Arcam MusicBoost – combined DAC – Yes it can fit the iphone SE

Feels great in the hand and doesn’t add too much bulk to the iphone 6. Music noticeably enhanced, especially the bass which sounds rich and deep, whilst vocals come over as crisp and clear. To have the unit acting as a charger also is a real bonus. My only criticism is that it isn’t easy to remove the phone as the fit is so good.

Yes it can fit the iphone se. I bought this as dac for running my iphone se into my hifi. They said it wouldn’t fit – and it didn’t at first as the lightning plug wouldn’t insert far enough into the se to register as inserted. It’s for the iphone 6 which has a rounded case, the flat bottom of the se wouldn’t go to the bottom of the case. So i opened the unit up and modified the cradle by removing the curved part of the bottom of the case and re-assembled it. It works finethe increase in sound quality was immediate, obvious and substantial. An external iphone dac for £39 – stunning.

Great sound and no compatibility problems. Great sound and no compatibility problems, very useful battery pack. Far superior dynamics when plugged into headphones or hifi. Extra weight makes the phone more vulnerable and does not offer any protection, smashed my phone within a week so be careful. Here are the specifications for the Arcam MusicBoost – combined DAC:

  • Recharge your iPhone with its internal rechargeable battery as it powers the amplifier and the DAC
  • Built-in amplifier to increase the audio output along with DAC
  • Plays all streaming apps from iTunes, Apple Music, YouTube, Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz
  • Micro-USB on the bottom of MusicBoost to charge the internal battery
  • Power to drive the most demanding headphones at low or high impedance

This is a great product, music sounds much better with the dac. This is a great product, music sounds much better with the dac. You have to use some good headphones in order to feel the difference, i have tried the product with a pair of sennheiser ie80 and a pair of klipsch x11ipros:music is greatly improved with this device, music really comes to life, reproduction it’s much more detailed, highs, bass, sub bass and especially mid range has a great improvement. It can charge your phone fully and still has some juice leftgreat touch and feel. Good materialseasy to usecons:the product is amazing and well worth the price but:the cover doesn’t protect the top front part of the phone. Sometimes doesn’t recognise the headphones if it’s not with the music app open.

What a shame, this product had everything i was looking for- great improvement in sound quality, no added box with wires whilst travelling, attractive looks to enhance the iphone – all let down by the most obvious error in design. The hard, protective case only covers half the phone. Therefore giving only 50% protection if dropped, which just isn’t good enough. If the design changed to cover the whole phone if buy it immediately.

I love it, shame about the inline controls on my headphone not working with it. Exceptional sound quality, you can still hear the nuances without it but you have to listen for them whereas with it they are presented to you, only reason for 4 stars is because my inline controls don’t work with it.

Almost a great product but falls short. . First the good as it is quite short. Audio quality is definitely better through the dac. The volume is no louder on my shure earbuds, beyer dynamic portable on ear or my sennheiser hd600s. However you can actually put it on full volume without it distorting or clipping much at all, certainly an improvement, it doesn’t sound like it is running out of steam any more, but if you normally listen with the avls turned off, do not expect any more volume. The case is a real struggle to get it off as there is no flex in it, i guess the idea is not to have to take it off, but you may well want to when you discover that the charging leds which are as bright as hids on a range rover in a dark room by your bedside when charging (surely the most common place and time to charge an iphone?) – even placed face down if you make the mistake of lifting your phone for a time check in the early hours it is like someone switching on a coastguard helicopter searchlight. Using a standard iphone charger (1amp) the cable charges the dacs battery when you plug the micro usb cable in not the iphone. If you turn the dac on so that its battery charges the iphone then the standard iphone charger doesn’t seem to give enough power to successfully charge the dac overnight. I left it charging for 8 hours while it was charging the iphone, the result was between half and three quarter charge on the dac (which was full when i turned it on) and full power on the iphone. With no charging cable and the dac not in use, or charging the phone, the iphone does appear to lose charge faster than with it not connected, not massively, but noticeably.

Sena ultraslim case for 6 plus fits. I think this thing is great. Like others that have commented, to have a dac/amp without extra wires is a revelation. I normally keep my iphone 6 in a sena ultraslim leather case when out and about and have found the same case for the 6 plus fits the phone and added musicboost perfectly and it adds almost no bulk at all.Just thought you might like to know.

Brilliant – enjoy your music collection again. Brilliant – enjoy your music collection again. Pair with good quality headphones and they just make the music come alive.

Warning: does not fit iphone 6s. Despite the product title, this doesn’t fit the iphone 6s (confirmed by arcam), which is fractions of a millimetre bigger. Therefore, i’m stuck with a case that i cannot remove, it is stuck fast. My only hope is to hack it in two with a saw. Sounds fantastic, but do not purchase for a 6s. Also, another point off as it’s incompatible with inline iphone controls that feature on many headphones.

Optoma NuForce uDAC-3 USB Digital Audio Converter – – Impressive, Most Impressive. But At A Cost.

Yes i can hear the difference. Yes i can hear the difference.

