Lenco L-90 Walnut Veneer Turntable – I am so pleased with it

My first turntable since by connoisseur bd1/ sme 3009 bit the dust. This isn’t in the same league, being semi automatic but having listened to my old vinyl, i’d say buy iti considered all the modern minimalist ‘highly recommended’ ones but apart from still not (yet) getting the computer download to work. Hence the 4 star marking, i’m very satisfied. It does exactly what it says. If your an old audiophile who’s idea of heaven is a linn or better, then ‘walk on by’ but if like me, you want to dip you toes into vinyl, you’ll not regret it.

After packing my vinyl away many years ago after my kids wrote off one too many stylus and tone arms, and going on to collect hundreds of cd’s and an ipod, i suddenly felt the urge to play records again. The who, the jam, the kinks, the pistols have all now come out of their boxes. It’s amazing how different they sound after getting conditioned to cd’s and ipods over the last twenty five years, somehow they sound much better, or am i just being an old fart?.Anyway, this record deck not only sounds brilliant, it looks good too – which made it a little more acceptable to the wife when it magically appeared in the dining room the other day. Seriously, this is a great piece of kit, it plugs into the amp aux and off it goes – m m my generation.

Convert your vinyl collection. Currently, there are quite a number of record players out there which not only play vinyl discs (via your stereo), but also provide built-in digital conversion. I choose this one because it has a wood finish which looks better that the cheap silver plastic used on other brands and leaves out the cd slot & radio which create too many design compromises. When connected to a laptop via usb, the player creates mp3 files suitable for pcs or digital music players. The two important additions not found in conventional turntables are: the pre-amp, which boosts and equalises the weak signal from the stylus cartridge and the digital converter which converts the analogue signal into a digital bitstream. Unfortunately this group of turntables seem to be very much budget quality, and barely qualify as hi-fi. If you need the highest quality noise-free conversion then you should probably look elsewhere. Setup is a bid fiddly, but relatively quick. Anyone unfamiliar with turntable setup should note that the tone-arm and especially the cartridge are delicate items which you can easily damage with careless handling. I recommend that you keep the stylus guard on until you have completely finished assembly. Here are the specifications for the Lenco L-90 Walnut Veneer Turntable:

Well engineered and good-looking usb turntable. I’ve owned the l-90 for about a year now, following a recommendation on the bleep (warp records) website that made it look pretty cool. I had been after a decent, cheap-ish turntable with usb conversion for a while but the problem with low-end models i’d owned previously was that the tracking was very poor. I own a lot of quirky us vinyl pressings of techno records so i really needed something that was capable of playing anything that a technics sl1210 can play – and i’m happy to report that it does the job. Setup: the l-90 is easy to set up although as it is a quasi-audiophile product it does require some assembly but the instructions are very clear on this. Use: the l-90 plays just about anything – inside out pressings, off-centre pressings, records with tracks cut very near to the label, warped records. A real bugbear of mine with non-audiophile turntables is the auto-return function which kicks in too early and doesn’t let you put the needle on the record near the centre of an lp and can’t be disabled. Fortunately then the l-90 doesn’t have this – it does have a quirky auto-stop to save the needle (for anyone with a non auto-stop turntable e. The sl1210 who’s ever fallen asleep before the record ends) which works fine (but is a bit odd – you’ll see what i mean if you buy this) and can be disabled anyway.

Good prompt delivery set up instructions not totally clear but easy enough.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • I am so pleased with it
  • Does the job nicely
  • Doesn’t come with UK plug

Feels solid and well made, however, it doesn’t come with a uk plug fitted – only reason it got 4 stars not 5.

Well i’m no aficionado on hifi equipment but for me this (so fare) has done everything i requiredof it, simple to put together and was playing my rumours album within 10mins. It looks great and soundgreta toogiven my vinyls a new lease of life and prompted me to purchase 2 new ones over the weekend.

I have decks costing thousands. I only bought this to check out digitising lps from vinyl. This is the best packed and easiest to setup since the pioneer pl12d classic years ago well done excellent value for money. I have thorens 125 , systemdeck, mitchell gyro deck and pl12d , shure v15 etcall expensive & need extensive setting up but the lenco l 90 was so simple and with audacity i was recording 45 year old vinyl to mp3 this being the main reason for purchase – the deck handles the old vinyl well and nice bass response nice recordings so for the price its a steal and looks good too – buy one .

Love this record player – it looks fantastic next to my 40 year old sony amp.

Great looks and great finish. Great looks and great finish. Sound was good – showed up the little niggles of scratches on my lps but that is part of the experiencedidn’t have it for long as i soon upgraded to the next lenco model that fitted in better with the rest of my system – black/silver. Setup was easy, connected to my yamaha av without any issues. I feel as though i needed to be extra careful given the wooden finish as i didn’t want to leave any marks on it. Having the cover was a bonus to keep the dusty away.

  1. Originally bought the crosley keepsake for a retro look and a relatively inexpensive way of getting back into vinyl but was bitterly disappointed – awful warbling sound on all lps, no speed regulation and terrible undulation. We quickly returned it and looked into other options. Thankfully we found thisthe lenco l-90 is nothing short of superb. Beautiful rich sound when played through our creative t40 speakers. No amp needed with lovely retro styling. It does need a bit of set up though and you will need a uk plug adapter (not provided). For anyone considering the crosley, don’t waste your money. For just £30 more than the keepsake and a pair of decent speakers, get the sound that your vinyl collection deserves.

The pattern on the edge of the turntable, is. The pattern on the edge of the turntable , is it to strobe the turntable speeds,if it is where’s the adjustment. Gives the impression that is what it is for.

    1. Took a little while setting up. Took a little while setting up, but my shelves are 100% level so need to adjust arm and anti-skate. Design is wonderfully clean, quite a retro 70’s feel to it, but much classier than those decks going for out and out retro look you see in urban outfitters and the like. Good sound though amp and speakers (be careful not to plug into the phono connectors, it has a pre-amp so will just hugely distort). So nice to hear the warmth of the vinyl sound again, very pleased with this purchase so far, it feels quite solidly made so hopefully it will last a while too.

  5. Not having owned a turntable for years i wasn’t sure what to buy. Having read reviews this one came out fairly well. Excellent sound and looks good too. Busy reliving my old collection now as well as buying new records again. A great bit of kit, highly recommended.

Great product well made and brings things into the digital age. Bought this for both the analogue and digital outputs. Impressed by the build and performance although haven’t tried the digital side as my daughter is in a “vinyl” phase. Just going to start and taking the old vinyl into digital. Well package and easy to assembly.

Took a little time to get the weight set up on the tone arm, but after that it has been fine – feels sturdy and produces a pretty good sound. It is by no means a professional turntable, or one for audiophiles (imo) but if you want to listen to your vinyl records on something that is well priced and looks the part then you need look no further than the lenco l-90. It doesn’t like poor quality vinyl from the 70s (you know which i mean, the really flexible type) as it bounces around a bit, it has otherwise played everything i’ve thrown at it well.
