GoStreamer G8 Quad Core 4K Ultra HD Wi-Fi Android TV Box : Great little gadget

Opened the box connected to wifi/ not ethernet. Used the o t a updater for latest firmware and then connected to latest pre installed kodi 16. 1and if you no your way round kodi you will know how to install add ons and away you go. Then installed bbc i player. Web browser is lightening fast and installing apps is childs play with app store. Uhd movies stream effortlessly and after the update ethernet works a treat. Have ordered more as the 2gb of ram is what i needed.

Great for sports, films and tv. Bought as a replacement for my mx 2 box, which was getting a bit tired. This doesn’t come pre loaded with all add-ones but i followed instructions that i found on youtube. Just follow them to the letter or it won’t work. Sports, movies, tv all work well. Excellent picture and no freezing seen yet. New processor makes streaming very fast, and navigating the box is faster too. Better to connect via ethernet than wifi. Only slight disappointment was the response i had from the supplier when i needed help trying to load the sports devil addon.

Excellent product, however i had to wipe programme and re install.

One of the best i’ve had still going strong.

I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who isn’t competent at setting. You need to know what you are doing. I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who isn’t competent at setting up.

Definitely need a keypad remote which you have to buy separately. Still a bit hit and miss depending what do you want to use it for and i’ve had to re-install kodi two or three times.

Not made for the latest 4k – 60 fps hdmi 2. 0 tv’s. 4k don’t work as the g8 box only has hdmi 1. 4 and its should have hdmi 2. 0 which would have made this backwards compatible. I have tried this box on my samsung 4k tv ue65hu8500 which has the latest hdmi 2. 0 ports and also used a hdmi 2. 0 cable but the picture breaks up when setting to 4k output due to the old spec the hdmi 1. 4 port has built into the g8 box, this g8 box is not capable of outputing 4k iva hdmi unless you have a first gen 4k tv, and should have been fitted with a hdmi 2. 0 systems can transfer data at up to 18gbps, and 10. 4 can only do 8 bit colour at 24/30 fps where 2. 0 can do 12 bit colour at 60 fps,if your tv only does 24/30 fps in 4k with hdmi 1.

Had to update some of the apps but it runs very smoothly with no issues. It did have almost everything installed as standard. Needs a decent internet connection if you plan on streaming content but it does give you an option to download instead in some apps. I bought the wireless keyboard remote as well which makes using it a whole lot easier. Paid £62 as a lightning deal and seems decent value for the specs. Have not got a 4k tv so cannot comment on that aspect.

Work ok but constantly buffering. Work ok but constantly buffering. I tried ethernet over powerline – forget it – too slow. Over wifi it is faster but the main factor is your internet service provider. They seem to be able to detect traffic and throttle accordingly. I have, what appears to be an adequate internet package but appears to be buffering constantly.

Great for watching many programs first class.

The quality of this product is very good, after i bought it and use, there no problems, i believe it is very durable. I often re. Good quality for the price fast delivery. Great product at a modest price received product in timely fashion. Product is just as described in details. Works great, showed up on time. All around good experience with product and seller.

This media box has exceeded my expectations. I was used to xbmc having previously had a modded original xbox, so kodi was easy to set up. I am very happy with both hardware and the software loaded on this box.

Fantastic bit of kit well worth the money.

slingbox M1 TV Box : Great box and the apps is better on the tablet

Over a period of time i have seen negative reviews about this product and it has put me off but i eventually decided to give it a go and could not be happier with the purchase. I have used it connected to my sky tv and the set up wizard in the product was very clear and made the process simple. I am in the uk and my son has logged on to it using a web browser and watched the tv from chile. He said it worked perfectly. I recently went to spain, and used it for a week there and it worked perfectly on a 5 mbit connection, ditto from eire. I have used both a web browser and an ipad. If you want to watch your tv whilst abroad as if you are sat at home then this is what you need. Watch live tv, watch your recorded programs, watch catch up, set new recordings, etc. I have previously used hma vpn to watch programs live or use sky go/ bbc iplayer/itv hub but slingbox is much better if you have a sky box.