Impressive, most impressive. If you’re in the market for a dac then i can highly recommend the udac-3, it comes at a price but delivers fantastic sound quality. The unit itself is relatively small but well made, it connects to a mac or pc via the included usb cable and has several outputs that should cater for most people. When i first received the unit i had no idea what to do with it, the instructions are seemingly poor and assume that you know what you’re doing. I connected to a mac and anything such as speakers, headphones, microphones, etc. Can be dealt with in system preferences under the sound section. It’s simply a case of selecting the udac-3 as the output and sound should then be played through it rather than the built in speakers. I generally use a set of in-ear headphones and haven’t generally had any complaints about sound, my daily ones cost around the £80 mark so are pretty good anyway. Plugging them into the udac-3 drastically improves the sound, i was expecting there to be a slight increase in the sound quality but didn’t expect the boost that it gave me.

A cracking udac digital audio converter-fabulous sound and volume enhancement. This optoma nuforce udac-3 is the business if you want to enhance your listening experience with headphonesfor a computer with digital music, games, or by linking it up with your speaker to a hi fi system. Firstly though, the instructions with the product are sparse. Not that its difficult to work out, by utilising your settings,(my computer is a mac,) and your a ready to go. I have a wide taste in music from rock to classical, and there is no doubtthat there is a greater clarity with the sound and a significant boost to the volume. It is the same process if you wish to build up your sound experience with games. For me this was a standout feature. Using headphonesthe result was a definite level above the normal experience. The other option is to link it, to your speakers, on your hi-fi system. Again, this was achieved successfully without fuss. Fantastic sound quality, but build quality not up to the same standard. For sound quality it’s brilliant, i plugged my sennheiser momentum’s in and now i have a new appreciation for how good they are. This little box of wonders is fantastic, it’s small and easily tucks away. I’ve had it for just over 4 weeks now and i plugged the usb micro cable into the back of it and the port popped through into the box and is now rattling around inside making it unusable and broken. The build quality needs to be stepped up and i’ll be asking for a refund and maybe trying it again because the sound that it made was fantastic.

  • excellent sound quality

A must if you listen to digital music with headphones. . This is a superb piece of equipment being small, easy to use and fantastically enjoyable to listen to. I have used it almost daily with my mac and a lossless streaming service and paired with b&o h6 it makes me smile every time i use it. In direct comparison with other, much more expensive, headphone amp/dac combinations it also holds its head up high and easily performs at a level above it’s price point.

Very high quality dac/amp, excellent sound quality, great build quality, i also own a very expensive headphone amp i’ve had for years and it’s on the same level as that, great value, will improve the sound hugely if you have a crappy sound card, no brainer just pick it up, i’m using it every day, very sweet.

Talented little ‘black box;. This dac is tiny and usb powered, very well made and sounds very crisp. Firstly, as others have suggested, the instructions are not the best but this little dac is easy enough to figure out, simply plug it into your laptops usb socket and windows should do the rest, you may have to select the dac from the volume task bar but that should be it. Other input options are co-ax digital input (commonly found on tv’s/blu-ray players) and a standard analog stereo rca input)this little dac will bring your laptop to life in a way you never expected, i plugged in my v-moda m100s and listened to dark side of the moon which was reproduced beautifully, i’m used to hearing my music on high quality equipment but i’m certain i heard sounds on this cd i have not heard before, the sound is very crisp and clear with not a hint of back ground hiss or noise. This dac maybe too clean for some people. I’m no stranger to using a dac/headphone amp, i’ve been using a fiio e17 alpen for a few years now and always loved it, this optoma dac has one downfall, it will not work with my phone whereas the fiio will, i’ve put this down to the fact that the fiio has it’s own battery whilst the optoma does not. The optoma lacks a little oomph compared to the fiio, but that isn’t for everyone and i’ll admit i’m a volume and bass freak. The case of this dac is aluminum and feels solidly built, it should last a good few years. A great little dac that will open your eyes to what you have missed musically in the past,.

Significantly more refined than the built-in soundcard with the right hardware. This is really a piece of kit for the audiophiles amongst us, for mere casual listeners such as myself it simply adds a convienient way to improve the sound output from usb sourcs (such as my laptop or mobile phone) which are otherwise under powered. However, it does not appear that this is the target audience for this kit, therefore, passing it to a true audiophile, his report is thus:’couldn’t get it to play ball on my main win-10 pc, although that’s probably because it’s loaded with a variety of audio drivers etc. Which i’m loathe to disrupt. Plug & played nicely on my basic lenovo () win-10 laptop, although knickers got twisted when plugging in / unplugging to compare with internal audio h/wusing a challenging 24/96 gwyneth herbert track and the notoriously difficult sennheiser hd600 ‘phones showed the sound to be significantly more refined than the built-in soundcard, and quite pleasant. Not sure deep bass was cleanly controlled, but a difficult call. If i was into music but had only basic pc hardware, then i’d go for 24/96 digital soundfiles in which case something like this is a no-brainer – the relatively expensive 24/96 files are better than cd if you’ve got the delivery hardware so maybe £100 isn’t too much an investment. But for me, it is just a decent pc headphone amp to deliver 24/96 sound, much better than built-in but not up to dedicated non-pc sacd hardware. And a true audiophile will even turn off cd player displays to reduce noise, so certainly wouldn’t appreciate anything coming from a noisy pcso an interesting audience. Wanting studio-quality sound with pc convenience.

