Sony HT-ST9 7 – Excellent sound bar with a few niggles here and there

Used with a sonia bravia television. This sony sound bar is a smart looking piece of audio equipment but sizeable, measuring 113cm length x 13cm depth x 9cm height. It can be shelf or wall mounted. In addition there is a large subwoofer, itself measuring 42cm depth x 40cm height x 42cm width. I have placed the sound bar on a shelf of a tv cabinet beneath a 40” television which is not intrusive. If the television screen were smaller, i feel the size of the sound bar would be out of proportion. The subwoofer sits out of sight behind the tv stand. The sound bar front may be left to reveal the seven speakers or covered using the black grille provided. Instructions provided are in two parts comprising a clear startup guide and a more comprehensive booklet of operating instructions. The sound bar and subwoofer each require a mains connection but the two are connected wirelessly, thus doing away with a further cable connection.

Excellent sound bar with a few niggles here and there. Home cinema systems with the traditional set-up are a staple diet in a home cinema set-up. The trouble has been the amount of space that is required for an array of speakers, subwoofer and amplifier along with the wiring. The sound bar came out of a need to provide some of that home cinema experience but in a compact form. Some of the first attempts were to say at least pitiful but yamaha became the forerunner in sound bar technology. Roll on to 2015 and we are using improved set-ups and sound bar technology has moved on. There have been reports that the traditional av receiver is declining in popularity whilst sound bar sales are on the up. Some purists may argue that isn’t so and will probably slate off sound bars for not offering a true cinematic experience. So what’s so very special about the ht-st9 that could make you think about ditching the av receiver altogether?.Hopefully with this review you’ll get an inkling of what the ht-st9 is about and what it is capable of. Panasonic SCB-TT465EB9 6 : I love

Works fine but very loud fan. Would have been better with more digital inputs and dab radio.

A brilliant system once you get it all set up. It took me two whole days to adjust the settings properly to get the best sound from all of the speakers. I had to keep readjusting everything until i got it just the way i like it. Plus the digital optical cable wouldn’t register/work at first but it is working fine now. I did try using a good high quality hdmi cable but the picture and sound was horrible the dialogue kept fading. I have ordered some fibre optic hdmi cables from amazon but i am not sure if they will be any better.

Panasonic ALL1 Network Audio Connector – Not for those without a sound system, and rather complicated to set up!

The panasonic all1 is a very small unit that streams content from your home network, tablet or phone, into your existing speakers or hifi system. -it uses wifi or a lan connection to access the internet and connect to your mobile device or computer, and simply connects to your music system with the audio cables. Its connectivity is also good, so no problems there. It connects to many types of speakers, with aux or optical connection. To operate the device, you need to plug the its power cable, turn it on and wait for the lights to become steady. Then follow the installation steps on your mobile device. If the panasonic webpage does not appear, you can carry on with the installation manually, and it is very straightforward. Afterwards all you need to do is to download the most useful applications panasonic music stream, all play radio and all play jukebox. The last app allows you to stream music your phone, tablet, and home network.

Disappointing – can only use spotify if on premium. A panasonic product for me should always be a safe bet in terms of value and also premium quality. The concept of this had so much promise but i was left disappointed for a few reasons. It took me 3 attempts to get connected to the wireless router. Instructions were pretty bland and certainly not the easiest. The real spoiler is that in order to listen to spotify on this, you have to have the premium version of spotify. . So disappointingalso if you’re listening to tracks, if someone else wants to add a track, it takes over your tracks and puts theirs in front. Pointlessthe pricetag on this is outrageous, i’d struggle to justify £99 let alone £199. It is a small piece of kit and sadly that’s one of the only real positives.

At first the panasonic all1 worked fine for me and i thought i’d avoided all of the connection problems other reviewers had – then after a firmware update (the second in a month) and the unit being disconnected and moved to another room it threw a tantrum and refused to reconnect, at least for a while. Setting up the all1 up on your home network should be simple enough: you simply connect it to your hi-fi amp with the supplied (but quite short) phono cable and then turn it on. At first the unit creates its own (unprotected) wi-fi hotspot and you temporarily connect your smartphone (or other device) to that which allows you to log into the all1 and set the username and password for your existing home network. The all1 then shuts down its hotspot and reconnects to your home wi-fi network and from now on you can use the panasonic music streaming app on your ios or android device to play individual songs or create playlists. The all1 lets you play songs direct from your smartphone or tablet, from a nas server you might have setup (for example using plex or a dlna app), from internet radio app’s or from streaming services like spotify, though you’ll need a premium spotify account for this to work. In theory, because it uses wi-fi, the all1’s got several advantages over similar devices that use bluetooth – the range is much greater, so you can control the device from anywhere in your home you have a wi-fi connection whereas bluetooth has a more limited range, usually only in the same room. Bluetooth usually uses its own codecs to recompress music before sending it over the bluetooth connection, this reduces the sound quality quite audibly (although the aptx codec is pretty good) whereas the all1 can send the original files over your home network with no additional compression necessary – if you store your music in a lossless format this will mean a significant difference in audio quality. Finally, the all1 must have some onboard storage of its own (although panasonic aren’t admitting how much) because it doesn’t continually stream the music from your smartphone or tablet, it simply uses the app as a kind of match-making service. You pick the songs you’d like to spend some time with and the app makes the introductions between the music source and the all1 and then steps away leaving them to get along with each other – so once you’ve setup your chosen playlist you can switch off your phone and the music still plays. Here are the specifications for the Panasonic ALL1 Network Audio Connector:

