Circle with Disney Parental Controls and Filters – Really impressed

Brilliant – makes it easy to control and monitor kids internet use. Sometimes causes problems with our complicated router setup but generally very easy.

This is certainly a bit of a faff to set up but once done it is easy enough to use. It certainly makes it easier to keep control over who is using what and what time they need to stop. This would be especially useful for those with older kids – particularly teenagers – who may be inclined to use their smart devices well into the early hours if left to themselves. I know some people who have a device box that the kids have to put their phones, tablets etc into at bedtime but that doesn’t stop access through computers or consoles in bedrooms that aren’t so easy to remove. With circle you are covered for this and other eventualities (e. The battery makes sure that the kids can’t unplug to circumvent it as they can be devious like that)whilst not perfect (it is a faff to set up), it certainly gives you peace of mind that the kids can’t access anything you don’t want them to and that they will have their internet access cut off at a certain time to ensure a good night’s sleep.

Effective internet policeman. I was sent this device for testing and impartial review. This small cube, which disney calls ‘circle’, takes up a small footprint and weighs in at just over 1lb. Set-up is straightforward and it pairs wirelessly with your home wi-fi to let you filter or place time limits on the usage of connected devices. It is well made, well tested and unobtrusive. It is not cheap, but it is designed to give parents peace of mind if they have a young family who make regular use of a range of devices, whether wired or wireless, by letting them impose limits as to their use. Here are the specifications for the Circle with Disney Parental Controls and Filters:

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • Filter Content: Set individual filter levels by age (Pre-K, Kid, Teen, and Adult) for each member of your family.
  • Set Time Limits: Create daily time limits on apps and popular sites like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube.
  • Discover Insights: See where your kids spend the most time online by app and category.
  • Pause the Internet: Pause the Internet for a single family member or the whole family with a single tap.
  • Manage Every Device: Circle recognizes and manages every device on your home Wi-Fi.

Great control kids can work out how to get round it. Very granular would recommend.

What circle does it does very well (and very sneakily) but it’s worth understanding its limitations before you decide to buy one for the family’s home network. The most obvious drawback is that it does nothing to control or monitor any internet connection made via a mobile network on a smartphone or similar device (or via a hotspot created by a smartphone) and so if your main issue is with your kid’s smartphone usage this device only monitors their internet usage when they’re on wi-fi and not mobile data. There is an additional subscription service you can add called circle go which allows you to monitor mobile network data too but there’s a monthly charge for that. Older and more enterprising kids, especially teens, will probably find ways around circle’s limitations (logging onto local free wi-fi services for example) but for younger kids it’s a very comprehensive way to impose some limits on their internet usage. It’s worth also mentioning this device only controls the wi-fi data connection and not the device itself – so your kids could still stay up all night playing (non-internet-connected) games. It’s a simple looking device with no obvious top or bottom and generally needs to be situated close-ish to your wi-fi router. There are some routers it won’t work with, so it’s worth checking compatibility with the list on the ‘meetcircle’ website first. It uses a sneaky hack to gain access to your home wi-fi network by using arp spoofing to insert itself between your devices and the internet beyond – once it’s up and running every internet connection made from your devices is running through the circle device (unless you specify otherwise) and can be intercepted, stopped and/or logged. Setup is relatively painless, you first install the circle app onto your ios or android smartphone, pair your smartphone with the circle service (so they can send messages) and then it walks you through the process.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Very cool piece of kit to assist with management of family internet usage. Extremely EASY to setup & use.
  • Get your home Internet devices under control
  • Limited limitations

Nearly gave up but it works great with a couple of tweeks. I have after something like this for sometime – ie something i can use to control my kids internet use. Yes you can do it on your router but this has a relativly simple interface. To be honest i nearly gave up on this and it was only because i was reviewing it that i persisted. For starters i could not find anything in the limited quick start guide that said where to get the app to control it so i headed over to the ios app store and found what i thought was the correct app which is my circle – this is in fact incorrect despite it being done by the same maufacturer and is simple called circle which is a little hard to find as a number of other apps come up before it. Also remember that you need to log into circle on your phone before it will communicate with the app. You then tell it which router to connect to and add the password. Okay so fairly simple except you have to log in and out of both circle and your router a number of times on wifi (the app now expalins when to do this). It was at this point that i nearly gave up as it then proceeded to find every device connected to the router.

