B&O PLAY by Bang & Olufsen Beoplay M5 Music System Multiroom Wireless Home Speaker – Natural : Good sound – if you can get it to work

I would give it 4. 5 stars if i could. Sounds great, looks even better and is very easy to use. We love this speaker and use it all the time. Its so easy to use on airplay and bluetooth. We have an audio system throughout our home but this gets used more then anything. The reason i have not given it 5 stars is because its expensive, and for that price i think there should be better sound options. Its very punchy, which is great for certain types of music, but when listening to classical for instance, you can change the audio settings on the source equipment but it still has too much base. Pros:looks stylish and classysounds very goodvery easy to usebest of all the wireless speakers i have usedcons:pricebit to punchy.

Given bang & olufsen’s reputation i did not expect to receive one of their products costing the equivalent of a southern rail season ticket and end up rating it as simply, ‘ok’. Sound = the sound quality is blissful. The bass is strong, i like it erring that way. So strong on reggae that at full volume the furniture will start migrating across the room. Likewise for big numbers it will fill a house – terrace dwellers beware. The experts at b&o also have that knack of producing clarity when you want music at low volume. There is no fuzziness or fudge in the sound. All of the foregoing is just as well because good luck if you want to change any of the settings.

Five star sound – four star frustration in setting up. Sometimes you have to forgive a lot in life – some things are worth it. This speaker is one of them. The sound quality would move you to tears, it is so rich, clear and velvety. It’s as if the singer is in the room with you. Listening to natalie merchant’s new tigerlily recordings on this is utterly spellbinding. The bass from this speaker is phenomenal – maybe a little too much at times, but it certainly fills the room. However connectivity issues would make you weep in utter frustration. These have been amply detailed in other reviews – all i can say is, they aren’t exaggerating. Bluetooth is a breeze – straight out of the box.

Received delivery of the m5 today (prime delivery fantastic as usual) i have numerous b&o products and as normal this product doesn’t disappoint, in fact it’s surpassed all expectation for such a compact device, multiroom works perfectly and the bass response is fantastic, actually sounds better than my beosound 1, but at nearly a third of the cost.

B&O PLAY by Bang & Olufsen Beoplay M5 Music System Multiroom Wireless Home Speaker – Natural : Plugged it in, installed the b&o app on iphone and it found the device, connected to my wifi and has given me zero issues at all. Sounds bassy in ‘freestanding’ mode but balanced in ‘corner’ mode. Definitely happy with this speaker.

This is an excellent speaker. This is an excellent speaker. Not only does it look good, but i found it easy to set up and use. You can connect to it via any bluetooth compatible device, which means a good range of music can be played. I also purchased a bluetooth transmitter for my stereo, which allowed me to easily play music via the stereo. I could have connected the stereo to it via a wire, but my current room set up doesn’t allow for that. Easy to turn the volume up or down by turning the top of the speaker. Really good, deep sound, which easily fills a big room. The design of the speaker also makes the sound sound non directional.

      1. Setup is very easy and works like a charm. I don’t know why people complaining when you have a product that produces high-quality audio. Setup is very easy and works like a charm. This is now the latest addition to my beoplay multi room.

    1. Very classy packing, looks great from the off as does the actual speaker itself. I found the set up very frustrating. I could use it as a bluetooth speaker straight away (without using b&o software) but could not get it to connect to the wireless network. I phoned the tech on the support line who was very polite and tried his best to help but it came down to one fact, you cant do anything settings wise until its on the network which for me meant borrowing a network cable to plug it in to the router so i could use the bang & olufsen app to reset the speaker then set up the wireless network. Took me 2 days to get it on the network, not what you expect from such an expensive product. Once it was connected i love this speaker. Incredible sound as you would expect and very loud if you want it to be (like) really really loud (dude). If anything its just a bit too basey and theres no way to adjust it. The volume control on the top seems a bit of a gimmick and doesnt work particularly well the only other buttons on it are underneath, the power button and network button, so to turn it off you have to turn it upside down and push the button.

I was excited to receive this b&o speaker since the name itself is synonymous with good quality and sound. Upon opening the box i was delighted to see a beautiful 360 degree speaker, with no visible buttons obscuring the silver/grey tones it looks sleek and expensive (which obviously it is). I read the instructions, simply download the beoplay app on a device and you’re ready to go in minutes, excellent …hmmm …well that’s where it falls short. Download the app …checkfind the device on the app …failrestart device …checkrestart speaker …checkfind the device …fail…skip to a montage of kittens playing with ball of string before discovering snow for the first time. Oh look, their tails are like little aerials just poking throughgive up with beoplay …checkconnect via bluetooth …checksuccess. So i finally have a bluetooth speaker, oh good another one, yeah…so the sound is exceptional, clear, and what you would expect from a much larger unit. The bass is a little too much for my ears and i am yet to work out exactly how to change this but on the plus side at least i can put the neighbours in their place when they crank up their stereo. Overall i was expecting so much more from this device, like control over the speaker. (cue montage again, as the connectivity has just dropped out)perhaps i am being harsh and this is in fact one of those robots that has come to take over our jobs and ultimately the human race.

      1. Good sound – if you can get it to work. This is a good sounding speaker unit if – and it’s a big if – you can actually get it working. I’m not the most technical person in the world, but the wireless set-up using the ap is a frustrating experience, with frequent restarts and reboots before actually being able to find and connect the device. Simple plug in and play, it aint. Despite being a single speaker setup, this gives a surprisingly wide sound, though inevitably if you are an audiophile you’ll want separate speakers for a genuine stereo sound – this seems to be more aimed at house parties, and the volume is certainly enough that you can plonk this in the middle of the room and have your neighbours trying to evict you within minutes. The price-point is hideously expensive, but then you are paying for the bang & olufsen name – ultimately whilst it does sound good, the amount of faffing around it takes to get it to work makes it terribly overpriced in my opinion. But if you can afford it, and don’t mind the set-up time, this could be for you.