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • The Panasonic Music Streaming App makes it easy to send music wirelessly from your portable device to your speakers. This free app for Android and IOS devices simply asks you to choose your music source, choose your speaker and away you go.
  • With WiFi built in, connect the All 1C to your existing hi fi equipment to make it part of a multi room system.
  • Gold coated terminals are used to ensure that that a high quality connection is established, meaning that audio signal quality is maintained.
  • The design of the All 1C allows for easy siting in either horizontal or vertical manner, to fit conveniently next to your existing hi fi system.

The panasonic all1 does a pretty good job as an audio streamer. The panasonic sh all1c is a networked audio streamer which has its own dac (digital analogue converter) so that you can connect wirelessly to your existing (compatible speakers) and make them part of a multi room system. The panasonic sh all1c looks very sleek and stylish, black with rounded corners and covered with a leather look finish. Along the front of the unit in silvery grey are the panasonic brand name and you will also see the following: on/off, wps and mode indicator lights. Around the back is the power socket, left & right rca, ethernet port and digital output. The unit can be used standing vertically or horizontally next to your hi fi system. The size of the panasonic sh all1c is 13. Please note: this is not a speaker, it is an audio network interface which allows you to play your music all over your house as long as you have speakers that are compatible in the rooms that you wish to play music in. With gold plated terminals ensuring a high quality connection together with its inbuilt audiophile grade 192 khz/24bit dac you should have the highest quality signal conversion to your hi-fi. This means that when you are streaming high quality music you should still be getting first class audio through the device and in to your hi-fi. I did not find it too difficult to set the panasonic all1c up with my system. The all1c connects to your hi fi via the rca phone sockets.

  • Fantastic Streaming Device
  • OK for the price

Would recommend for spotify users. The panasonic sh-all1c offers you the chance to play music on your phone/tablet and stream the output over wifi to your hifi equipment. It will of course work with the panasonic all system of wireless speakers but also works just fine with any normal hifi equipment. On the plus side the streaming is very reliable with no drop-outs to report (unlike apple’s airplay which on my home set-up has a few drops and pauses) the downside is the app that comes with it. You must play music through the panasonic app rather than the normal music section of your phone/tablet. The app lacks the search functions of the music player on my iphone and is a bit ugly although it does link well into spotify meaning anything you listen to on the spotify app can be heard over your decent speakers.

The sc-all1c is a device that receives streamed audio over a wireless network and delivers it (via phono or optical digital outputs) to an amplifier. It is controlled over the wireless network using a dlna/upnp controller app running on a smartphone or table, which selects the audio source such as an internet radio station or a local dlna server, and constructs a playlist. Panasonic provide their own (free) controller app; this has an advantage over other dlna controllers in that it allows multiple panasonic devices to be grouped to play in sync (but there are also disadvantages, see below). I’ve been using logitech (originally slimdevices) squeezeboxes for about ten years to stream audio around our house, including to an audiophile transporter attached to our hifi. I’m very happy with this setup, but all too aware that logitech have discontinued the range, and when these devices start to fail, i’ll have to find an alternative. Could panasonic devices such as the sh-all1c (and sc-all8 speaker, reviewed separately) fill the gap?. Sadly, i have to conclude that they can’t. I connected the sc-all1c to my hifi system (a cygnus 8xpd qx amplifier and d2a converter, and mission 751 speakers). I tried both phono and optical outputs (the latter feeding to the amp’s own qx d2a converter).

Hooked up with the minimum of faff. After the carry on i had while trying to hook up my panasonic all3 speaker previously, i was fully anticipating a similar battle with setting this up but it came as a pleasant surprise when it all went to plan and i was hooked up with the minimum of faff. It’s quite a compact and lightweight unit and is inconspicuous when set up next to our other audio equipment. It hooked up easily to the hi-fi via the aux socket and once the app is downloaded (if you don’t already use one) it’s a minute or three to patch it into your wifi network and you’re ready to stream music. This was the part i was least looking forward to as it caused a major headache with the panasonic speaker from the same range but everything just clicked into place this timeyou do need an android/ios smartphone/tablet etc though as you’ll be controlling everything via that device. Pretty simple to setup, as long as you take a bit of time reading over the setup guidelines (basic as they are) and if you don’t encounter any problems it’s a 10 minute job. If you search the app store you’ll find several allplay apps to control it if you don’t like the panasonic one (it’s a bit pants). I like listening to country music (don’t judge me) and the allplay radio app puts countless stations from around the world within my reach. If you have a spotify premium subscription you can stream that too. Or just use it for your playlist on your device.