This is a fantastic new home networking device that can set limits on your family’s online habits using methods typically associated with malicious hackers. Yes a lot of people can do this already via their router or if your with bt you can do it via the hub manager but this circle with disney device offers so much more. Circle with disney works simply, it hooks up to your wi-fi router and then monitors the activity of every device connected to your home network. Monitoring is via the control panel which is where all the filtering is carried out … using an ios app or an android app called circle home. Here you can set individual profile settings and filter apps by name, category, or device platform. You can also set bedtimes and waking up times for devices or people which helps to prevent late night chats or gaming sessions. There’s also the extreme ability of manually cutting off internet access for a certain device, person, or even the entire household. Circle offers pre-set filters to block access to certain parts of the web based on a child’s age. It can also block ads for specific family members, which could be a great benefit for protecting the easily impressionable from marketing targeted towards them.

Was fed up constantly updating various parental controls on numerous devices, and always feeling one step behind my technology savvy son. I love the ease of having one profile for each child attached to multiple devices, and how easy it is to switch devices between children and parents. Plus how easy it is to pause their internet usage or set time limits and restrict certain apps, plus filter out inappropriate content. Also love you can see their internet history too. Highly recommended disney circle. Note if your child has a smartphone there is disney go (monthly fee) which means their profile stays with them whichever friend’s house they visit.

This i am sure works great, however there a massive router problems, this will not work with a vast amount of routers, i have a ac2600 nighthawk x4s r7800 which has connection issues, some dual-band routers employ a chipset that makes working with circle more complicated. On these types of routers circle will not manage devices that are connected to the router differently than circle is. For example, if circle is connected wirelessly, it will only manage devices connected wirelessly to the router on the 2. 4ghz band, and all devices connected over the 5ghz band or ethernet must be assigned as ‘unmanaged devices’ in circle. If circle is connected to the router via ethernet cable, circle can only manage devices wired directly to the router, and all devices connecting wirelessly will encounter problems unless they are ‘unmanaged. . I’m disappointed that i would need to swap routers to get this working, i’m not prepared to spend another £150. This is a real shame, i do think manufacturers need to sort out issues before launching products on to market. I know you can’t always get it right but there are to many issues with this device. I hate giving poor scores on a review when i haven’t managed to actually test the product, its my issue with the router not the circle’s, but more info about what it won’t work with would save a lot of frustrations3 stars as i say its not tested so unfair to give one star.

I have been looking for a good parental internet management solution for years and circle does it very well indeed. 3-4 friends have now bought one on foot of my recommendation. This device makes managing exceptions (and there are always exceptions) very easy.

Superb addition to any family’s wifi home equipment. . This is an amazing piece of kit that would be invaluable to any parents who need to manage and monitor internet use for their family – individually. I know you can set parental controls via other things, but this circle gizmo and its accompanying app is so much more complete in its ability to give you effective comtrol and oversight – something that is vital these days with kids (and adults) becoming addicted to the small screen – and to help in the fight to keep them safe from predators. And with kids being introduced to computing almost straight out of the womb, parents (and grandparents) are often lagging behind in their skills, which makes it harder to keep an eye on things – but this circle gives the initiative back to the parents and makes keeping your kids safe so very much easier. I have set this up for when the grandkids visit and, although i had my son here as advisor, i found it quite easy and intuitive to set up and to understand how it all works. I am hugely impressed at its ability to be set up for each individual in the household separately, and separately for each and every device they have as well. It means i was able to set it up for all the grandkids to suit their age and need for oversight and boundaries and add any new things they acquire, and it is then all ready for when each or all of them come to see me. I can also use the information to liase with their parents if i become concerned. It makes bedtime so much easier to enforce and i feel much more at peace about them being off in their rooms using the internet without direct supervision.

Super fast and easy to set up, and works straight out of the box. It’s useful to be able to have numerous different settings e. For different ages of children. It’s trustworthy and reliable and doesn’t interfere with the speed or stability of the wifi connection. It’s also useful for imposing or self imposing an internet ban/blackout.

NETGEAR RBK43 Orbi Whole Home Wi-Fi Mesh System Up to 6000 sq ft Coverage : Outstanding WiFi Coverage Now

I love this it’s better than i thought a recommended buy.

Fixed my wifi woes in an instant. I have very fast internet from my isp but i had real issues with wifi performance. I tried power line adapters and wifi extenders but just could not get good speed when i left the room where my main router was located. I know this is quite expensive but it has created a step change in my home connectivity. I now have almost full speed wherever i go in my house with a great strong connection. It is worth the money and i’m very pleased with the solution. It is really easy to set up and has remained stable for many days now with no hiccups. Highly recommended and fixed all my home internet connectivity overnight.