Brilliant sound quality from this tiny convenient usb device – highly recommended. I already own a fiio e10k headphone amplifier and dac and have always been really happy with the sound quality it delivers, so i wasn’t sure what to expect from the slightly more expensive nuforce udac-3. More cynical music lovers might wonder how much difference there can be between such digital devices, but i tried to test the udac-3 with a completely open mind using my much loved creative aurvana live. Headphones and i’m really glad i did – it’s fantastic. After using it for just a few days, i decided i actually preferred it to my fiio and now i use it all the time at home. The fiio (which is still a really good dac) now gets used at work insteadthe device itself is very simple and clean. The black outer casing is actually metal rather than plastic and feels solid to the touch. It’s still compact enough to easily slip in your pocket if you want to use it on the move or carry it with your laptop. There’s a solid rotary volume knob on the front, next to a subtle power led and the 3. 5mm headphone output socket.

For audiophiles to plug & enjoy right out of the box. A very good little dac serving as headphone amplifiers on the job. It is solidly built of aluminum and works flawlessly. I bought it because i experienced bass in my headphones that was so thin and tinny, especially from my pc. Using this, there is more pressure in the base and the sound is so much clearer and full. I haven’t bought anything like this before, but the sound quality seems lossless, rich and gorgeous. The unit itself seems very well made, and in comparison to other devices in this genre, it’s well priced. I would possibly say it is an entry to mid level device, and perfect for audiophiles with a decent pair of headphones.

OPPO HA-2SE Headphone Amplifier : Good, not perfect, well worth the price.

Wonderful sound improvement with excellent service.

Simply beautiful in both looks and performance.

  • Can be efficiently charged in 30 minutes
  • Genuine leather casing
  • ESS Sabre32 Reference ES9028-Q2M DAC chip
  • Can be used with sensitive and power hungry headphones
  • Engineered to enhance music playback

Variable results depending on your headphone impedence or sensitivity. I own many headphone amplifiers/dac and this is one with the lowest powered one: possibly only the audioquest dragonfly black (not the red) has less. I have noticed that the most enthusiastic reviews come from reviewers using low impedance, high sensitivity headphones like b&w p7 or oppo pm3: i got to agree: used with those is a great device to have, perhaps a bit overpriced. But swith to something like hd650/600/700, beyer t90/dt990, hifiman 400i and it collapses. Compared with a chord mojo or even when with much cheaper options as denon da10 or creative e5 you can hear what you are missing. The bass boost button is a nice feature that those lack (but the e5 allows a much stronger customisation with a single button, to be fair). Form factor is also better than the others save the mojo, in my opinion. In short i returned because for me it was not nearly flexible enough.

Sounds amazing using this amp on my fiio 5 2nd gen dap. Glad i bought it, fantastic piece of equipment.

Good, not perfect, well worth the price. . This is a well designed and well built product. The sound quality is extremely good and it overcomes the problem of using headphones or earphones that are either electrically or plug incompatible with an iphone or ipod. There is bad news though – the only ipod that is compatible with the usb interface is the ipod touch. The only way to use a classic ipod with this amplifier is via the analogue interface, hence there is no improvement in sound quality. This information isn’t present in the advertising on amazon. It can be found in the technical specs on the oppo website and in the manual. I would be good if this information featured prominently in the product description. I can’t use it to improve sound from either of my ipods. It does, however, work perfectly with my iphone.

Oppo HA-2SE Headphone Amplifier : Fantastic vibrant sound, simple to use and setup. Takes the sound from iphone and brings it to life, outstanding.

5 starts if not for the cost. On a samsung s7 vs the normal sound the sound is full, deep and punchy with crisp clear highs. The power lasts long however i haven’t been able to charge my phone with it at all. This is the first amp i’ve tested that has meaningful results, enough to warrant lugging this thing around (like having a 2nd bulkier phone in your pocket) and forking out just under £300.

I used to own a fiio e12 mont blanc. It wasn’t bad, but to my ears it just gave you extra volume and didn’t really improve the sound quality. Now i own the oppo and the quality is outstanding. I use flac on an astell&kern jr with b&w p7 headphones and to me it sounds superb. I don’t claim to be an audiophile but the sound is so clear and detailed. Bass is just right, nice and controlled. The highs are not too bright, and the mids are not lost somewhere between the two but stand on their own. The build quality is also excellent as was the prompt service from peter tyson.

Simply beautiful in both looks and performance.