Not for those without a sound system, and rather complicated to set up. This is not a speaker within itself, but it can be used to connect your music device to a speaker, over wifi. There is also the possibility to connect via wires, and there is an audio in and out cable provided. This is however, quite short, at around 25 inches, so you may wish to purchase a longer one. The problem we have had is that this does not really make it compatible to attach to the computer, at it does not come with a headphone style jack attached or provided, which is what our particular computer tower would need. Obviously this would be available to buy, but again is an extra expense. Our main systems are hdmi based, wheras this device is much more compatible with analogue. There is a port on the back for optical digital audio out provided, which may be useful for some people’s sound systems. Unfortunately we have just not been able to set this up in the way we hoped to, which may be because we did not read the details fully before ordering it. If you have your own sound system and speakers, then this would be a useful device, although it can be a hassle to set up and get connected to the network, requiring you to type in the ip addresses and manually select settings.

Works pretty well except for pause between tracks. For many years for my home music i have been using slim devices music players using a netgear readynas 104 nas as my music server. So now came the chance to own one of these gadgets as an alternate solution. I went for the hard wired rather than wireless option for maximum performance and used an optical cable (not provided) to hook it up to my sony amp. I also named the device ‘sony amp’ for identification (should you have more than one). Setup was pretty easy and the unit also updated its firmware and now says firmware version: 1. 0a5-p13now unlike my slim devices set-up to play music you need a smart phone or tablet with music on it or a pc (or i guess a mac) to play music on it.

This nice device could have bridged that gap. As an allplay device i think it works well but it dlna credentials are slightly iffy which is a pity because i thought it would be the ideal solution to dlna’s lack of support for synchronised playback. I thought i’d be able to send music to one of these from elsewhere as a dlna device and then use allplay to synch them all up. But there are two major limitations of its dlna renderer:1. Seek/ffwd/rewind) any music that has been sent via dlna to it. The manual even tells you that it doesn’t allow you to do this. Bsically, dlna cannot do synched playback, allplay lacks interoperability with all existing hardware and software. This nice device could have bridged that gap. But never the twain shall meet apparently. I have suggested improvements to panasonic about it but as usual you just get a stock reply back that they will send the suggestion to the relevant team for consideration, but no indication if, if ever, these issues will be fixed or whether there are going to be any software updates at all provided or whether this unit is now obsolete.

Gave a new lease of life to my old sound system. About 10 years ago i invested a whole pile of money into a sound system for my lounge. The speaker system still sounds fabulous, and whilst i was attracted to streaming devices such as the sonos, there is no way the sales people can convince me that their speakers systems are as good as the one i have already. I also previously had a ‘bluetooth’ speaker set-up which disappointed in the end because it wasn’t as good as my lounge speakers, and either the wireless or the bluetooth would drop periodically meaning the songs dropped too. This device has solved all my problems. I keep my expensive and brilliant old set-up, but add the ability to reliably and easily stream from spotify (or other sources). I managed to make set-up harder for myself than it need have been. I plugged in the box to my sound system, the power source, and stuck in an ethernet cable (i have a powerline ethernet from my wall socket). I then really struggled to follow the instructions and couldn’t get the configuration box to appear on any of my devices. It was only after some head-scratching that i realised the instructions assume you are trying to setup wirelessly.

This is a simple box to allow one to connect one’s old school hifi system to the modern cloud music. You take the thing and hook it up to the hifi system. You need to connect the unit to the home wifi network and follow immediately the update firmware advice on the leaflet. Those who fail to do this seem to have problems. Once that’s done, you can put the panasonic music app on your phone or tablet and begin to stream music to the hifi speakers. This is really a stopgap solution. Having perhaps spent a lot of money on a hifi only a few years ago, this dinky object allows you to connect the thing to the latest cloud and subscription music services. What i don’t like are the panasonic apps, which are not intuitively designed, or the fact that this is something else you have to plug in and take up room on your countertop. Other than that, it’s a good, temporary solution to the problem, but one that will resolve itself in future as later hifi models will undoubtedly have this facility built in.

Philips HTL3140B/05 2 – Lovely unit and works quite well.

Attached this to my 2010 tv and also to my new projector and the sound is amazing.

Improved the tv sound by 100% looks neat and well made, a very good buy.

Bought this for christmas in 2014, and it’s been perfect since. Great addition to your tv, improves the sound by a long shot. The bass is more than adequate for tv and music, bold and deep, with a loud rich sound from the speakers, you do need to buy your own optical cable though which is fine. Only gripe i have hence the loss of a star, is that every time i turn it off and back on again i need to change the input to opt in (optical), other than that it’s well worth the money.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • My tv’s speakers are not great, the problem with all modern smart tv’s

  • extremely good value for the money!