NETGEAR RBK43 Orbi Whole Home Wi-Fi Mesh System Up to 6000 sq ft Coverage (AC2200 Tri-Band with Router and Satellite)

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • Single network name; one Wi-Fi name and seamless roaming for your whole home to enjoy
  • Your home covered; covers up to 6000 sq feet with high-performance AC2200 Wi-Fi and easily expands with an additional satellite
  • Maximum internet speeds; tri-band Wi-Fi helps deliver fast internet speeds even as more devices connect
  • Simple and secure; use the Orbi app or a web browser to create secure whole home Wi-Fi in minutes; with no accounts to set up
  • Compatible with Amazon Echo/Alexa – control your home network using voice commands

Provides excellent wifi around the house, the connection to my pc over wifi is still 50 mps.

A little sceptical as i have tried everything to get decent broadband in the two furthest rooms from the virgin superhub 2 (it has rubbish wifi) plugged the orbi in and now instead of a flakey 2mb/ sec i now get 113.

I know how very good wifi everywhere in my 3 story house. Easy to configure yet advanced enough for the tech savvy.

Replacing the abysmal talktalk super router, the orbi system allows all my wifi products to connect with ease. Coverage is good even though we have thick walls, streaming in two rooms simultaneously is no problem and both orbi units are really smart, i am able to hide all wiring and they were so easy to set up – i had one small problem and rang the helpline – a long wait but they were extremely helpful and had it sorted in minutes. Thoroughly recommend this system. I only have one criticism – the lack of any light on the face (the blue top light disappears when all is ok), i find myself connecting to wifi just to check the unit is still on.

I pre ordered this as soon as i saw it as i am regularly required to troubleshoot the horrible system of airport expresses and powerline adaptors that is the only way to get wifi round my large ish house which is full of ironstone. I hoped that this would be a proper solution and despite the expense (i got it at the preorder price of £315) i went for it as i still had slow spots. Basic setup was seamless, it updated itself, and off we went. My preferred location was too far for the satellite but i moved it to the next room and all was well. Its three storey house and speed is fantastic upwards – i’ve had to use a powerline for one bedroom sideways from the satellite as its a long and tall house – but height hardly seems to bother the speeds. I think £400 is a lot for this, but i probably spent that on the previous various bits of kit and this just. I’d buy a second satellite but i dont seem to be able to yet.

Outstanding wifi coverage now. As many of the reviews i read before making this purchase, we also used a mixture of wall plugs and extenders in the past. This has now simplified wifi for our 2 storey 250 year old house overnight to a single ssidi recommend you disable wifi on your current router first, run the orbi setup wizard & during the wizard process, give these devices the same ssid and password as your old wifi system and everything will work as before. You need to let it perform a firmware update and is a little temperamental at the beginning as the firmware updates and the 2 units restart and reconnect (press the sync button if needed) expect a 20 minute delay max, after that, it just works. This is an expensive item; however, i have no regrets.

Exceptional product well worth extra cost. Excellent wifi range recommend to replace any hub provided by suppliers like virgin or sky for improved speed and stronger signal.

Great solution for big houses. Solved my horrible internet connection problems with about 15 minutes of easy setup. Not having multiple network names to change to throughout your house it awesome. Visitors no longer look at me like i’m an idiot when they have to connect to three different networks depending on where in the house they are.

Fixed my wifi problems but not as well or as easily as i hoped when i paid £400. . Update:after some back and forth with customer service (who are very responsive and helpful by the way) some of the issues have been fixed. Particularly i refer to the lack of vlan tagging (mentioned below). This functionality was added in an update and i have now managed to get this working such that i am now using the orbi with my internet and internet over tv service successfully. I have retired my old router and am now just using the orbi. Hence point 2) below is now moot. There are still ease of use issues with this but the functionality is now there and its working in my case. Customer service have also promised to address point 4) below and so hopefully later versions of the software will be much easier to set up for those (almost everyone) who dont know what beamforming and mimo are or that they must have them switched on to get the best out of this product. Net result is that i am happier with this product than i was when i wrote this review but i am not changing the rating yet as the biggest issue point 4) is not yet fixed. For £400, none of these issues should have occurred and it should have been a snap to set up.

While the unit is expensive, i must say that i have tried other boosters and while they do work to some extent, they are nowhere as good as the orvibo. I found that setting up the unit was very very easy. Before using the orvibo i was getting an average download of 35 to 45 mbps i am now getting nothing less than 65 mbps. As i said an expensive unit but it definitely works for me. I would recommend this unit to anyone.