PRO-JECT Project DAC Box E Digital to Analogue Converter – five star bargain

Chose this because my new samsung tv does not have analogue outputs. With this i can use the optical output. Sure there are cheaper products available on amazon but my previous experience of project with their project head box s gave me some confidence in the quality of the product. Initial difficulty in getting it to work turned out to be purely a samsung menu issue. Very happy now that fully commissioned.

The conservatory a while ago and i was not happy using the tv headphone jack to feed the pre-amp. My legacy naim system was consigned to the conservatory a while ago and i was not happy using the tv headphone jack to feed the pre-amp. So i purchased this dac to receive the digital signal from the tv via an optical cable and purchased a twin rca to 5 pin din lead to feed the analogue signal to the pre amp. Installing the dac only takes a couple of minutes, but i did not get any sound initially and this was because i needed to check the tv manual to set the output from internal speaker to external audio out. Once done, i was really impressed with the improvement in sound quality. When watching tv, dvd’s, blu rays and youtube videos etc i can say the sound is very entertaining. The only downside is that the volume is not very loud. Normally, i play cd’s on my naim set up at about a 35% volume, but to get the same volume through the tv via the dac, i have to turn the dial up to about 75%. This is the first time i have purchased an external dac and just thought ‘a dac is a dac’.

Small dac box works great with old cd players improves the sound significantly. Here are the specifications for the PRO-JECT Project DAC Box E Digital to Analogue Converter:

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • 24bit / 192kHz D/A conversion
  • Special low noise components
  • Gold plated RCA connection sockets
  • Co-axial (RCA) & optical (Toslink) S/PDIF input
  • Improve sound from digital sources

One notices better definition and an increased sound stage. This is a very competent dac at an affordable price, ideal if you play mostly standard res 44. 1 cds, although it can cope with higher res formats. Compared to the typical internal dacs of mid range cd players, one notices better definition and an increased sound stage. Highs are crisp and low frequencies are tuneful. The case may be basic, but the audio quality is high and it is very easy to deploy with both coax and toslink inputs and standard phono outputs. A great upgrade for players (or other compatible digital source components) which may have been sourced a few years back and have since been superceded in sound quality.

Very good value for money from a company known for this. Good build and sound for the pruce.

Meridian Audio Meridian DAC Audio USB Explorer 2 : great sound but limited connectivity

Sound quality of mqa files is very good. Dac works well with 1 plus 3 phone plus with laptop.

I guess it depends what your computer sound card is like as to whether you think these are brilliant or not. Plugged into a newish macbook pro, which has a pretty decent dac on board, the audible difference is so small as to not warrant the £99 price tag, for me anyway. I can see on a pc, with a low end sound card, the difference would be more spectacular though.

Meridian DAC Audio USB Explorer 2

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • True Meridian quality from a pocket Digital to Analogue Converter
  • Includes USB DAC, Preamp and Headphone Amplifier
  • Features a 24 bit/192kHz DAC that enables these highest resolution files to be played at their native resolutions
  • USB-powered; plugs into any computer with a USB port
  • Revolutionary MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) technology

Meridian explorer 2 1st impressions. . It replaces an hrt microstreamer which is an excellent bit of kit. The explorer 2 is also a headphone amp and adds some oomph to the music. It is still burning in at the moment and the sound is a little bright but should improve. I am very impressed with the sound quality so far. The only problems i have found were in installing it which is a bit more complex than the hrt microstreamer process. And getting it to work with itunes also proved a challenge. It works now but don’t ask me what i did to achieve that :-)all in all a very accomplished little gadget which improves upon the excellent music quality provided by the dac it replaces. I doubt i will need to add anything more to my set up now.

Was quite surprised to learn they were doing a relatiely low-cost dac like the explorer. To me, meridian has always been some unattainable, rarefied hifi boutique. I remember the reverence and starry eyed way which various dsitributors refer to the meridian setup at the bristol hifi show. Was quite surprised to learn they were doing a relatiely low-cost dac like the explorer. From specs alone, it looks like there is a lot of trickle down technology. I was looking for an affordable dac for a friend who runs his music off a mac mini via headphone out to a yamaha as500 and b&w 685 speakers. The weak link being obviously the source. Amongst the dacs in contention were the audioquest dragonfly 2 and the arcam rpac. A bit more digging and i came to learn of the meridian and the newly launched explorer 2 with mqa technology. Now this is the first time i’ve heard of mqa, but i read about meridian’s recent presentation at an international conference regarding the differences between hi-res and normal red book music.

This little thing is an absolute jewel, either through cans or an amp, particularly if you connect it to a computer streaming an mqa source, such as the many albums now available on tidal hifi. These are the best quality reproductions i have heard. The improvement is not even subtle, but startling discernible, even against other hd sources. Needless to say, it poohs on amazon and apple compressed music from a very great height.