Bought on a budget after reading good reviews of it’s big brother. Bought on a budget after reading good reviews of it’s big brother, the htl5140. Wireless subwoofer synced itself with ease. It is bassy but that is easy to remedy as you can adjust bass and treble in each sound mode. I have mine set to clear with bass set to -2 and treble set to +2. I also have night mode set to on which gives superb all round performance for vocal clarity whilst still having loads of bottom end on feature films. For the price i am delighted at the performance. Mine is connected to an older panasonic viera plasma via rca audio cables and will be upgrading tv to samsung led with hdmi arc so can’t wait to hear what it sounds like then. Make sure you have a tv that allows you to disable its internal speakers, otherwise you may have problems with vocal sync.

Okay sound, great connections, bad audio synchronisation. I read many reviews for this soundbar and it sounded ideal; a wireless subwoofer, a sleek design and many connection types including coaxial, aux, usb, optical, hdmi, bluetooth and nfcfirstly, i gave this three stars because i had two of these and had to send both back because they were completely unusable. I tried for days to fix it, but every different connection setting encountered persistent audio sync issues with the video on the tv. The soundbar does have an audio sync option for delaying sound through the bar in 10ms increments, but my problem was that the audio was already behind the video making this feature useless. I first thought it was a problem with my setup, but testing on a different model of soundbar produced no such issues. It seems to be an inherent problem with this soundbar. If you’re lucky enough to get one without any audio sync issues then it the sound quality is decent, but not amazing. The bass can sometimes feel underwhelming and the sound from the main soundbar is very directional, meanining it sounds a bit unnatural if you’re not sitting directly in front of bar. It can be turned up quite loud.I never had it at full volume and was pleased if that’s any indication.

This product was great, what a great sound, service was good, clad i got it, 😄.

Extremely good value for the money. I dont normally write reviews but as i took a gamble with this i just wanted to be the first to help others make their choicefor the money you really can not beat this sound bar. It gives you a great upgrade over the tini speakers on all flat screen tvsi went for this after reading a review on the more expensive model htl5140. What hi-fi rated it highly and seeing as this is just a lower scale copy i. 2 mids rather than 4 and a 5. 25′ sub rather than 8′ i assumed it would be good enough for the £100 you save. I must admit this was not bought as a main system, its actually going to sit in my garage gym under the tv as both an upgrade to the audio on the tv and for streaming music from my phone over bluetooth; which i must say is pretty impressiveits loud enough. My wife was having a go whilst testing it in a 5m by 5m room. So for day to day its loud enough. For films its still very enjoyable. I thought the product was well packaged i. Unlikely to get damaged in transit. It was easy to put together (slide the parts of sound bar toether and secure with the 4 screws provided).

Repacked with no user manual which easily downloaded. . Practically brand new, repacked with no user manual which easily downloaded.

The sound bar does improve tv sound but:1. The bass is a bit too strong. It powers down if there is no input signal, this should be optional. 3 the wireless link to the woofer interferes with other wireless devices in the area – an optional wired connection would be an improvement (after all it does need a wired connection to the power supply). The digital display is not bright enough when viewed near a bright screen. Overall this sound bar is not up to the quality i expect from philips and constantly irritates. Some minor tweaks would make it a good piece of kit.

Sony HT-CT390 300 W Sound Bar – Underwhelming but mostly functional

Lip sync issues only effects blutooth. I was gonna pass on buying this as several reviews mentioned lag/lip sync issues. When using wired connections (hdmi and optical) it’s perfectly fine. There are lag issues when using the bluetooth connection though. Audio wise it’s not too shabby. Bass is decent but no where near over powering.

Sony ht-ct390 sound bar + subwoofer. Being new to sound systems in general i wasn’t sure what to expect. We’ve always just turned up the telly in the pastthis kit from sony was easy enough to setup out of the (strangly shaped) box. The long soundbar is low profile and doesn’t look out of place sitting on the bottom shelf of under the tv, blueray and sky boxes and the subwoofer to the left of the tv. Once it was plugged in and working you can really tell the difference from the tv speakers. The sound quality is great to my ears. There is a depth of bass from the subwoofsound and the sound does fill our lounge. We have quickly adjusted to having it switched on permanently whenever the tv is on. You will need an hdmi cable (not included) to get setup and running for the first time.

Nice quality -and with night mode can lift dialogue further. For the price £180 (amazon deal). No lip sync issues (arc return used) – see my thoughts on this below. I bought it for my tv in the kitchen. Being a large noisy family room, the standard tv speakers were not up to it. Nice quality -and with night mode can lift dialogue further. Sub has nice balanced sound as well (don’t know what other posters are talking about orange light. Mine is green as per instructions). **please note earlier firmware on sony 4k android tvs did show lip sync issues on my other sound bar for the living room and on 7. • Wireless music streaming over Bluetooth
  • Flexible setup with a compact wireless subwoofer

Very pleased first time l have used a sound bar find. Very pleased first time l have used a sound bar find it a lot better then the suroud sound systems that l have used in the past first class.