How to get your slingplayer m1 outputting hd from the sky+hd box. I bought the slingbox m1 to enable watching tv legally in spain, on the recommendation of a couple of friends. It is possible to get the slingbox m1 working with sky+hd if you follow the instructions below. In addition to the m1, i bought1) portta hdmi converter (https://www. Uk/gp/product/b00t75w692/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=utf8&psc=1)2) neet® – 2 way hdmi splitter box (https://www. Uk/gp/product/b001d9p1ow/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=utf8&psc=1)3) amazonbasics component video cable with audio (https://www. Uk/gp/product/b01d5h8c4k/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=utf8&psc=1)4) amazonbasics high-speed hdmi 2. Uk/gp/product/b014i8sp4w/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=utf8&psc=1)how i got it all to work:1) plug in the video cable to the convertor and the back of the slingbox m1. 2) unplug the hdmi cable from the back of the sky box, replace it with one of your new hdmi, and then plug the other end to the ‘in’ port of the hdmi splitter. 3) plug the hdmi cable you removed from your sky box, and plug it into one of the outputs of the hdmi splitter.

The m1 is a big step up from the slingbox solo, which i’ve owned for the last 4 years and have used heavily. For a start, the ability to work with chromecast + apple tv is a game-changer as it allows me to watch my home virgin media tivo box in decent resolution fullscreen on tvs elsewhere. We recently spent a couple of weeks in a rental flat in france and were delighted to be able to reliably access the kids’ favourite recordings from bbc, etc. I personally enjoyed watching the ashes on sky sports, and the device didn’t miss a beat despite a slow 5mb connection locally. I never had anywhere as reliable an experience with the older solo – the compression was weaker with frequent dropouts, and the remote ir blaster is much more responsive – and wasn’t able to cast the picture to a tv without actually connecting my laptop. The device does have a couple of issues as far as i can tell, but nothing that ruins a top-notch experience:1. Some have complained about the squashed/narrow picture when watching via chromecast or airplay (apple tv). I haven’t found a fix for the former but the latter renders correctly in widescreen when you screen mirror from iphone or ipad, rather than use in-app airplay.

Good product but in my case slingbox 350 performs better. I have two slingbox 350 and one m1. For me it seems that 350 works betterof course, if you want player for desktop definitely go for m1.

Easy set up and meets my needs.

Slingbox M1 TV Box : Not perfect but still a good solution for us. . Many reviewers here give the box 1 star because it will not do what the reviewer wants. The m1 does however do all the things it is intended to do. If you read up on what is possible and your needs fit, it is a perfectly good piece of kit. The picture quality will depend mainly on the speed of the connection between the m1 and your chosen method of viewing. For us the limit is the upload speed of the internet connection. Since swapping to fibre we are getting good quality pictures on ipad, pc and an android media player. Ok it is not hd but if you research this, you will find that this is not really a possibility. There is no hdmi connection. It tells you that in the specification.

Great solution for long distance viewing and a breeze to use so long as you have good wifi.

Does what it says with a small except in my case. Easy to set up, works with my youview box, like the android app, love the windows desktop app. Just needs to support 16:9 aspect ratio on chromecast (video there is stuck in 4:3).

The desktop pc player app isn’t much good. The desktop pc player app isn’t much good but the browser based one makes up for it.

Brilliantly easy to setup and works. I had two of the older boxes that never worked well and i could not get working this time. However this m1 box worked straight out of the box. Was up and running in minutes. Far better than the old boxes. I am most impressed and works a treat on my phone, ipad or on the pc. I only use standard video and quality is good. It would be nice to have advice what to do with at sky box which does not have the composite outputs and i hear hdmi to composite does not work due to copy protection. But quality is great on the laptop etc. Not yet tried on a big screen but will allow enjoyable watching on the move hopefully aroudn the world.

Well i have given this only 3 stars as the item arrived on time and it did give a reasonable picture and sound on my bedroom tv received from downstairs sky+ hd box. I could not change channels upstairs using the infared remote eye which was positioned correctly on the sky box even changing the channel from a to b on the sender did not help. I also tried all combinations of positions etc. Did not work for me but still worth a try. Here are the specifications for the Nyrius NY-GS10 5:

Transmits easily through the wall, great product. Just as described, works great. I tried another product before this but it wouldn’t transmit through a stone wall. This one does so i can watch telly in the kitchen. I’m yet to work out the remote control aspect but that doesn’t matter to me.

I was not sure if this item would work, but after connecting the plugs correctly – it did. Picture was transmitted from one room to another, a distance of about 5m.

Does what it says on the tin. . For what i needed it for it works perfecty.

It is perfect and has no interference whatsoever unlike the technika set i had previously. I should add that both units are indoors but the signal is sent from one building to another.

Needed a little tinkering to get it right but now works very well.