Meridian DAC Audio USB Explorer 2 : Loved the original explorer, this is even better. I travel a lot in my job and work away from home a lot. So i rip most of my cds to a portable hard disk and listen to music via my laptop and either headphones or portable speakers – but mostly head phones (bose quiet comfort). I have been using the original explorer for about 15 months, and i really like it, the improvement in sound over simply using the standard sound output from the laptop is amazing. When i saw that there was a newer version available, i decided to go for it, and i am definitely not disappointed. Trying to analyse the sound is quite subjective, and definitely depends on the type of music one prefers listening to in the main. I listen to mostly rock, blues, but i also like techno, chill-out, acoustic /vocal. Even during the initial burn-in, i can hear that the explorer2 adds something to the original explorer. Whether it is £200 better is certainly debateable, but i can hear an improved clarity. Just like the original, the explorer2 comes with a short usb – miniusb cable to connect to your laptop, and the output is a 3.

Excellent dac sounds better than a dacmagic. Excellent usb dac worked great with a macbook air. Have a dacmagic and this dac sounds better.

Never realized how good this unit would make my pc sound. Never realized how good this unit would make my pc sound. Compared to the sound quality from the ear phone outlet on the pc this is really a rolls royce piece of kit.

This little pocket dac is a fast and convenient way to connect a set of decent quality headphones to a pc or mac. Simply download the drivers from meridians website, plug in and off you go. I use a set of sennheiser hd650s. They don’t require a massive amount of output to drive them compared to other pro headphones, but the average headphone output from a computer soundcard will struggle not to mention carry a lot of rf from the motherboard, so a little device like this is very welcome. The explorer is the size of a very large usb stick, or about 5 apple tv remotes stacked on top of each other. The fittings are secure and very well made and it is most refreshing not to have 40 foot of useless usb cable included with the device, instead a short little cable is provided which is perfectly sized. In addition, a well made pouch is included, making the whole thing pocketable and well protected. I own the original meridian explorer which i was impressed with from the get go. Sound output is warm, clean and nicely spacialised such that you can pick out each instrument with no difficulty.

Greater clarity of sounds compared to my mbp dac. Plus the advantages of meridian mqa & apodising filter.

Good but too expensive for what it delivers. . This amplifier works fine but not better than many others cheaper models. Sleek design but not so smooth to the touch. I returned it and bought thefiio e10k, less than half the price, and am very happy with my choice.

This dac is so good i am selling my stream magic 6. I am so glad that meridian are now producing products that are shall we say more affordable. In the early 1980s i bought the original mcd cd player and always hoped to return to meridian one day.Setup is easy and instructions are excellent.

Good piece of audio gear, mqa masters on tidal are floating my boat nicely.

Orgreceived my explorer2 in the post from meridian through amazon uk yesterday. Wasn’t expecting it to arrive until after christmas so was well impressed with amazon’s serviceanyway – only had one evening with it but i can tell i’m already sold and this one won’t be going anywhere soonmy set up issource:- dell inspriron i5 pc running tidal/ spotify (premium)/ also with a number of hd tracks download from a short time with qobuzdac: previously music fidelity v90-hpa. Now obviously the meridian explorer2headphones: b&o h6the change of dac has made a huge difference to the detail and smoothness of almost anything i listen to. The highs are detailed but smooth and the bass has completely tightened up and really shows the h6s to have great bass extension (not something that most people would expect, but i think it just goes to show they need the right set up to make them shine)the only downside is that it’s sort of killed spotify for me, still great for mobile on the go use but not for serious listening. I couldn’t believe how much better the tidal lossless streams now sound versus the 320kb spotify equivalents. I have only been trialling tidal for the past few months but looks like it might finally be time to move on from spotify. One thing i need to do some research on is hooking the explorer2 up to my ipad air. The tidal app on ios looks great but i’m not sure if the dac will play nice and already know from previous posts it will need a usb power splitter and battery to even stand a chance.

AudioQuest Dragonfly Dac – More great noise!.

Brief supply paired it up with my oppo pm-3 taking part in flac information with a little help from the cost-free demo of roon.

Very good but if you have to have a volume management and use. Good but if you need a quantity command and use it with an iphone7 go for the purple, possibly i must have.

Purchased it to pair with my ath-m50x. The variation with and devoid of a dac is astounding. I discovered classical, vocal and instrumentals benefit especially from the dac. The only draw back is the gold usb connector is a tiny wobbly. Not a lot, but i am a little worried that the recurring movement of plugging and un-plugging it from my desktop will lead to a free relationship and crack the dac. Here are the specifications for the AudioQuest Dragonfly Dac:

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • Compatible with Apple and Windows PCs, as well as iOS and Android mobile devices (requires Apple Camera Adapter or Made for Android/OTG adaptor)

Finest expenditure for audiophiles on the go. . Even my most noisy and chaotic tune will become crispier and clearer and the file is just a low-res mp3. If you do not see any edited evaluate from me than this dac is quite endurant (acquired from 04 sep 2017).

