AudioEngine D3 Premium 24 Bit Digital Anaolgue Convertor : OK Amplifier – Not So Great DAC

I am not exactly an audiophile, so i was a bit in doubt if this was worth the price (more than my beloved harman kardon soundsticks ii). Many people probably won’t hear any difference, just like many people can’t taste any difference between a good burger and a crap one. And ok, the difference does not hit you in the face. But to me there *is* a clear difference, and a very pleasant one. The treble sounds are less ‘sharp’ while still be better defined. There’s better space, and the overall sound is more precise and relaxed, and just pleasant. If you care about sound and you can afford a little luxury like this, i recommend it.

Better options available (i suggest geekout v1 or v2). Decent sound, better options available (i suggest geekout v1 or v2).

I use an imac 2011, and didn’t notice any improvement except for a bit more volume.

Audioengine D3 Premium 24 Bit Digital Anaolgue Convertor (DAC) USB Audio Amplifier : Ok amplifier – not so great dac. Hi,i’ve been using this dac with my sennheiser hd 598 on a regular basis now. This really does amplify the sound and even amplifies the bass (has a separate option to boost bass to a significant level). While i must say that it definitely enhances the sound volume which makes certain notes more pronounced, but it seems that the sound _quality_ isn’t as good when i compare it to my laptop (without using this dac/amp). The sound is a lot cleaner (though with much less bass) without these amps on my laptop.

It was a toss up between the audioquest dragonfly and this, both very similar products, both excellent. I went with this and don’t regret it at all, it looks great and sounds great.