AIRTAME US INC Airtame Wireless HDMI Adapter : Essential Tech for Creative Endeavours (Airplay is a nice touch)

Simple, cost effective, wireless presentation system. I have been using this device since i got mine after a bit of a delay on their indigogo campaign. The initial firmware challegened my patience a bit and i eventually had to use the ethernet adapter to get it working as i wanted which defeated the point of wireless, however with each firmware update the device has become more and more of a winner. The most recent update has sorted out all streaming and speed issues and has made the device invaluable in our offices. It is super easy to use, we have had multiple people coming to our office to do pitches and they have all connected to the device seamlessly without any hassles. The device is also very much cheaper than the competing products on the market and there isn’t need for a whole cisco installation team to come to your office every week to help you update your hardware. All in all a very sleek, cost effective and simple solution that will save you a lot of time and hassle in your office if you do any sort of presentations on screens.

Essential tech for creative endeavours (airplay is a nice touch). I was an original backer of the project a few years ago, and used it sparingly as a student to stream things around the house and some coursework presentations. It worked well, but it was a bit fiddly and awkward. I started a games studio earlier this year and was looking for a decent solution to sharing our work on a projector and screen from multiple pc’s, aside from an awkward and cumbersome hdmi switcher, there didn’t really seem to be anything, then i remembered airtame, i bought a new one, plugged it in and it’s been invaluable ever since. We use it all day everyday, for both digital signage (tracking jira burndowns etc) and for sharing our work, an invaluable tool in the game dev process. As we expanded i bought more so that every room is now outfitted with one on a communal screen. Even when clients come to visit they love that they can download a small app (or we provide it) and they can imediately stream on our network. Whilst there have been a couple of issues with networking, it doesn’t like being forced to change ip addresses, airtame support were very helpful and we were able to rectify the issue very quickly. The only thing lacking was airplay support, but now they’ve introduced a beta version (and after remembering i was interested in it, they contacted me directly) that supports streaming directly from ios, also invaluable. Overall i would recommend this to any creative organisation, or anyone who has lots of different devices that need to present.

Airtame Wireless HDMI Adapter for Enterprises

  • AIRTAME is a small, easy to set up device that plugs into the HDMI port on your TV or projector. Connect it to your WiFi network to wirelessly mirror your entire desktop, present from mobile devices, stream to multiple screens and more!
  • AIRTAME is built for enterprises and supports a number of features other wireless streaming solutions do not such as WPA2 Enterprise, ethernet connections for noisy WiFi environments (separate adapter required), Access Point mode, and connect with IP.
  • AIRTAME works with all major platforms. All you need is an AIRTAME device connected to your TV, to wirelessly stream using the free AIRTAME app on Mac, Windows, Android, iOS and Linux. No need to plug anything into your computer or mobile device.
  • AIRTAME gets new features and improvements over-the-air. You have the choice to either receive them automatically as they are released or at a time that suits you.
  • AIRTAME is flexible: it supports dual band operations (2.4GHz and 5GHz) and you can even stream to it directly when not in the vicinity of another WiFi network.

Airtame has gone a long way since its initial launch. Hardware itself has always been great but it’s true the first software releases were bad. Fortunately, this is no longer the case. Screen mirroring works fairly well now even when streaming to multiple devices. 5 ghz radio is a blessing in a crowded environment. Can’t wait for implementation of extended desktop feature.

Delivery was prompt but part of the charger was missing.

Airtame Wireless HDMI Adapter for Enterprises : Easy to install, easy to use and works perfect.

Finally a way to wirelessly show your screen on tv/projector. . I think first requirement is that you need a good wifi network/router for this to work well. I would advice a good rated dual band wifi router. If you connect airtame to 5ghz network and laptop to 2. 4ghz network, then its the best setup for you. Also, select and uncrowded wireless channel. If you have not done this, then you might end up complaining even though its not a product issue. Once i did that, i was able to display my screen on the tv screen and there were no issues at all. The level of support at airtame forums in quite good as well. Presentations work really well too once you select the appropriate intelligent mode in the software.

No other business solution comes close, use it for meetings and to show our company’s kpi metrics.

No other business solution comes close, use it for meetings and to show our company’s kpi metrics.

Delivery was prompt but part of the charger was missing.

Coming from chromecast, i can see the difference in terms of quality, speed / performance and security (that’s where the extra bucks are going). The firmware that shipped with the device had a few bugs but after a quick update it works like charm. Great for meetings and presentations.

An effective solution for wirelessly casting that actually works. . Found airtame after trying, without success, numerous other methods of wirelessly displaying in a meeting room environment. Although airtame is a more expensive solution, i have found that it provides an effective and flexible solution to our business requirements. Although set up was quite straightforward there were still one or two issues that were addressed quickly and efficiently by the high quality support offered by the company. Their follow up and attention to detail would shame most well established companies.