I use it mostly with my oneplus 3, usb audio player pro and my mee audio pinnacle p1’s. It sounds far better than the dac in the oneplus and has a generous amount of power, i don’t usually go over 40% volume or so, the pinnacle are pretty high impedance for iems so they need a little more juice than average. On w10, the dragonfly really benefits from the 5v power from usb and can really, really drive a pair of iems, i use 10/100 volume and they are blaringly loud. It even has enough juice to drive my hifiman he-1000’s to a half decent volume, although admittedly, it’s obviously not my go-to option for driving them, with that said, it does so pretty admirably. I’d highly recommend, i don’t think you could do as well for the money given the portability of the dragonfly.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Great for improving Spotify from my mac mini
  • Absolutely brilliant
  • One of the best value audio buys I’ve ever made

I’ve employed the dragonly to hook up my audio-challenged computer system to my excellent audio program with a mini-jack/phono cable) & am delighted with the seem high-quality. Massive improvement around cable without having dragonfly on mp3, cds and flac documents.

For the value an complete bargain. . For this cost an absolute steal. It designed a refined however visible big difference in audio from my apple iphone six but i actually recognized a variation when jogging it with my macbook professional, which ought to have just one of the worst seem cards in history in it. I really offered my oppo ha-2 dac/amp since this is far much more moveable and discreet. The drain on my cellular phone battery was not really visible as it makes use of a tiny quantity of electric power to run and its so small you overlook you have it on you. Granted my oppo sounded far better but it was only truly apparent in a very managed natural environment. At a 3rd of the value this is a no brainer. You will have to have a lightening/digicam package adapter and i finished up acquiring the apple a single thanks to some terrible evaluations of the less costly kinds and so considerably so great.

If you are 2nd-guessing, this is your very first dac, you have a half-respectable can — glimpse no even more, just buy it. I have to consider number of minutes off get the job done just to type this overview. Substantially far better than i considered/envision what it would be.

Really superior, i only use this on my laptop computer with. Genuinely superior, i only use this on my laptop computer with audio-technica ath-m50x headphones, enhances the audio excellent really properly.

1 of the finest value audio purchases i’ve ever made. Use this with extream audio participant pro on my samsung s7 and the high quality of seem is excellent. 1 of the greatest price audio purchases i have at any time created.

Terrific small detail which increases the audio of my macbook. Great minimal issue which enhances the audio of my macbook professional quite noticeably. I’d advocate this as i use it all the time even viewing youtube video clips so whilst it may perhaps appear high priced considering the use you get out of it it is really worth it.

The audio high-quality generated by this gadget is astounding. I failed to realise how weak my crafted in audio card was until i started off using this and could hear minute specifics in music i hadn’t even found in advance of.

Great product use it on my sony 1000 headphones with extra clarity.

Arcam irDAC-II Digital to Analogue Converter – It’s beginning to grow on me :-)

But it should also support airplay.

But even if the mike jack is plugged, the line out is still working.

Good clarity and soundstage but lacks dynamics. Here are the specifications for the Arcam irDAC-II Digital to Analogue Converter:

  • Enter your model number

  • 6 Digital inputs: 2x Coax, 2x Optical, USB and Bluetooth
  • ESS ES9016 Sabre DAC
  • Fixed & variable analogue output
  • Headphone output
  • Stylish cast aluminium chassis

Tried head to head against a 5* rated (what hifi 2017) cd player. The arcam with cambridge cxc transport was significantly better all round – clarity, sound stage, dynamics.

Unique british designed product. Great sound quality – big improvement over using the in-device dacs. I play all my digital audio devices through it so multiple input options very useful – i use them all. Two outputs also good – i connect the fixed output to my main tv/sound system, and the variable output to my active computer speakers.

  • Upgrade your hi-fi.
  • Good DAC, not so sure about the headphone amplifier

Good dac, not so sure about the headphone amplifier. I am using this in combination with an rplay and another headphone amplifuer as the built in one does not do it for me. Mind you the amplifier cost as much as this dac amplifier so you pay your money and take your choice.

Lovely dac, less sure about the headphone amp. As another reviewer has noted, the headphone amp is not really on a par with the rest of the contents. To my ears, it sounded harsh and over-analytical. *however* this could be down to the rest of my equipment and personal taste. I got a valve headphone amp and fed the signal from the arcam into that and my system now sounds stellar in its quality. I cannot really fault the irdac-ii – it does a superb job. I’m sure (as with all hi-fi) that if i spent more money i could get something better, but i would think i’d have to spend a *lot* more to get a significant improvement. I can only judge this from listening to components from a (richer) friend’s system, which cost a lot more, but frankly didn’t offer any improvements on the dac front. I would say that this is a safe bet to buy. If the headphone thing is an issue, then there’s your excuse for your next spending spree.

Deceptively good value, audiophile grade plenty of inputs and remote. More substantial than you might expect from the photographs. Sound quality is superb and triumphs over the well specified pro audio interfaces i use. My front end monitoring is pretty revealing, jm lab speakers and primare amps. I don’t expect much difference between dacs. But was immediately impressed by the extra clarity, noticeably smooth cymbals and reverb tails, which i suspect are due to the extremely low jitter. There’s more low end weight, but it’s not forced. The stereo image seems much better defined and wider.

