Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Wireless Speaker – – If you have the money, then buy it!

Great buy to get big sound for a larger room. No, not when you hear the sound that it produces.Great buy to get big sound for a larger room.

Simple set up and delightful sound. A century ago the mention of a zeppelin would have produced connotations of something dark, fearful, sinister and silent among the populace of britain. Today, although the colour and shape may be similar, the expectations and results are totally different. Much smaller in proportions, a bowers & wilkins zeppelin now produces bright and beautiful sounds that light up the musical perceptions of the listener. It is full of hidden high-tech features whose performance will just blow you away, in the nicest possible fashion. It offers a variety of options for connectivity. Before making any decision which to take up, you will need to download the bowers & wilkins control app. As an ios user, i did so initially to my ipad. I then followed the instructions given on the app and linked it to my wireless network. I subsequently then completed a bluetooth pairing between the ipad and speaker.

A perfect pairing for amazon echo and spotify. Bowers & wilkins make the best sounding speakers period. This is my second zeppelin after buying the original many years ago. I decided that i had to move with the times and get wireless as everything else in my flat is heading that way. The zeppelin air looks amazing, there is just no other speaker that comes close to it. The sound is outstanding for a stand alone unit. Bass is deep, warm and distortion free whilst the mids are punchy and the highs have a beautiful clarity. I would recommend visiting your local stockist and have a listen. Set up was very easy with my mac and using spotify connect is such a pleasure as it connect seamlessly. I am now using spotify through the zeppelin via my amazon echo. Here are the specifications for the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Wireless Speaker –:

The sound is of a clear and flawless quality that is far superior to any other speakers i’ve had. I got the zeppelin speaker for christmas. I had perviously bought bowers & wilkins p3 headphones which i was impressed with and when looking at speakers they also seemed the logical choice as the brand to go with. I was equally impressed with the sound right from the beginning from the zeppelin, the sound is of a clear and flawless quality that is far superior to any other speakers i’ve had. I was able to set up the bluetooth connection in seconds, however the airplay connection took some considerable time. After resetting the device a few times i was able to get the speaker to join the wi-fi network using the airport utility on my mac rather than the bowers & wilkins software i downloaded from their website which would not work no matter how many times i tried.

Tried muso, play 5, bose soundtouch 30 and this is the best of the lot. . I initially bought the naim mu-so thinking that it would be superior but i was unbelievably disappointed. I returned it after 1 week, dont get me wrong it sounded very muscular and has bass that raised even my eyebrows as a seasoned audiophile but i found it lacking in that high end clarity that i would expect from a high end product and try turning this thing up to party volumes. The whole audio spectrum distorts and the bass drivers over extend even on the lowest bass settings, what is that all about naim?.That is not how a high end product performs. None of my other high end products (mentioned below) distort so i just find this unacceptable at this price. B&w have hit the nail on the head with this product. Lets be real, you can not possibly expect a small box with small drivers and amp do deliver true hifi, it is impossible regardless of dsp or algorithm alchemy, that is where naim failed.

  • Very good for a one-box system, but not comparable with separates at the same price

Amazing sound, amazing looks, amazing connectivity.

Super wireless sound, excellent range.

Very good for a one-box system, but not comparable with separates at the same price. B&w are a long-established british manufacturer of loudspeakers, who over the last ten years or so have been branching out into “lifestyle” products aimed at the ipod generation. I’ve got several of these – the mm-1 computer loudspeakers are superb; the zeppelin mini (now sadly unavailable) is the best portable ipod speaker i’ve heard, and the p7 headphones are a delight. So i was very keen to hear what the zeppelin – the flagship “lifestyle” product – was like, and i had high expectations. First impressions are good – this is an extremely weighty piece of kit, beautifully finished and packaged in the sort of fashion that apple are so good at. It can be used with bluetooth, apple airplay, spotify connect or with an old-fashioned 3. 5mm analogue minijack connector (although a 3. 5mm cable is not included, which feels slightly mean on such an expensive product). Setting it up is slightly less than intuitive – there is an iphone app which walks you through the process for setting up the wifi connection required for airplay and spotify, but you’ll need to consult the instructions for getting bluetooth up and running. Nothing too difficult, but not completely intuitive.