Decent tech and improving all the time. If you’re looking for something to turn your tv into an extended desktop or use it as your primary monitor, don’t buy this. That’s not what it’s designed for and not what it claims to do, either. If you want to do those things, you’ll have to look for a wired solution, or a much more expensive, dedicated wireless one. This device decodes an hd video and audio signal over a wireless network (which, for the amount of data being processed, is no mean feat), or, if you prefer, it’ll work at a lower definition and reduce the latency, the lag between the computer (or phone/tablet) and the airtame. It will very happily stream in hd with a small delay, which is absolutely great for watching videos on a tv. Ignore the reviews that say sound isn’t transmitted; it is, just select the ‘video’ mode. It would be interesting to have audio in the lower latency modes, but it’s not yet offered, although at the rate they’re pushing updates i wouldn’t be at all surprised if it was on the way. Installation is relatively painless, you just need to download the software for a pc or laptop and work through the instructions.

Easy to install, easy to use and works perfect.

NETGEAR ReadyNAS 214 4-Bay Network Attached Storage – stylish, convenient and excellent performance

Excellent nas for office or media. Good performing nas for the office. Also works well as a plex server, transcoding well without the stuttering found on lesser-powered servers.

Excellent nas for office or media. Good performing nas for the office. Also works well as a plex server, transcoding well without the stuttering found on lesser-powered servers.

So as describediv had the nas running for about a month now and it seems to be ok only time will tell how good it is only down side is it would have been nice to have an instruction booklet i had to look it up on the net.

Perfect for my media storing and streaming requirements. I’ve had this unit up and running for roughly a month and so far it’s done all i’ve asked of it perfectly. I’m far from a “techie” with these kinds of things although i do have a fairly good understanding of computing in general. Initial set-up was simple enough, i use a macbook predominantly and used the netgear raidar app to find the nas on the network and enter the admin page from there. I mainly use nas devices for storing media and streaming but i don’t do a huge amount of “back-up” etc, although i will look into it with this device as the “backup jobs” scheduler looks comprehensive and easy to use. Before i received the rn214 i used to use various streaming devices and software programs to get my media around the home but the great thing with the new netgear nas’s is that they run plex media server flawlessly. I can now use the plex app on my xbox one, ipads, iphone when i’m either at home or away. I also have a sonos system that streams directly from the nas, just need to point the sonos app at the right folder and it does the rest for you. Prior to using this nas, i was using two separate nas boxes, one for media files, music etc, the other for family photos and videos. As this product is a 4 bay, it means i can have all the media on one hdd, being auto backed up by raid on one of the other hdd’s and i can do exactly the same for my family photos and videos on the other two hdd’s, great peace of mind if one of the hard drives ever failed.

Some problems to connect my samsung tv.

Reviews from purchasers :

Works great have recently become a netgear fan used to hate their products but they have come along way.

So as describediv had the nas running for about a month now and it seems to be ok only time will tell how good it is only down side is it would have been nice to have an instruction booklet i had to look it up on the net.

Home storage, simple, affordable and reliable. The rn214 is a clean and uncomplicated four bay nas enclosure with a sturdy metal chassis and two pairs of drive bays that pull out from the front (located behind a door). As well as a front usb port, which you can configure to transfer data instantly between a usb drive and the nas at the touch of a button, there are two usb3 ports at the rear and a single esata2 port. The nas connects to your network via a gigabit ethernet port at the rear. There are aactually 2 gigabit ports here which when combined can take advantage of a speed boost that overcomes the natural bottleneck of a single cable connection. There is a handy web browser based set up process thats simple and fast to get through. Once your in your presented with one of the best laid out admin panels your likely to encounter. You can install a host of additional apps from the control panel eg. Plex which allows for full 1080p transcoding and streaming to any device. I primarily use the readynas as a media server so for me plex put a host of other devices out of work.

Stylish, convenient and excellent performance. Great i used it often these are perfect, you don’t need a plug in. Nice ,affordable case,i’ll buy again my daughter will love it.Just wanted i was hoping for and more.