Once you set up the wireless sub woofer correctly you wont believe your ears glad i bought this no regrets.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Not bad, was expecting worse as it’s all plastic and wood gives a better sound, so I was surprised
  • I would recommend for anyone looking to upgrade poor TV speakers
  • Bit dissapointed

Simple set up, excellent sound quality but disappointed with volume. It’s louder than the tv but only just.

I wanted this sound bar for a while but waited until it went on sale, there wasnt many reviews online but with sony you expect quality and thats exactly what you get. The sub speaker really adds depth to what ever your watching and is easily hidden away.

Very good soundbar and sub woofer. Very good soundbar and sub woofer, albeit very large. We’ve been using a soundbar by a well known speaker brand with our samsung series 6 j6300 55-inch tv as i found the tvs inbuilt speakers quite harsh and it is currently about half the price of this sony soundbar, but was about two thirds of the price about 9 months ago. So the question for me is; is the sony twice as good?. But it is appreciably better in some ways. For a start, it’s much more powerful. This is good for us as we have a large living room and due to its shape we sit about 15 feet away from the tv and for me this is where the sony soundbar comes into its own, because i think the nearer you get to this speaker the worse the sound is. Up close the sound could be quite airy and thin and i have to say this is something i’ve noticed with a lot of modern speakers, the lack of a wooden cabinet seems to make them quite ‘tinny’ at low volumes. This at higher volumes it’s very good i think the size of this soundbar is an attempt to widen the soundstage as much as possible and i think it does work, from where i sit if i play music at a fairly high volume the soundstage is pretty impressive. Set up was very easy, virtually plug and play. I used the optical cable (provided) to connect to the tv and then waited whilst the soundbar connected wirelessly to the sub woofer and then connected both via bluetooth to my laptop and our kindle fires. I was able to listen to spotify within 10 minutes of opening the box. The sound quality is very good for a soundbar and the sub woofer does add some subtlety and range, although it’s obviously not as good as a dedicated hifi system, but then it’s not really meant to be. The sound from the tv is definitely superior to in inbuilt speakers, but this is where it’s not much of a step up from the cheaper soundbar.

Excellent soundbar, plays really with with our sony tv. We have sony’s kdl-50w805c 50-inch 3d 1080p tv, and i have to say we went on a bit of a journey with it – primarily because we had to send back two successive tvs back to amazon for dead pixels. But now we’re very happy with it, with one exception; the sound is relatively faint and weak. So i was really looking forward to seeing what this soundbar brought to it. First, setting it up literally could not be easier. I plugged it in, arranged it in front of the tv, and plugged it in to the hdmi port on the tv. Now i can imagine that this might be more of a chore with other tvs, but with ours the tv even recognized the soundbar, and switched the volume control on the tv remote to actually control the soundbar volume. The subwoofer connects automatically via bluetooth – again, great. Most importantly, on to the actual sound.

Once you set up the wireless sub woofer correctly you wont believe your ears glad i bought this no regrets.

Great sound really happy with this product.

Great sound provided you set it up right. Great sound and depth from subwoofer. Lot of people claim the subwoofer isn’t load, and that’s because they did not set it up correctly. If the lights green it won’t be loud enough read instructions to connect volume of bar with subwoofer, if you’ve done it right the subwoofer light will be orange not green. Make sure subwoofer volume is at max level which is 12. Hope this helps anyone who may need it. Also make sure you connect an hdmi cable with ethernet for max performance, i found older hdmi cable cause voice delay etc and ensure hdmi is plugged into your arc hdmi of your tv, if you don’t have arc hdmi you’ll have to settle for optical cable.

Sony HT-MT300 Compact Soundbar – Great sound for a small system

I bought this to enhance my new 4k tv, i particularly liked the fact that the soundbar and subwoofer were so small. The set up was easy and build quality was good except for the supplied optical cable which was plasticky and stiff and wouldn’t sit in the cable management of the tv stand properly. The soundbar quality was really good to be honest i was quite impressed not a lot of sound separation but it is a compact unit so there has to be compromise, vocals very clear and i didn’t notice any time lag. However the subwoofer although small sounds absolutely rubbish, no volume and hardly any bass. The subwoofer wasn’t any match for my old 8 inch cheap active sub which only cost £50 from ‘richer sounds’ very disappointed, if i had listened to this in a shop i would not have bought it i was almost tempted to return the item. Well i have now had it a couple of months and with tweeking of settings and changing location of sub it’s better but not great, i also found using the optical lead i had to keep reaching for the remote so now wired in analogue i can control the volume with the tv remote with no loss of quality in the sound.

A sony soundbar which has served me well with great quality of sound. I have already previously owned a sony soundbar which has served me well with great quality of sound. But this new soundbar takes it to the next level. Easy to install you plug it in and then attach the wire to the tv though you can run it through blutooth. Once up and running it produces a wonderful sound with strong and deep base and clear sound. The different settings on the control means it is easy to change to suit you best and what you are watching including a handy setting to make dialog clearer. I have the base to the side but it resonates as though it could be anywhere in the room producing a solid surround sound style experience. For best effect if you can play with your television settings to get the optimal experience and set the soundbar as your main form of sound. Goes brilliantly with my 55′ sony television and will serve me well for many years ahead.

