CHORD ELECTRONICS Chord Electronics Hugo Portable DAC and Amplifier : Chord Electronics products are magical

Strikes the right chord for me. Read nothing but glowing reviews of this product so decided to purchase one touse with my various daps. It really is a groundbreaking product and really has to be heard to be appreciated. It is a portable dac and headphone amplifier. The astell & kern ak240 is a wonderfully sounding dap but using the optical out and listeningthrough the hugo beats the ak240 own dac and amplifier. Until now my favoured listening was ak240 and fanmusic tube bl 2 amplifier. The combination of ak240 and hugo beats it by a fair margin. It does however make the ak240 a very expensive transport. Theoretically all dap should sound the same utilising their digital output, but in truth i do not find this so. I tried my fii0 x5 via digital output and it does not sound as good.

Controls could be better labeled though -. Needed a portable dac/amp combo that rivaled my fostex hp-a8c to power my fostex th900’s. Controls could be better labeled though – had to constantly refer to my user manual.

The hugo is an incredible device that betters my pre-amp that cost, errr, rather a lot more. . In the past years i have migrated from using cds to flac files and up to now have used the sonos connect box to stream music into stereos in two rooms of the house – in one room i took a digital coax out and used the dac in my classe pre-amp and in the other i used the dac in the connect box and connected with phono cables. I was unhappy with the sound out of the connect box dac and took the plunge to buy a hugo. My regular hifi shop even told me not to bother to audition the hugo as there is nothing else comparable at the price (or some way above). Note that i am using the hugo as a dac only, so i can’t comment on its performance as a portable headphone amp. First the easy conclusion – the hugo has transformed the music in the second listening room at home, where i was using the dac in the connect box. So it should given it costs 6x the price of a connect box, but the improvement in music quality cannot be stressed enough. It adds clarity, detail, and ‘body’/depth to the music all at the same time (i find most bits of hifi struggle to do all three). It can be a bit ‘full’ and is over-whelmed by particularly powerful rock music, but the performance with any music that is electronic, acoustic, vocal, and pop music and even well produced rock music is, well, transformational. In fact the hugo was so good i thought i would see what difference it made running the digital signal out of the sonos connect box and through the dac in the chord compared to that in my classe pre-amp.

Incredible sounding dac when configured for purpose. A truly amazing product at this price-point but you have to ensure your signal path and general setup are matched to the level of quality the hugo can handle and produce. You will need a good set of audiophile quality headphones and a high quality digital source to get the best out of it. I use software to produce dsd bit-streaming data from flac files to the hugo via usb or optical. I may buy a dap in the future for portability but it will need at least an optical output to satisfy the bandwidth required for the full audio experience. I currently have a reasonably portable solution with a surfacepro, (audio output configured to 2 channel 32 bit 384,000 hz), and jriver software. I’ve ripped flacs at 16-bit/44. 1 khz from albums i’ve been listening to for 35+ years and i’m hearing things i’ve never heard before. The separation is fantastic when the signal path is of a high quality and all the components are matched-up. The bluetooth element to the hugo is not my cup of tea and i don’t think i’d use it as i’d suspect the signal from the transmitter to the receiver would be susceptible to interference/noise from other frequencies using the same 2.

Chord Electronics Hugo Portable DAC and Amplifier : Probably the best sound portable dac money can buy in present. Probably the best sound portable dac money can buy in present, but still, for me the price is too high. Moreover, the built quality is not perfect, especially the delicate hd usb input. For a high-end product, obviously it’s not an issue can simply be neglected.

This dac is a revelation and i strongly recommend anyone who can to audition it. Ignore the 1-star review here. This dac is a revelation and i strongly recommend anyone who can to audition it. Sure there are drawbacks; the price for many perhaps, the fact that its obvious role as a headphone amp belies its capabilities as a stand-alone dac, and for me at least the fiddly on-off switch rather inconveniently recessed. It performs well on spotify 320 but is at its most impressive when fed with a good signal and out into decent equipment.

Currently playing with a hugo, being used as a dac in my main system, between a pioneer bdp-450 as disc spinner, tv and freeview box and an integrated amp. I rarely use headphones, so cannot comment on that. For a whole load of reasons computer audio isn’t a go-er here and i don’t have any mobile music devices. So it’s cd and dvd-a replay for the most part that will be commented on. The usb inputs will clearly be useful for those who can do computer audio. Finding a combination of optical and coax cables that will fit in the limited space took half a day of fiddling (the supplied optical cables are too short for my needs), and i’m not talking about any audiophool monstrosities here either, but i managed eventually. Then there is all the fiddling with teensy buttons and different combinations of them to turn on, select line level output and the required input. Now, i may not have the smallest fingers, but they aren’t clumsy large either and i found this awkward.

Stupid name, brilliant hifi. I use on the move with a pair of audeze headphones to wonderful effect.