It’s a screw-less system to put the drives in so a few minutes at best, nice and simple. I must start by saying i received this nas free as part of the netgear friends and family program but my review is based upon my own experience of setting up and using this device. This was a disk-less unit so i purchased 4 x wd red 2tb nas drives to populate it. It’s a screw-less system to put the drives in so a few minutes at best, nice and simple. Set-up of the nas comes with readycloud which was particularly easy, i just plugged the nas into my router and browsed to [. to create an account, discover and set-up my nas. Once set-up on-line via readycloud i was able to jump straight from there via a click to the management page of the nas itself, from here i could get to a more granular management page of the system. You do get more options in terms of settings on the nas when on the direct management page, but readycloud is good for quick set-up and great for accessing your files or sharing them. I have a mix devices, windows, android, ios, mac os but the nas supports protocols for access that all seem to understand. Smb for windows/android and afp for mac/ios seem to do the job. ]

Very nice piece of equipments. It has solved all of my file sharing problems. Will be getting another soon.

Music supplied to different players in house simultaneously and reliably.

NETGEAR ReadyNAS 212 2-Bay Network Attached Storage for Personal Cloud, Diskless (RN21200-100NES) : Some problems to connect my samsung tv.

Works great have recently become a netgear fan used to hate their products but they have come along way.

Simple to get up and running, simple to set up personal cloud and access from phone etc ehen away from home. I added 12tb of storage in a raid 5. If you have a netgear swich you can bond the two ethernet ports, even with a normal switch/hub you can still use both to improve load balancing. Not too keen ont he documetnation for backups using rsync, most is for an older version of the operating system. You do need to make sure you get the latest firmware updates. For the hardcore users you can enable ssh root access and that gives you the full power of the linux distribution on which it runs. I have two in separate building, one backing up the other, one running subversion and mysql and the other offiering a web service too – you can do all that just picking apps off the menus. I have all my music, videos etc on it and dlna to tv, hifi etc. My main use is to hold my photographic works and that runs to a few tb.

Works great have recently become a netgear fan used to hate their products but they have come along way.

Stylish, convenient and excellent performance. Great i used it often these are perfect, you don’t need a plug in. Nice ,affordable case,i’ll buy again my daughter will love it.Just wanted i was hoping for and more.

Excellent nas for office or media. Good performing nas for the office. Also works well as a plex server, transcoding well without the stuttering found on lesser-powered servers.

Dune hd tv-102 media streamer. The lack of any kind of review prompted me to write this one. First of all the box is small and light (approx 3 x 2 x 1 inch) and runs very cool. Mine arrived without the specified hdmi cable so i had to go out and buy one to test (and yes it’s described as having one). The instructions/ manual useless (just says connect up and switch on -great). After set up (straightforward) presents menus games, applications, sources, favorites, setup, dune store, tv, video, music& radio, news and weather, social networks. Select sources and my options were network browser or usb storage (for attached hard drive). Select network browser options smb or upnp. Select smb , workgroup, nas name, and gives smb shares, select video and you see all your network files to play. I should mention at this point that although the remote control is large and good quality/ clear it’s a bit clunky requiring sometimes 2 or 3 presses to take action.

Living in spain we have just lost bbc and itv channels due to satellite change. This little black box means i can receive all the channels and more through internet. I expect this company will be very busy over the next few months.

NETGEAR RN10221D-100EUS ReadyNAS 102 2 Bay Personal Cloud Network Attached Storage – A small product with a big punch!

Does what it says on the tin. I paid three times more money for a bigger and supposedly better nas which had major issues. It was returned and i opted for the readynas 102. It performs perfectly and i’ve had no issues at all. The only negative is it could have better apps for it however it streams video perfectly to my smart tv’s and tablet therefore no real complaints.

A small product with a big punch. Before i start this review i must state that i received this device via the ‘friends and family’ program from netgear free of charge, although i have no affiliation with netgear myself. I have been using a previous generation of the netgear readynas range which i was mostly happy with, it kept my data safe and allowed me to access the nas around my house. There were two downfalls to me the first was that i didnt have a decent way to access the nas when i was away from home and the second was the transfer speed to this nas was slow. I received the readynas 102n i had read good things about it and had seen that it had the cloud access i wanted so this interested me as i am away from home a fair amount. On receiving, i unboxed, to find a smaller but more solid nas drive. The readynas i have only has one drive in it so i added a second drive, there was no need to any screwdrivers as the drive clips into the holder which i thought was a great idea. I connected it and powered it up and instantly noticed how quiet it was compared to my previous nas after using raidar i then went to the address and configured, i was up and running in minutes with no issues. The actual screens to set up and manage the nas are very intuitive and unlike my old nas didn’t have me tearing out what hair i have left on my head.I joined and set up the readycloud access as well and was then ready to transfer my first files across the network.

