffered with sibilance. It sounded better through its own pre.

Quality turntable, excellent price. . Being in my mid 40’s i’ve been looking for a quality turntable but didn’t want to stretch to the top end of £1000+, i must say i am really chuffed i kept to my budget. Having looked at other turntables in the £300 region i was rather disappointed all flash and no substance. This deck is a well made and built sturdy. Sound is great through both media, good fun with the new app on the computer. All in all excellent value, smashing looking and the envy of all my mates.