Like nothing i’ve ever heard before. I was all set to buy a naim dac v1 until it came to ordering and i found out naim have the ridiculous policy that dealers aren’t allowed to post their kit out. Unwilling to make a 180 mile round trip to collect from my nearest naim dealer i took a gamble and ordered a chord hugo instead. After a prolonged listening session connected up to my windows 8 tablet and shure srh1840 headphones i was taken right back to the analogue era and with my eyes shut i could easily picture a turntable sat next to me, with the exception of an absence of pop/crackle and hiss, and a level of detail, clarity and top end extension a turntable can’t match. I can see exactly why one online reviewer claimed the technology in this device could signal the end of the vinyl revival . If there had been such a thing as a high definition lp then this is what i would imagine it would sound like. Given that a dac’s job is to try and convert the digital back to an analogue signal as accurately as it possibly can then i guess that suggests chord have done an extremely good job with this dac. Off the shelf dac chips used in other dacs have a maximum of 300 taps, many are much lower than that (i don’t know what tap stands for but my understanding is it’s basically the number of intervals per second at which the analogue signal is rebuilt). Instead of an off the shelf dac, chord have gone a different route and used a field programmable gate array which is running at 26,000 taps .The missing gaps in the analogue signal are rebuilt at this definition by using complex algorithms.

Chord electronics products are magical. Excellent product for both desktop and mobile (on the go) use. Nothing to fault really, flawless. It is amazing how they fit all that into such small size. I returned the item because i decided to go with chord mojo, which was fit for my purpose and sound quality is very close to hugo. Mojo is cleaner sounding but hugo is warmer. I would have kept hugo and returned mojo if hugo was as cleaner sounding as mojo but for the price difference, mojo was a no brainier for my use. You can’t go wrong with any of these products.

Kitsound KingstonLight Portable Wireless PA System – Excellent sound.

Good features and controls, sturdy and loud – good for bbqs or the beach etc. I wanted this for ages and got it for christmas last year after much hinting. I liked the idea of an offline speaker that had some poke. I have to say it’s very good. It is solidly built, and although the sound is not for the connoisseur, it is perfect for taking down the garden for bbqs and having music that is loud and bassy as you like rather than a tinny battery powered mini-speakers that usually have to do. I’ve run it for 2-3 hours without the battery falling below about half power according to the indicator but usually i just have it plugged in most of the time. The bluetooth works perfectly too. I can’t stand bluetooth devices that are forever unpairing or not finding my phone or tablet. This just connects immediately after switching on and off we go. My only minor complaint would be that it needs to be switched on to charge it seems.

Great sound, great features, self-contained and works off grid.

Does precisely what it suggests on the tin 👍🏼. Only has the speaker a several days but it has performed specifically what i wished it to do. . At times i wished it went a minimal louder when connected via bluetooth for outdoors spots, but in common i am quite joyful with it 👍🏼.Here are the specifications for the Kitsound KingstonLight Portable Wireless PA System:

Fantastic seem, uncomplicated link by means of bluetooth, superior high quality unit.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • The PArty system with a punch
  • The King of Portable Speakers

Fantastic sound and bluetooth works well. The docking station usb is uncovered and vulnerable though so i try to avoid using it.

Great sound and playing time. Great for sound and seems to last for ages. We use ours for a spinning class. It is put in a large hall with 20 cyclists all on turbo trainers (which aren’t quiet). Then i control the sound from my smart phone. I can control the music, track forward, back etc turn up or down the volume without evening getting off my trainer. I could even plug in a microphone if my voice wasn’t so loud. We can also mount a apple device to the speaker to charge it up or plug in a usb lead at the back. It has the latest lightening connector so works with iphone 6 and plus. We prefer to use the bluetooth as it means you don’t have to be connected to the unit you can do it from some distance away.

Outstanding piece off kit would recommend it.

The party system with a punch. I was supplied this device to supply an sincere overview, listen to are my views:the audio system provides a load of characteristics in contrast to other portable speakers. It incorporates features that enable wonderful tune the audio alongside with solutions for machine inputs. It has a a few-channel mixer, a mic, line-in and the bluetooth/dock source. There is a quantity management on the device but this, as can other capabilities, can be controlled from a machine applying bluetooth. The bluetooth enables it to hook up to various units even though the lightning dock at the prime of the device can also demand the extra modern-day iphones (5 and 6 for case in point). It has xlr and rca inputs as perfectly as analog rca outputs for seem recordings if you would like to do so. It states the internal battery will give you 5 several hours of portable ability involving expenses, i found it nearer to 4 but that is however really extraordinary looking at the quantity i was taking part in it at. Reading through the element i am explained to it is constructed of mdf wooden and coated in epoxy paint to safeguard it from outdoor use. And i have to say it feels terrific good quality and really strong.

The finest speaker i have owned to day. The finest speaker i have owned to date. The seem high-quality is next to none, even at the greatest quantity the seem is even now crisp and the bass surrounds you. Aesthetically pleasing and it seems to be so amazing when we have our quite a few events. With everyone that has occur spherical, they often question this speaker and i extremely suggest it to any person. I haven’t attempted out the battery existence on full but we enjoy it at about 70% and it always lasts a very good four hours. A further great feature for the children or dj enthusiasts, is that you can play two units at the very same time, utilizing either bluetooth/dock and aux in, with separate quantity controls you can get mixing. It also has wheels to transfer it about and it is just not too heavy. Suitable for anyone who has a lot of events/gatherings/health club lessons. Highly endorse, i am still to uncover any concerns with it.

Outstanding piece off kit would recommend it.