After amazon resent me another one through because of orders getting confused (originally got sent a first aid box) i have found it is very nice a good piece of technology to work with can remotely access it anywhere in the world generally easy to use. I did spend a while setting it up the first time as i have never used a nas before but after i had mastered all of the controls it was very simple and easy.

Great for back up, good for streaming. The readynas 102 is a nice looking unit and was easy to set up and i was soon backing up my files without any issues. 0 to back up files to external hdds i didn’t find the transfer speeds of this system a problem at all, but i guess some people may be used to faster data transfer. Further backing up to the readycloud isn’t something i’d ever done the equivalent of before, but this too was a breeze and is clearly very handy for a back up system. Other than the back up aspect, the main reason i wanted this for was the streaming aspect so this is the other feature i’ve tried and have so far successfully streamed various audio and video files to two tvs and 2 mobile devices so overall i’m very happy. I have had slight trouble streaming some higher quality video but i’m not sure that’s the fault of the readynas, i’m assuming it’s more of a wifi speed issue. I’m sure at some point i’ll be needing larger hdds but again, that’s hardly the fault of the readynas. *slight update* having started to use the app for remotely accessing files i’ve found this a very handy feature.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • An amazing product! I have discover new things to use it for each day!
  • First NAS – Happy so farupdated
  • Pretty straightforward

Sophisticated and easy to use. Firstly i think i should mention my degree of expertise at installing it related items. Frankly not a lot, although i am prepared to research and persevere – i have had failures particularly with routers before where, despite technical help i never succeeded. I have used a similar sort of device to this in the past, and it did take quite an effort to get going although perseverance paid off. However, the nas102 was an absolute dream to set up. Plugged it into the router and turned it on, then went to the readycloud website, which discovered it straight away, and set up an account. From there on it was just plain sailing as the nas102 was recognised as a network resource and i was able to drag files into the storage system. The device i was testing came complete with 2tb of storage, but can be upgraded to 8tb should one ever need it. It is quite clear that this is a very sophisticated and versatile box with a lot of inbuilt protection. Five different types of file protection are included such as snapshotting on demand, files written over multiple drives and antivirus software in real time and clearly a lot of thought has gone into making it an adequate resource for small business use as well as for the home.

Genrally impressed with performance and ease of setup. I have used several nas products over the years and i would say this is the quickest to setup and you don’t even have to install any software on your computer to get it up and running. This version comes complete with 2x1tb drives and as the unit has some increased data protection by storing your data on two drives you only get 1tb of free space. Of course, the device hardware could fail, unit be stolen so don’t rely on one of these or any other similar product to keep your data 100% safe. Always keep one or more copies of vital data on another device as a minimum. Just plug the unit to a network port on your home network with the provided network cable (yellow) and then connect the power unit. Press the top button to power it on and wait for the top light to stop flashing. Once this is done using a computer connected to the same home network you just have to go to http://readycloud. Comjust then click on discover and it should find your new nas. Then click on setup and to confirm you have access to the nas you have to press the backup button the front of the unit (the lower button on this model). Click on next when prompted. It is then a matter of creating an online account to register the device and also used for remote access from another location other via web interface or application on ios or android. You get to give your device a name which it will use on your home network and your online list of devices (you can have several).

Having looked at a number of nas devices from the likes of synology and qnap, i decided to purchase the readynas from netgear. The primary reason was the fact that the performance and features seemed to match what i wanted in a product – easy of use; easy to set up; good warranty; and a trusted brand. The setup was very easy, with the wizard guiding you through every step, from setting up the products and getting the best out of the features that it support. It seems pretty quick at the moment, but i only have photo’s and my music on it. I am going to be using it as my itunes store and dump thousands of photo’s onto it, so the auto back up looks a good feature, and i will probably subscribe to readycloud soon. This product wasn’t the cheapest out there – i looked at qnap and synology, but i haven’t really heard too much of these people. Netgear is a brand that i trust and use there powerline and wifi routers in the past. I know there support is good as i have used it before. I think the few ££ difference in price is worth it for the features that the netgear box has, and the support and warranty that is offered.