Excellent playing into a supernait 2 using flac rips from. Excellent playing into a supernait 2 using flac rips from my vinyl – i use a low spec (fanless, silent) laptop connected to a nas server and into the irdac2 via usb, all in all, am very pleased.

Good clarity and soundstage but lacks dynamics.

AudioQuest Dragonfly Dac : I had thought that the rPAC was giving me all I could expect

Stunning sound with loseless source and a good listening environment. . I’ve tried a number of dacs over the last few years including owning the arcam irdac and the marantz hd-dac1, as well as an apogee one which i used as my iphone dac. This pretty much blows everything out the water including the marantz. Sparkling treble, velvety mids and bass, it makes the music live. As a mobile dac it works well (with an iphone 7plus and apple cck 3), but some of the detail is lost when listening out and about, you have to listen in a quiet environment, even with noise cancelling headphones. When used with lossless sources (i use tidal) it is beautiful. It seems to have little effect on iphone battery life and so far i have seen none of the paint damage other reviewers mention, although i have only had it a month.

This really compact device enhances sound in every possible way. I have not tryed against competition but at this ‘usb stick size’ it may be the winner.

Amazing product i am using with pcs , i-phone and i-pad air2. The clarity and volume boost from this tiny device is astounding.

If you have even half decent headphones and you listen to relatively high quality music through your phone (iphone in my case) then your basically wasting your time without this little wonder, yes it isn’t cheap but frankly the difference is so night and day it pains me to think of all those mid and high end headphones being wasted listening to music on mobile devices without this. I was considering a big headphone upgrade until i tried the dragonfly, now i don’t think i’ll bother.

Big difference compared to a samsung note 4. I was surprised to hear such a big difference, the qualcomm chipset in my samsung note 4 was flat, lifeless and congested by comparison. The dragonfly can even drive my hd600 phones.

Audioquest Dragonfly Dac Red : Small and truly amazing sound. This dragon is small light but don’t let this fool you. Once plugged in it comes alive and will blow you away. It is loud powerful and got wonderful imaging and separation of signals. Deep clear base and sparking tremble sounds and a nice mid range. Of energy and brigs all your music alive revealing passages of music you never heard beforei have a sony doc costing twice a price this dragon half the price and incredible.

Amazing product, plugged into a hifi it’s better than. Amazing product, plugged into a hifi it’s better than a dacmagic, iphone, not as good as pc but still amazing, plugged into android, usb audio pro works amazing out of the box, with spotify and streaming apps you need to root your phone and us a couple of apps to manually set the upper volume limit, once done, works a treat.

Brilliant upgrade to multiple devices. . Works on my sony z2 and nexus 7 (3 year old). Much punchier and cleaner; listening to feist’s ‘bad in each other’ for example results in all the power and kick drum that should be present from an accurate reproduction. My first foray into high res files too – they seem good, although not night and day differences between flac cd rips. I’m using rha t10 in-ear headphones and bose qc25 over ear. Everything is that bit more compelling and enjoyable – more natural. I’d given up listening to portable audio but this thing has reinvigorated my pursuit. Without the device the music sounds veiled somehow.

This wee beauty is a total delight. Tiny and well designed for superb untiring sound. It works as claimed without needing external power additional to your device. I use it with iphone se or ipad pro with great results. I have an expensive main system and i am still delighted with this we beauty. In addition via free firmware update it will shortly play the excellent mqa format.

A real assett to your listening experience. . This small and simple to instal (i. Just plug it in and go) makes a real difference to the sound quality of a pc, laptop or iphone (with the additional patch lead required). Mostly i have been using it with a laptop to feed the bbc radio player, itunes and spotify streaming services into my av amp. It’s worth following the simple instructions to make sure you have the best settings for sound quality. The other use i’ve made of the dragonfly is with my iphone and akg headphones. Where the sound tended towards a slightly muddy boomy sound when connected to the headphone socket, using the apple bt-md821zm usb cable to the dragonfly cleans up the sound and speach, in particular, becomes crystal clear.

Lovely portable dac/headphone amp. Excellent piece of kit although it can be a bit of a drain on my iphone battery. I’ve now purchased a chargeable camera connector kit to nature i can maintain a good battery life. The dac/amp is an improvement on that in the iphone itself.

Cannot believe you have not bought this yet. Fantastic little device, like the older one it replaces only now much better and the fact i can use it via my ipad/ipod/iphone is a real winner too (note you will need the camera connection kit to use with an idevice).

Easy to use & excellent value for money. . It doesn’t require a separate power socket, as it’s powered just by plugging it in to the hdmi port. The cable seems like it’s strong & well made, and there is a red led light to let you know which imput on the switcher you’re using. It’s much easier than fumbling around behind the tv, as all you need to do is press a button to switch – easy.

Everything about it feels like quality. There is a good weight to the. This bit of kit is so far away from the plasticky cheap cables that are out there. Everything about it feels like quality. There is a good weight to the whole thing, and at around half a metre long it is perfect if you need to reach it to manually switch between items. On that subject, it is difficult to state with any certainty that your tech will auto switch since different tech is. All i can say is this: i run a cyclone media player, a panasonic blu ray player, and an iomega dx media player on mine and all are on standby all the time. The cable has succesfully switched to whichever player i wake up 100% of the time.