Typical sound quality of today. My question to anyone today is; why did we get such good bass on sound equipment in the 70s – and 40 years on, hardly any at all. Well, my problem with most, if not all sound equipment these days, is the gross lack of bass on any of them. Oh this does have bass to a point, but much treble is lost as always. But to be honest, bass started to go out of fashion towards the late seventies – and lord knows why; from about the 1980s, every time i came to replace what was then called a ‘music centre’, (however much i paid) i found it increasingly hard to get anything that even matched my previous one – let alone better. It’s the same with speakers; modern tvs have pathetic tiny little speakers in them – just a racket in order to get people purchasing independent sound systems, but that wouldn’t be so bad, but what you get is not a terribly good sound quality. This equipment is built nice and looks good, and like i say, does have a little bass, but the frustrating thing is, again, unlike anything from years ago, one cannot finely tune such things as bass or treble tone, which means there are just two or three complete ‘settings’ (or choices) of sound – but you cannot tune them to your taste. As for setting up; it wasn’t that easy; clumsy instructions, and the switches you needed to access and to keep an eye on were for some bizarre reason placed at the back of the sub-woofer??i had this for review, but if i’d paid the price asked for this, i would want more for my money – but would probably expect less. People often tell me you can go to very expensive outlets and pay say a thousand pounds to get the good quality sound systems that produce the kind of sound i refer to from times gone by– but why should you have to pay all that – you didn’t years ago, and i really don’t believe it would be that much better than something like this anyway, for the simple reason, i don’t think people today know what great sound quality is anymore – and you only have to look at the amount of people that have thumbed-down this review to see that. Here are the specifications for the Sony HT-MT300 Compact Soundbar:

I liked the fact it was a small soundbar with a slim sub. Nice and tidy to go with my 55′ bravia 2016 modelhowever. . I was highly disappointed when i found two massive flaws with the system1) you cannot use a sony tv remote to control the soundbar???.I have a bravia kd55xd8005 4k tv and the remote worked fine with an lg soundbar but the mt300 is not compatibleabsolutely ridiculous. 2) the bluetooth option will not work with my sony tv either so i have to resort to an optical cable. So two huge features that i needed and yes i should have done more with my homework but hey sony and sony i stupidly assumed they would be compatible apart from that it has a great sound. Please research compatibility if you are matching with a sony tv or you will be disappointed like me.

  • So well recommended.
  • Really like this as you can have the subwoofer anywhere because
  • Love this speaker system

Good sound & loud enough for an apartment. On first impressions, this is a well made product. The quality of the components & materials feels luxurious. All wires needed are provided with the unit. The actual sound bar is a good size, & doesn’t take much space. -set-up: very easy & straighforward. -sound: for the size, excellent. It’s not surround but it has made a huge improvement with the seemingly popular problem of sound with a lot of hd/smart tv’s. It’s not that loud but if you live in urban apartment, it’s more than enough. Sound effects:-clear audio>sony recommended sound field , automatically optimises according to context & function.

Great sound for a small system. I was given the sony ht-mt300 as a birthday present, and i love it. It is small at only 50cm wide and the sound for the size blows it away. I heard the bose system against this one and there really is no comparison. I have the subwoofer put under my sofa, and has put on sofa mode. To the people saying there is no base, try sofa mode. I have wanted a sound bar for some time, and have hummed and hayed for years as to what to go for.

Very impressed with the clarity and quality for such a small soundbar.

Easy to set up and the sound is good for your basic requirements at a reasonable decibel level . Its a neat set of speakers and look quite tidy.

Was looking for speaker to fit axactly under tv and this fitted the bill, with no space to spare. That aside i was looking for sony as i like the quality of sony products, the sub unfortunately did not fit under my sofa, but is slim enough to still look good while not encroaching on the room. Sound is very good when watching good quality content. Good and full bass when listening to music. Loud enough for the whole of my house.

M-Audio M3-8 Professional 3-Way Active Studio Monitor : Great speaker 5/5

I’ve waited a while before writing a review as i wanted the speaker to be run in. I bought just one speaker as i saw it from jb’s music for only £150. What a steal,i use it for vinyl (2x 1210’s and a rane mixer). This speaker really drives the music but in a subtle way, lifting every note and bassline from other sounds,a really good speaker for the money even at the rrp £220 its a great deal. . If a mix sounds good through this speaker when recording, then when you play said recording back it sounds great.

The sound was fantastic, but had to reduce the volume to about. I bought 2 of these large heavy weight speakers. Set them up to my old nad pre-amp, cd player and record player. All bass and treble controls on the pre-amp and speakers set to neutral then set the volume control to about mid point on the pre-amp (the room is approx. The sound was fantastic, but had to reduce the volume to about a quarter on the pre-amp. Superb sound reproduction through the whole range. Now hearing things that i’d never heard before on records and cd’s. Fantastic looking furniture as well. Ps you will require good speaker stands.