Excellent sound system with a very contemporary design. Excellent sound system with a very contemporary design. I had not heard of the brand before but due to the price point i was expecting it to sound amazing. I easily linked it to our network and my phone and listened to my playlist. The music sounds really good.

Exceptional sound and design. Having owned the smallest wireless speaker of the b&w range, the a5, and been quite impressed by the sound produced, i decided to walk away with the last zeppelin wireless in my local john lewis which was on clearance at £329. I was looking for a speaker to fill my living room, which joins via open plan onto the kitchen – a large space and something the a5 could not manage even at full tilt. Setup:it would be incredibly difficult not to mentions its design. Its iconic, sweeping and smooth contours give it a stunningly modern and minimalist aesthetic. Its heavy and reassuringly solid – it’s always eye catching and always a source of compliments from friends and family. Setup with the mac app took no more than 10 minutes, and the inclusion of bluetooth is a welcome addition after reading about the previous generations bias towards just airplay – making it friendly to those who don’t use apple devices. 5mm aux on the back and an ethernet port should your wifi be ropey. There is no remote, which is disappointing and seems an oversight.

Beautiful rich sound and looks like it floated in from. Beautiful rich sound and looks like it floated in from the future.

If you have the money, then buy it. I have owned this speaker for over 6 months now, and i still do not regret buying this speaker. Even after all these months, i still have a smile when i listen to music on this speaker. This speaker is impressive from the moment it came out of the box and is always the talking point when i have guests over. As other reviewer mentioned, it will take time to ‘break-in’ the speakers’ drivers, but the results are worth it. I was not disappointed on the first day i got the speaker and did not think the speaker could sound any better. After months of listening to the speaker, i have unmistakably noticed a different and more balanced sound from the speaker. The speaker works well with bluetooth connectivity, aux input, spotify connect and apple airplay. But if you are planning on buying this speaker, do yourself a favour and get spotify premium. I was previously subscribed to apple music and used apple airplay to stream my music to my speakers.

    1. High quality build and sound quality from a single box wireless speaker, just be a little careful about room placement. The zeppelin arrives in a large box and is quite a bit heavier than i expected, but heavy in a re-assuring sense. It just feels like a quality item. Once out of the box, i placed it centrally in the room, joined it to my wi-fi via the downloadable app and it appeared as available in itunes on my pc and my phone/ipad. All i had to do was select it and start streaming music. The sound initially was clear and detailed, especially on voices but lacked a little integration across the frequency ranges. There was plenty of bass but it somehow sounded a little separate from everything else. One thing i have learnt from various b&w headphones is that they take some time to run in, or loosen up from new. My wife had a friend over to visit so i cued up a 1970’s playlist and left it playing as background music for them for several hours. A good sign was that her friend stayed longer than intended as they reminisced over the music that was playing.

  3. Expensive & limited connectivity. The zeppelin comes nicely presented in the box and the model i was sent review came with 3 (iec c7) power cables to be used in different regions. A bit disappointing that the speaker does not come with a auxiliary input cable. Inputson the back of the speaker there is a network port and auxiliary in using a 3. 5 stereo input cable which is not included. In addition, there is a service port which i have not needed and is probably for maintenance only. There is also a power button and tiny reset button on the back. From a build point of view the speaker is well built and is looks very good. I love the aesthetics and the design in this product. This feels like a well-built product.

    1. A good setup for a lot of people; sensitive to source material. This is a chunky stereo speaker with connectivity for wi-fi (airplay and itunes), bluetooth 4. 1 / aptx, auxiliary input and, an rj45 input for setting up (if necessary). Its 660mm long x 188mm high x 183 mm deep, weighs 6. 5kg and comes in black and white. Construction is the standard that you would expect for the price. A bracket is available separately for wall mounting. Volume control is via the remote source or the touch control on the rear of the zeppelin; there isn’t a remote control for the zeppelin. A control app can be downloaded from the b&w site, including a version for windows. Setup was troublesome as my netgear r8000 router wouldn’t connect with the zeppelin setup page.