NETGEAR RBK50 Orbi Whole Home Wi-Fi Mesh System Up to 5000 sq ft of Wi-Fi Coverage : Fixed my WiFi Problems but not as well or as easily as I hoped when I paid £400.

The orbi has completely transformed the internet access in my house. I used to use the box provided by virgin but the internet speed was up and down, signal strength patchy, even in a relatively small flat, to the point where my multi-room speaker system kept cutting out. Since installing the orbi and chaining my virgin box to modem only mode (easy to do), i have had full speed internet access and a strong signal throughout the flat. I was surprised by how much difference it has made.

After years of putting up with weak wifi, or none at all, in parts of my house, using apple extreme with an express extender i finally decided to make a change. The orbi system arrived beautifully packaged and set itself up even more easily than the instructions implied – as i didn’t even need to log in to the netgear website since the orbi system did it automatically for me. Once it was set up i now have maximum strength signals everywhere in the house – and even in the garden, which i have never had before. It is a little bit more expensive than some competitive systems – but you get what you pay for.

Very expensive but it’s gotta be said netgear have really hit the mark with these. . They replaced my linksys ea8500 which had absolutely shocking 5ghz range, now literally every inch of my home has 5bar *excellent* signal strength. Will be using these for years to come. I also get my full 300mbps virgin media speed aswell.

I love this it’s better than i thought a recommended buy.

Simple, effective and a joy to set up. . Isn’t it wonderful when technology catches up. There i was trying to work out exactly how i was going to drill in and out of walls in my old house to set up wifi access points when my research led me to this alternative solution. It arrives neatly packaged with simple instructions. First i accessed my current router – a sky hub – and switched off the 5 ghz wifi, but out of curiosity left the 2. I then connected the first orbi – a large but not unattractive thing – to the sky modem and powered it up. I then placed one of the satellites in my office and the other upstairs and powered them up. I opened my iphone, and downloaded the netgear orbi app. The instructions are so simple, connect to the new wifi – tick – reboot the sky modem and wait for the orbi to connect to the internet – tick.

The orbi router satellite mix was a perfect solution. Happily the telephone support was up to. Orbi conquered the wifi distribution issues that others failed to address. I tried extenders and repeaters but nothing came near to my delivered speed unless you practically sat on top of the wifi device in question. We live in a 2500 sqft house build around a lot of structural steel. The orbi router satellite mix was a perfect solution. Happily the telephone support was up to the mark and solved some initial set up issues. With a fttp speed of i00 mps, i get 100 down and 75mps upload wifi speed throughout most of the 2 story house.

Completely fixed persistent problem with wi-fi coverage.

I now have seamless wifi throughout the. Have been cursed with awful wireless problems since moving into new house (with solid brick walls), virgin superhub with powerline adapters have been awful. I was highly sceptical before the orbi arrived and it was only a matter of time before i was going to return it. But it has been nothing short of a revelation. I now have seamless wifi throughout the house, tv works perfectly, no more buffering, new devices work without upsetting the virgin hub. I’m well impressednb after update, orbi stopped working – i had to contact netgear through live chat to sort this out. Beware its not as user friendly as one might hope. I would probably reduce to 4 stars but it just works so well (when it does).

NETGEAR RBK40 Orbi Whole Home Wi-Fi Mesh System Up to 4000 sq ft of Wi-Fi Coverage : Superb WiFi At last!

Amazon prime did not disappoint. I’m not a techy so don’t get in. Bought this to replace an asus router where the ethernet ports had failed, it was a need it and need it now, amazon prime did not disappoint. I’m not a techy so don’t get in to the details i just want something that works and that is what i got it. The range of the wifi is brilliant, does more than what i need really. The link between the router and the satellite is better than i expected, i think i’ve got quite a large house and the router is in the top right at the front, the satellite is in the bottom left at the back, no problems with the internal connection. I’ve been using for over two weeks now and have not had any of the issues that other reviewers seem to have been experiencing so at the moment all good.

All my wifi problems gone gone gone. . Not the cheapest solution but you get what you pay for, netgear hardware and software quality. A perfect home wifi solution easy setup facilitated by the structure of the software and clear written instructions plus a series of clear video setup instructions (on u tube). I have a traditional suburban brick built 3 bedroom house and the orbi signal reaches every corner of the house and garden which after years of struggling with a combination of wifi, powerline and hard wired never gave me the coverage i needed which h orbi doesin addition to the basic setup netgear offers through its genie software (on all the usual platforms netgear offers the more advanced user the facilityto make all the advanced settings if they so require as well as via a web browser interface. I am a computer and telecommunications engineer with 60 years experience and i think that i can recognise quality hardware and software when i see it as in the netgear orbi product.