Easy to use & excellent value for money. . It doesn’t require a separate power socket, as it’s powered just by plugging it in to the hdmi port. The cable seems like it’s strong & well made, and there is a red led light to let you know which imput on the switcher you’re using. Fantastic item just tried it remote works from at least 9 metres away. Came with remote and an ir receiver extender so you can plug this in and put the remote reliever to the front of your tv.

Very pleased with the product. Does the job very well, just as described. The external power supply means the switcher does not rely on power from the connected devices. Very pleased with the product.

The only thing i don’t like about this is the blue light (only really notice it when it’s dark and there’s no lights on). We’ve since moved it to the main tele instead of the bedroom tele cos i need darkness to sleep. We really like it because it means we can have multiple things plugged in without the need to switch cables when we switch between them.

Simply done, simply delivered. . Great device representing good value for money. Used it on tv with only one hdmi port, and able to switch between my virgin media tivo box and the now tv box with a press of the button.

1 x 2 hdmi splitterthe order was delivered the very next day as estimated, via amazon prime and it was well packed in a large letterbox friendly cardboard box. The item is exactly as described and illustrated, and it arrived nicely presented into a well built kraft hard card box. I ordered this hdmi splitter as a request from my husband as he needed a tool which could feed the images and mirror it to two devices. He is using it since it arrived and according to him, it does exactly what claims to do without a fault. So far, so good and we are very happy with this item. All in all, it is a great product and based on its quality and the fair price, it deserves to be rated with all stars. It is the very first time that i had the opportunity to use an item by incutex uk store and i am very happy with the seller and its products. They offer a great variety and very competitive prices. The customer service is courteous and super efficient.

, manufacturers never give us enough ports of all types. This fits the bill for hdmi ports wonderfully and works exceptionally well.

iFI Audio iFi Audio iPurifier 2 USB Audio Purifier : Great but flawed

Great system tweak – but, incorrect image, this is not type b. You need a pretty decent setup to justify the existence of this tweak in your chain, and – if you do, i can say that it adds some body, and articulation to the sound, although not the same as going from am to fm radio, more like the difference between a 320kbps mp3 and a flac file – some will hear the difference, others won’t – thankfully i am one of those that can :)mine is partnered with the audioquest jitterbug usb filter and the combination is brilliant for squeezing the last nth of sound quality out of my setup. Buyer beware though, at time of writing (19 june 2016) that the version shown is the type ‘b’ (printer type) output which would allow you to plug this directly into a dac with a usb b socket, however – the version shipped is type ‘a’, so – to plug this into your dac you need two usb type b cables. Type a is perfect for other products though, such as the audioquest dragonfly dac red.

Top marks all music sounds better, lows mid highs better defined.

Device appeared to be very temperamental. When working properly the improvement was astonishing (forget those fancy and expensive usb cables). The sound stage was wide, deep and most interestingly also had height, something i’ve only ever heard on my vinyl system. Unfortunately it had a habit of ‘loosing’ the nuforce dac80 i was using, bringing up a driver error message in windows. When using my ap linux based server the dac would disappear from the list of available devices. A real shame as it showed great promise.

I thought it was good enough so far and i didn’t need any extra. I was already into ifi audio products having bought the iusb psu and the gemini cable. Together they made a substantial improvement in received sound (see my reviews). I thought it was good enough so far and i didn’t need any extra tweaks, yet i managed to persuade myself to go one step further and go for the ipurifier2. Yes, you can get get carried away late at night with a glass of wine and make reckless purchases on the internet and regret them later. Afterwards i was cursing myself for paying out a lot of money for some absurd little gadget that won’t make a ha’porth of difference to my musical appreciation. On arrival and application, there was a startling and immediate improvement in what i was listening to. I’m groping with words to describe the impression i got: the sound was more open, more immediate, more defined, more detailed, more focused, cleaner and wholly more realistic.

iFi Audio iPurifier 2 USB Audio Purifier : The ifi audio ipurifier 2 steps up the sonic performance. The ifi audio ipurifier 2 steps up the sonic performance feature set over the previous flagship: the ifi audio ipurifier. With its vigorous space presentation and clean, easy-to-listen sonic persona, the ifi audio ipurifier 2 earns for me the everything audio network stellar sound award. All ‘n’ all huge sonic improvement in all frequencies.

Great purchase, very well worth the money. Like all hifi components, performance will likely vary from system to system. But in my system (mac mini with 16gb ram, everything battery powered, ssd-only hard drives on different buses, 2 audioquest jitterbugs (another brilliant buy) in place and the system optimised to not use the swap file etc (basically everything done to minimise noise and jitter-inducing activity in the computer)) it makes a really positive difference (naim pre/power, teac dac and quad electrostatics, nordost cabling) that’s well very worth the money in my experience.