This review is probably going to be updated over time, as i become more & more familiar with the unit – i picked it up in-store on september 1, and so far i like what i see. First – a word of advice – do not buy the diskless version if you’re not willing to fiddle with boot menus, etc. – get one with the disks pre-installed. Having said that – if you did buy a diskless version and install two brand new disks, setting it up is a breeze, put the disks in (you don’t even need a screwdriver), plug it in, turn it on, go to readycloud. Com, click on discover, and you’re good to go. If you have a couple of disks you want to reuse, i suggest you delete any partitions and data that may exist, or you’ll have to use the boot menu to get anywhere. Right now i have a pair of small disks (only 80gb) installed and i’m going to use these to familiarize myself with readynas os6 – this is my first readynas, but not my first nas and i’ve learned that low cost *nix based nas appliances don’t always work the way you think they should. Like the title says, so far i am loving it, as low cost nas appliances go, it has a full feature set, so far i have only used the backup feature, it did a reasonable job, more tests to follow.

Nice bit of hardware, but the software and support lacks a lot. Pros:1) this device is small. It is about the size of two 0. It has a huge fan in the back, which is run different speed according to the requirements. I have never managed to get it over 1000rpm and the usual is 700rpm (all this is displayed on the dashboard). At those levels it makes very little noise. 3) works perfectly well with apple afp and time machine. The main reasons i have purchased this device. 4) it works out of the box with external usb storage devices. They can be access through a different share (folder). Cons:1) the setup process is painful and complicated. Especially if you reusing some disks. Better have an interest in computing, otherwise it can be really painful to get this up and running.

Pretty good, larger capacity device should be considered. It arrived with 1tb of total storage in a mirrored disk array (raid 1). I setup the device quite easily from the cd instructions that came with the device via an xubuntu laptop. As i am using it in a domestic setting as opposed to a business setting i reformatted it to give 2tb storage (raid 0) in a striped array. This was done quite easily through the web interface. I enabled many of the network protocols available including afp, smb. , ftp, rsync, upnp, readydlna etc. The apple timemachine backup capability was seamless to setup and my home now has 2 macs backing up to the readynas on a regular basis. I also made a media folder on the device and populated it with various movies, tv shows and music that previously resided on an external hard drive attached to one of my macs. This folder was immediately visible and usable through xbmc (xbox media centre) on a mac attached to my tv via the smb protocol.

The unit comes nicely and securely packaged with everything you need to get. I received this item as part of the netgear friends and family programid not consider myself an it techie at all and am always sceptical of the complexity of working with it product so ive been very pleasantly surprised by the ease of use of this unit so far in setting it up and completing some basic tasks. The unit comes nicely and securely packaged with everything you need to get started, simply plug it in, connect to your router and follow the instructions that come with it which i found very simple. The unit feels solid and well put together was set up within minutes and ive also downloaded the readycloud app from the app store for my iphone and for my windows 8. 1 laptop, both very easy to do and pretty simple to use. Was up and running within minutes and have some sizable drag and drop data dumps which have been completed with no fuss and in pretty decent time. Its also pretty silent, my seagate unit can make a bit of a racket. Have also found the streaming very easy, my tv has picked up the unit and am already playing tunes, video and pictures from the box to my tv. This unit comes with a ton of features, way more than i will ever use but when you consider the price you get a ton of storage and a lot of functionality. The most useful features to me as a basic user would be the media anywhere and media streaming functionality, the raid protection as i have a lot of music and pictures now on this box.

My overall experience with 102 has been brilliant. Its fairly straight forward despite the device not. My overall experience with 102 has been brilliant. Its fairly straight forward despite the device not really coming with instructions of how to insert the discs into the trays, so watch out for this as the runners are only plastic and could be snapped really easily but that said once that was all done it smooth sailing really. The transfer rate has been great and i’ve now rigged up everything so i’m working purely on the nas and v few files stored locally – this took a bit of working out but got there in the end. Works as a nice central hub so when i’m working on a document others see those reflected with 10 seconds of me saving the document. The indexing is worth the wait too. Once a file has been uploaded it likes to index it. This was taking forever because of the shear volume but once its dome, it beautifully regulates itself from then on. One thing i have found is it only lets you back up and sync 10 files.

The air mouse wowed me as much as the g-box. The air mouse wowed me as much as the g-box. I pointed it to the screen then moved it and the arrow onscreen moved accordingly (you don’t have to use it but it’s brilliant). Prior to this box i already had the wd device (ie the early incarnation with built in hard drive). The g-box is capable of everything that device can do (if you plug in a separate hard drive) but this box comes into its own for watching streaming channels. It does require a bit of technical knowhow so don’t go giving it as a present to non-techies unless you’ve set it up for them. You’ll also benefit if you know how to use one of the apps – kodi already. Highly recommended piece of kit for discovering the world of internet tv. Also is a superb add-on for tv’s that aren’t smart enough to allow you to install apps, but this box packs more punch than the best of smart tvs out there anyway with its fast processor.