I love speakers and these are just great. Had these for a couple of years now, i absolutely love them. Extremely powerful and clear sound, excellent highs, mids and lows. I had the bx5s and the bx8 d2s and they both lacked either bass or mids but the m3-8s are just perfect. There is a hum when they are powered but this is normal you just need to remove or isolate the ground cable, for me i just used a power adapter with no ground cable. If you dont prefer this then there are some machines you can use just search for hum remover. What i wish these speakers had is an auto switch on/off mode or an easier way to get to the power button. The speakers also arrived fast and on time. Thank you inmusic and amazon.

Speakers are slightly different in color, one much darker. Seller did not respond to the raised issue. When powered on there is a constant and quite loud hissing noise. Used with the balanced cable.

So l got these because l fancied a set of studio monitors for causal listening from my computer. I wanted 3 way speakers because from previous experience, i found the sound more engaging than the 2 way setup. I must stress i am in no way an audiophile. First thing, these speakers are large and heavy. Also theres no guard on the drivers so you could easily damage them lifting them out the box. Also you probably need an interface to hook it up to your computer. Then theres the audible hiss noise you get, which from what l can gather is normal for speakers. All this being said these are superb speakers; you get the 3 way drivers filling the room and the bass pumps out nicely and naturally. Plus l think they look the part with the wood and tiny blue leds, giving a classy bit of tech bling. Can’t see anyone being disappointed with these. Great service from amazon again.

Sony HT-CT290 300 W Soundbar – HT-CT290 300 W Soundbar with Bluetooth, HDMI and Wireless Subwoofer – Black

Great sounding with quick and easy setup. Review for sony ht-ct290setupsetup was pretty easy as i was replacing a previous sony sound bar and the optic cable was already attached to the tv. I tried the hdmi arc but had to keep changing it every time i turned on the tv, so went back to an optical connection. The sub-woofer had a power plug on it on this model, but this didn’t make anything awkward to install. Sound qualitythe sound quality is really good – even better than the previous sony bar we were using. The sound-stage is wider without being too stretched out. A decent amount of options from clear voice to surround. Selecting bluetooth and pairing a device was not a problem apart from the occasional disconnect for half a second but that’s at point blank range. This may have to do with the router and some access points being in close proximity. Stylingstyling is very nice.

I love good sound, my wife like things to look good. Fortunately this sound bar and sub-woofer fits both needs. The crème-white plastics are sufficiently neutral in tone and the sound bar is as small and discrete as these things go. The sub-woofer connecting by bluetooth reduces the cabling that can offend my wife’s view of décor. Good idea for domestic harmonyit goes without saying that the sound is hugely better than from our tv, whose thin design fatally compromises audio quality. The packaging is superb and set-up was easily achieved. After a while you kind of forget it’s there and you perceive the sound as coming from the right place, i. I didn’t find a need to fiddle with the settings but the choices are there for those who want to adjust things. I found it worked fine out of the box. It’s reasonably priced for this kind of device.

White goes with my wall shelf. Only downfall is my volume from both my sky remote and tv remote do not function other than the soundbar remote unless i have a sony tv too but i have lg. Here are the specifications for the Sony HT-CT290 300 W Soundbar:

Sony ht-ct290 300 w soundbar with bluetooth, hdmi and wireless subwoofer – black. I was asked if i’d like to review the sony ht-ct290 300 w soundbar with bluetooth, hdmi and wireless subwoofer – black and i said yes, as the surround sound i used to have for my tv had died on me and i’d been looking for a new one. The ht-ct290 comes in a reasonably bottom heavy l shaped box (11kg). A little awkward to carry and the box recommends two people to unpack though i managed it on my own. In the box you’ll find the sound bar, sub-woofer, remote, optical cable and manual. Batteries arealso included for the remote. The correct place to sit your sound bar is either directly in front of the tv, or in my case the shelf below as my tv’s base is quite large and there wasn’t room for it on the same shelf. I sat the sub on the floor by the right side of the tv. The ht ct290 is very easy to setup with a minimal of cables and fuss. I connected the sound bar to the dvd player and the sub is wirelessly connected by bluetooth.

Easy to set up, great sound quality and good functionality. This is a very stylish and highly functional sound bar, before i get into the features and the sound quality ill run through the set up. All that is required is to unbox the items place them how you want them to be set up, for me it was the sound bar free standing under the tv and the sub woofer to the right of the tv cabinet. There are points on the back of the sound bar to allow it to be fixed to the wall if your tv is wall mounted. After this you wither need to connect a hdmi cable (not supplied) to your tv hdmi arc (audio return channel) or via the optical audio output from you tv (optical cable is supplied). After this plug both the sub and bar in and the device will start up when activated on the remote. This took me 5 minutes to do the above. The sub and the sound bar do not require any wires between them and communicate through a wireless connection, my wireless router sits right next to the tv and i have had no interference from this connection between the bar and sub for my home network. My tv is a 40′ samsung and the sound bar fits perfectly underneath this and is the same length as the tv this was a added bonus for me as it sits nicely because of this. When powered on the front middle of the bar lights up and illuminates in a soft white light giving the text for what option is currently selectedthe sound quality is exactly what i expect from a sony device, it is excellent.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Excellent soundbar and sub woofer which provides a simpler alternative to full surround system.
  • Works well in smaller rooms but struggles in larger ones.
  • Works best with HDMI arc

