Denon CEOL Piccolo Network Music Receiver – The sound is good until you go loud the the speakers sound a

They may not actually make them like they used too. . I was very happy with this system, up until i plugged in my 15 year old sony system and heard the difference in sound quality. It’s a great bit of tech, but sound wise it’s not a patch on my old system.

They are delighted with the simplicity of operation through the app and. I’ve recently installed this for friends of mine. They are delighted with the simplicity of operation through the app and the remote control. It is a flexible unit since it supports air play, spotify (although the interface for this is not as good as on other devices), streaming radio (of which the bbc is the most annoyingly inconsistent provider). Then you have inputs for rca phono and digital (optical). Outputs support a single pair of speakers, headphones and a sub-woofer (not tested). Connection to the internet can be wired (i recommend this) or wireless. Sound quality through modest speakers in a small room is clear deep and lively. Playing the device through large speakers in a large lounge gives an equally pleasurable experience.

Great little music streaming unit. . Setup was easy and the unit is nice and compact ( white looks great too compared to the black slabs out there ). Paired with a couple of ceiling speakers ( cambridge audio 155 ) and sounds very good. So far tried internet radio, bluetooth and airdrop/airplay streaming which all work well. As others have mentioned you should turn off ‘speaker optimization’ if you are not using the denon speakers. Also run the firmware updates to ensure that early release bugs are resolved.

Good value but has problems. Good for the money but the available android phone app is slow and ‘buggy’ also won’t receive certain radio station’s i presume due to location restrictions eg can’t get 5live sports extra i presume it’s coming via vtuner so check you can get the stations you want before you buy.

The sound is good until you go loud the the speakers sound a. Well packaged and arrived the next day. With just a brief set up guide the main one on line to download it was difficult to play music from my ipod. The sound is good until you go loud the the speakers sound a bit bass less. All in all i am pleased an upgrade on speakers would make it a great system plus a full manual.

Great device, listen to it all the time. After the initial fun of doing a firmware update, i have found that this device works like a charm, link it with spotify and some good speakers and the world of music is literally at your fingertips. I have spent hours and hours listening to this. I will say that you really do need to have it linked up to some form of tablet or smart phone to get the best out of it as using the remote is a little clunky.

I have had this bit of kit for a month now, and really like it. I’m quite techy, so the ability to combine denon h-fi quality with a dlna music server was always my goal, the biggest bonus was though the ability to hook it up to speakers of my own choice, and the option to have a sub also if required. Setup took seconds and with a network reservation set it has been totally stable on my home network. I have it connected to a set of q accustics 2020i bookshelf speakers and a 60w rms active sub woofer, with a bit of crossover fine tuning on the sub the results a very good. The 2020i speakers seem a good match and the finest details are reproduced with ease, i used 42 strand speaker cable and am very happy with the results. I had read that the unit comes with an eq bias set for the denon speakers recommended for it, and so the first thing i did was switch this setting off. It sometimes does take slightly longer than normal to load up a track when working its way through long playlists, but this is minor, and prob more to do with network traffic and less to do with the denon dra n4. I don’t and won’t ever use it over wi-fi as this option / bandwidth is very crowded these days, ethernet cable only for me.

This is a great product and has fitted into my macos airplay enabled music network seamlessly. Its sound quality and ‘fairly’ ease of use has met all i had expected from it. So, why 4 instead of 5 stars?.This is simply because of the firmware update process. The instructions in the manual about how to achieve this were beyond understanding, it was only after i disregarded all i had read and just did it that i discovered it was, actually, a simple process and one i could have achieved quite easily on day one. Simplify your manual denon, please.

I’ve had one of these for six months now, took me ages to make a decision what to buy, so i felt it would be useful to others to let you know how it’s going. I wanted sounds in the kitchen, all our music comes from either the radio or apple music, sold all my cds ages ago and binned the old tapes even longer ago. We wanted something discreet, good looking, easy to use, and that fitted in with the kitchen. Physically its a small compact unit, heavy and feels well made, and we also got the matching denon speakers (not from amazon i should say). It needs to be connected to your home network and the internet, we initially had reliability issues with the wifi which does seem to be a denon issue as all the multitude of other wireless devices we use have been fine. After some messing about i bought a cheap tplink power-line pair from amazon and connected the denon with wired ethernet, it has been rock solid since then. It did a lot of software upgrades on first powering up, and occasionally since then as new ones are released. In use we have really grown to love it, sound quality is excellent, and it can be really loud without any distortion in our reasonably large kitchen. We have it positioned up on the top of the fridge, out of the way which gives good sound.

Mini hifi grade internet radio receiver. Wanted to get something which was nice and compact for a secondary hi-fi set-up. I wanted something better looking, better sounding and simpler to use than an existing blue tooth speaker and android tablet combination. The denon n4 looked a good option for the money. I did not need cd as i have a media server which the denon could play music from. Internet radio provides access to all stations that are on fm or dab. It will also play from usb, blue tooth or a line level analogue feed i. The 40 watts rms per channel is plenty.

Brilliant i had the first generation this is just so much better.

    1. For the money this is an outstanding bit of equipment. Easy to set up, versatile, and works well enough with most sources. Any gaps (currently it seems to have difficulty with the file system when streaming from a usb source) can be bridged using the denon app or airplay. Sound is really good for the money, but note that if you’re using different speakers you have to change a default setting that optimises the output for the dedicated denon speakers. Without doing that the sound is really quite disappointing and totally lacking in presence. You really have to go and look for the setting too, so if you don’t happen to chance across it (who reads a manual cover to cover?) i can understand why some people might find the sound quality poor. Easy to fix though, mine sounds great now.