NETGEAR RN31221D-100EUS ReadyNAS 312 2 Bay Personal Cloud Network Attached Storage : Netgear ReadyNAS 312

Not a great start but i might have been unlucky. Not the best experiene initially because the first one i received died on its first night. I had set it up with 2 brand new disks as a raid1, installed transmission and plex, copied a large number of photographs accross the network, set up email alerting for things like temperature and disk failures and kicked off a time machine backup which was progressing happily. Woke up in the morning and the box had no power. Tried using a different power cable and wall socket, still no power. Amazon sent me a replacement readynas and i repeated everything above. It has been running for a week now with no issues but i need more time to build up my confidence in the product. To this end i am backing the nas up as regularly as i can because i’m worried about it failing again. On the plus side, the fact that i could set it up as i did above within around an hour was great.

Best 2-bay nas on the market. .Best 2-bay nas on the market.

So i bought this to replace my ageing iomega home media nas. First impression are really good. It was incredibly easy to setup, the os6 is very simple although has a problem with google chrome until the os is updated to 6. The x-raid is a great feature making for easy drive expansion for a novice of raid functions. The cloud feature and apple time machine features are also a big win. It has a number of apps including plex media server and built in anti-virus. Now the reason for the 3 starts is due to the readynas performance. When using pms it only supports upto 480p, and installing apps other than the ones from the app store is very difficult if you don’t know linux command line. The dlna is ok, my bose soundtouch dosen’t even see the readynas, streaming to my laptop (wifi) and pc (1gb ethernet) is very patchy, the movies stutter but do not buffer. My previous nas had no issues on the dlna side of things. So after a great beginning and lots of promise it looks as though the readynas is going to be returned and the synology ds214play is going to get a look in.

Great hardware, excellent value. Compare the hardware specs of this to any similarly priced nas and you will see this is a very powerful machine. Performance is superb with great file transfer speeds. This is not just a nas however, it can do all kinds of things with many apps available. One of my favourites is plex where this is a central hub to a home cinema system. All you need to add is a samsung smart tv or bluray player with the plex app. It is surprisingly small and very quiet which means it can be placed almost anywhere without being distracting.

I have several of these and use them in work.

Easy to set up and easy to integrate into other network media players. I have experience of using other nas products so like to think i have an understanding of the functionality that is available and how good this nas is. The set up of the readynas was very simple. The cloud software searched my network for the nas but could not find it at first. At that time i was concerned i was going to need some deep networking skills (which i don’t have). Netgear have thought of this issue and the install app offered/suggested i install its raidar utility. This i did and it found the nas straight away. Once recognised i was able to start setting up my family as users and organise my data and backup of the various family devices. Using my external hard drive backup system i was able to transfer my considerable collection of music and movies to the nas. Being dlna compliant my tv and amplifiers on the network were able to recognise the netgear readynas 312.

A very useful device to have on the home network. I have to confess that it was set up for me by a hi-fi expert, but it now doubles as a store for my music collection and an ever increasing photo collection.

This two bay device from netgear is a fantastic introduction to the world of network attached storage (nas) for me. I have two 2t drives stored in there and am very impressed by the speed of the access from the processor and the ease of use and set up from taking it out of the box. I am always impressed by anything i get from netgear, they always make good quality products.

Easy to set-up once you know the tricks. The acquistion of the readynas 312 is a personal double-first; it is the first netgear storage device that i have actually come to use and it is also the first nas device that i have configured for my personal use. There is a list of recommended and compatible hard drive units that is available on-line from netgear. Most nas drives and a few others are compatible, currently up to 4tb each if you can find them; 3tb drives are more readily available and far less expensive. The enclosure offers 2 usb 3. 0 ports at the rear and a usb 2. 0 port at the front which can be used for expansion and also an e-sata port also at the rear for the same purpose although fewer pcs and laptops continue to offer e-sata although it may sometimes be an add-on option. There is also a second ethernet port for optional connection to a second network, which may be more applicable to some workplace situations than to the home user. There are companion 4- and 6-bay versions for the more serious, and wealthy owner although you need not utilise all available bays from the outset as netgear’s proprietory raid structure intelligently self-configures when drives are added. The readynas is, in this instance, supplied as a bare-bones enclosure although there are options with partial or full occupancy although limited to certain drive units and capacities.

Works fine and a big improvement on my old readynas. Works as advertised, much better than my old readynas duo v1. Sometimes things take a while to figure out but otherwise excellent.