Had been getting pretty much terrible wifi speed and coverage (eventually added an extender) from sky broadband. Took a chance on the netgear orbi and haven’t looked back since. Setup takes 15 mins and can be done via the app. Speeds and coverage have increased dramatically since. Over wifi was previously getting 2mbps download speeds and now getting about 11-12bmbps (if you’re on virgin you’ll likely get far more). Youtube streams are pretty fast now. People have discussed dropping connections. This is an issue with netgears beamforming features (which are now disabled out of the box to get around this issue). Surprised hasn’t been fixed yet as was acknowledged last year.

Probably the best router for coverage on the market. Having moved into a house and had bt infinity installed we were using their very good home hub 5. This gave great coverage, but didn’t have the option of a guest network. So we swapped to our previous router, which gave us a guest network but not great coverage. We were sceptical about buying these due to the price, but i must say that they are really very good. Our home is around 2,200 sq ft and we now get 3 out of 3 bars of wifi coverage everywhere in the home including the garage, front garden and we can easily stream youtube in hd at the bottom of the garden. This wouldn’t have been possible without this product. It also has the guest wifi functionality that we needed. An expensive bit of kit, but i am pleased we have it as we now have excellent and fast coverage throughout our home and garden.

Easy to setup and very reliable so far. Easy to setup and very reliable so far. I really like 3rd dedicated backhaul band purely for communications between the router and the satellite. The mobile app can be a bit better but not a big issue. Also, additional satellites are not easily available at least in uk and hoping them to be competitively priced. I totally recommend this for a very reliable and strong wifi without any blackspots.

So after problems mainly with sky q and coverage in general i have been looking at whole home wifi options. After troweling through many reviews i ordered the orbi yesterday, within an hour of arrival today i have very solid wifi over a large detached 7 bed house, sonos is working fine, sky q is working fine and so far no problems with any devices 🙂 i did have to reboot sky and a couple of other devices even though i retained my old ssid and password (orbi is configurable) but as soon as they started voila no problems. I’m using my exisiting billion 7800 dxl router connected to fibre and have set the orbi system to work in purely ‘ap’ mode not as a router. Overall very impressed so far and hope it continues as its still day 1.

Very well thought of system but i need a three units system to cover my flat. . I bought this 2 unit package after reading lots of thorough reviews and clearly the orbi came out first in most of them. I was extremely pleased with the design and the set-up, all well though of but i was disappointed with the performances. I leave in an 1500sq/ft three floors maisonette and i couldn’t get a 5ghz connection on the floor left without a satellite. And when i tested it with an iphone app, it showed big differences in throughput too. So for a 3 floors flat, i would need a 2nd satellite, hence a device on each floor. Which then in turn would make the orbi the most expensive system to buy. And not only that but the 3 units package (called rbk53 on netgear website) is not even available in the uk unfortunately. So i have returned the units and i guess i will try their competitor the linksys velop, see if it works better. To sum it up, the main flow of this non-mesh system is that your router must be in the centre of the house and that consequently one satellite might not be enough. Also if you need to connect an appletv with an ethernet cable, then you need a satellite near enough. And that would leave a signal too weak in the room left without a unit.

Great coverage but doesn’t support bt tv. Easy to setup and great wifi coverage. I’ve never been able to cover the whole house with a single router and finally the two units give great speeds everywhere. However, the orbi firmware currently will not support bt tv/youview. Until they fix this i’ve had to set the orbi to access point mode and connect it up to the bt homehub.

NETGEAR RBK30 Orbi Whole Home Wi-Fi Mesh System Up to 3500 sq ft of Wi-Fi Coverage : Great coverage but doesn’t support BT TV

A little sceptical as i have tried everything to get decent broadband in the two furthest rooms from the virgin superhub 2 (it has rubbish wifi) plugged the orbi in and now instead of a flakey 2mb/ sec i now get 113.