Excellent soundbar and sub woofer which provides a simpler alternative to full surround system. . This is a well made piece of audio equipment. The performance of the bar and sub woofer produces a warm rounded sound with very well diferentiated sound scape. Although soundbar and sub woofer cannot match a full 5. 1 surround system for quality, this present product from sony comes close, and for those people who want the effect of a surround system without all the paraphernalia will be well satisfied. The soundbar with its blu tooth technology also works as an audio outlet for music from your phone and i found the result to be first rate. If there is a slight problem it is that the remote tends to switch on every bit of sony equipment in the room regardless.

Could do with a few more sound settings to make use of the possible quality sound available.

Its nice to have good quality. Its nice to have good quality. Look forward to more hours listening to my music.

But the optical cable slot is in a stupid place. I bought bought this cable (ibra muzil gold 1. 5m – digital optical cable | toslink / audio cable | fibre optic cable) i could not fit it in the slot beacuse the slot is in a stupid place. Does anyone know a good optical cable that will fit?.

Doesn’t look too bulky and out of place. The bass is excellent, for all those complaining – it totally relies on the quality of the sound source. Some programmes are very bass weak, but films, music and gaming really show off the strengths.

The device pairs easily with bluetooth devices (including the sub-woofer) and the remote. I live in a flat and bought this to complement my sony tv without taking up much space but found the sound quality disappointing. Soft and wooly sounding bass, boxy lower mid-range and thin upper mid-range sound with high frequencies tailing off quickly. Okay (just) for tv but not very acceptable for music. The device pairs easily with bluetooth devices (including the sub-woofer) and the remote works well even from a distance but i found the flashing notifiers on the small soundbar screen a bit confusing when changing functions etc from the remote. A row of different coloured led’s correlating to a coloured button on the remote would be less confusing plus would be more identifiable from a distance. My other bug is that the sound bar, when used with a table-top installation, obscures the main tv remote sensor so i now have to raise my arm and point the remote down to change channels etc (yes, my tv is a couple of years old now and has an infra-red remote). More modern tv’s with a wireless remote won’t be affected this way.

It’ll instantly give you the cinematic experience. After searching around i opted to purchase the sony ht-c290. I noted that pictures had the subwoofer at the front near the tv but after some basic experimentation i have decided to locate my sub behind the sofa. My god, crank this baby up and you’ll be able to feel the vibrations down the street. It’s a powerful piece of kit without having to splash out on a 5. The bluetooth sub is a nice touch and allows you to try different locations around the room before choosing the right one for you.

Quality sound for my tv and devices through bluetooth. . In the technical details much is made that hdmi arc (audio return channel) lets you connect to your tv with a single cable. My first issue with this is that only an optical cable is supplied and it is possible that if you have a spare hdmi cable it may not work as it requires a hdmi v1. 4 or later, high speed cable. I would expect at the price of this item that supplying the correct hdmi cable was the least you should expect. It is correct that once you have a cable the setup is easy but on the rear of the lg tv only one of the hdmi sockets was marked as arc and this was in use for my pvr meaning some juggling and reassigning the hdmi1 connection. You may need to go to the tv menu settings and enable external speakers if no sound is output. The subwoofer is connected wirelessly and with bluetooth this will add to the number of items in the house connected by wi-fi on the 2. 4 ghz band with my so called smart tv already reporting constantly ‘disconnecting’ or ‘connecting’ on wi fi. Using the remote control switching on the device gives only a short delay before sound is transferred to the soundbar from the tv.

Its just great, lovely sound easy to use no syncing issues.

White goes with my wall shelf. Only downfall is my volume from both my sky remote and tv remote do not function other than the soundbar remote unless i have a sony tv too but i have lg.

The only minor problem is the battery become loose sometime in the remote and you are to readjust the same. You can play cd almost all the formats. Really very happy with the purchase. It is really value for money.

Sounds amazing, looks timeless. I’d been looking for a digital radio for a couple of years, never quite liking what i’d seen. 2 previous incarnations of roberts radios were considered. This one ticked all the boxes for me – internet radio, digital radio, cd player etc. Out of the box, it looks classy, is well made and ultimately, timeless – it won’t date on the shelf due to elegant, simple design and display. It was set up within minutes – the instructions are clear and easy to follow. Above all – it sounds fantastic. Various equalizer presets are available or you can configure your own sound to your listening tastes and positioning etc. It delivers deep, rich sound with a resonant bass whilst losing nothing in the mid and high tones. Its working 14 hour days for me and i’m loving every minute.

Excellent machine but remote is faulty, because the batteries are loose. Needs seletape to keep the remote together. For such a good machine it seems petty to supply it with this problem.