NETGEAR RBK30 Orbi Whole Home Wi-Fi Mesh System Up to 3500 sq ft of Wi-Fi Coverage, Works with Amazon Alexa (AC2200 Tri-Band Home Network with Router and Wall Plug Satellite)

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • Fast whole home Wi-Fi system – covers up to 3500 sq feet with high performance Wi-Fi; kit includes Wi-Fi router and wall plug satellite
  • Wall plug form factor for easy placement; just plug the satellite into any electrical socket to extend Wi-Fi coverage
  • Tri-Band technology – unlike other Wi-Fi sets that lose speed as you add devices, Orbi routers maintain data flow for your connected devices using a dedicated backhaul connection
  • Quick and easy setup – no need to create new accounts; just download the Orbi app, plug in your system and follow the instructions on your PC, Mac or mobile device to get your house on the net
  • Compatible with Amazon Echo/Alexa – control your home network using voice commands

NETGEAR RBK30 Orbi Whole Home Wi-Fi Mesh System Up to 3500 sq ft of Wi-Fi Coverage, Works with Amazon Alexa (AC2200 Tri-Band Home Network with Router and Wall Plug Satellite) : I love this it’s better than i thought a recommended buy.

I know how very good wifi everywhere in my 3 story house. Easy to configure yet advanced enough for the tech savvy.

Rbk 50 – 5,000 square feet is only 4,000 sq feet. The description says that the rbk50 twin pack covers 5,000 sq feet, but the actual box clearly says 4,000 sq feet, so it has 20% less coverage than stated here. This obviously has an impact if you’re looking to cover a large area and it is shocking that amazon / netgear have allowed this to mislead consumers buying the units. The unit works well enough and is easy to set up, but the range on it is the same as my apple airport station, so i’m left with the option of having to spend another £190 to buy another satellite unit.

Completely fixed persistent problem with wi-fi coverage.

Love my orbi wi-fi system. . It’s stabilised my whole home network after years of trying different routers/modems/extenders. Bit pricey but worth every penny to me on my years of wasted time troubleshooting.

NETGEAR RBK53 Orbi Whole Home Wi-Fi Mesh System Up to 7500 sq ft Coverage : Great device easy to set up and has improved the wifi fi speeds in our house no end.

Like many reviewers, i live in a 3 story brick house, 1870s, and always had troubles with my wifi. The orbi replaced a nighthawk with an extender, giving me 5 ssid to choose between. Recently was getting dropages at least 1 or 2 per hour. So reserched a bit, saw the terrific comments on the orbi and got it. A bit pricey but it works really well, am v impressed. Had a bit of trouble linking the satellite, but i am pretty sure it was my fault for not following the instructions correctly. Anyway, i just restarted, took less then 30 minutes. Another 30 minutes changing the wifi settings on everything in the house. Like others, i can’t resist doing a network speed test just to see the results – in one part of the house it went up 5x.

NETGEAR RBK53 Orbi Whole Home Wi-Fi Mesh System Up to 7500 sq ft Coverage (AC3000 Tri-Band with Router and 2 Satellites) : Excellent kit – shame about the plug/transformer. Selected to cope with old long house and very thick walls. Relatively easy to set up out of the box and get running. Mobile app a little limited. Ended up purchasing additional satellite to provide satisfactory coverage, including garden. Would recommend for challenging wifi areas. I have not given 5 stars solely because of the ridiculous plug arrangement whereby the transformer is part of the three pin plug, resulting in a large and unwieldy unit projecting from the wall and thus making it impossible to locate easily behind furniture. Given the design aesthetic behind the rest of the system (coloured lights, shape etc) this is simply inexplicable. Did briefly consider dissembling plug and creating bespoke arrangement, but suspect warranty would suffer.

Worked straight out the box. I have 5 teenage kids in the house, each with some combination of a console/laptop/phone/tablet, also a printer, two cameras, several tvs and my own phone/tablet etc. On average 30 devices are connected to the router, so i was very dubious about upgrading my asus 68u to a mesh system but my ears couldn’t take the complaining about dead spots and drop outs. I have a fair it knowledge, but networking is not my specialality. After reading about several mesh setups i plumped for the netgear as it seemed to allow more (albeit limited) control over settings on the router and decent throughput and signal strength. Setup needed to be quick – teenager internet withdrawal symptoms are painful. I took everything out of the box, turned off my virgin router, connected the orbi to it, switched everything back on together and prayed. One minute later i had internet on the orbi, both orbis were talking to each other and there was peace in the house. It worked, everything connected happily to the network and throughput seems impressive and consistant. The control over the orbis’ though the web panel though was basic to say the least (v1. Something) so, having seen v2. 0 was out there i applied the upgrade to the orbi, again very simple and wow they have made some impressive changes.

I know how very good wifi everywhere in my 3 story house. Easy to configure yet advanced enough for the tech savvy.
