Having used led tv’s for some time and becoming increasingly frustrated at having to run the panel lottery everytime i bought a new tv i decided to try for an oled. Yes, it is still a risk and you could end up returning 1 or many tv’s if the panel wasn’t up to scratch but the previous samsung tv’s were just awful. They were high end too and i was prepared to pay upwards of 1500 pounds on another inferior panel. Thankfully my oled is near perfect, yest it still has slight uniformity issues but they are only visible on the most grey screens. No dirty screen effect at all. Watching sports, especially football is perfect. Camera pans left to right with no distracting vertical lines. The blacks have blown me away, the colours pop and the tv has a huge amount of settings to get the picture how you like. Love the magic remote and all tv’s should have one(samsung ditched theirs)the only slight down side is the speakers on the tv. They aren’t up to much but i use a soundbar all the time with my tv so they don’t get used. Oled is a risk, there are many stories of image retention and burn in. But if you are careful and follow the real advice then you will have no issues. I game on mine too and have had no issues. Remember, if you had a supercar, you would look after it in a certain way to preserve it. Same with premium tv’s and tech. Yes samsung are shouting about micro led. We are at least a couple of years away from that tech being affordable and scalable for the consumer market, so for now.
This tv is capable of such beauty. Just be prepared to accept that some sources let you down and not so much the tv. Was really happy with how good hd tv channels looked. Many other things do look wonderful. Unfortunately, it will show-up poorly encoded source material. Dark scenes in game of thrones, streamed from amazon, had terrible gradation/posterisation. Vikings on the other hand appeared flawless. So, it’s not all because of streaming. Will hazard a guess got used h.
The best value for money oled of 2018. Every single video and even audio codec is supported straight from tv for all of your clandestine mkv activities , decent builtin sound(ideally get a soundbar), timeless design. A7 processor is just as good as a9 on pricier models, not worth the extra. Webos is the rollsroyce of smartv oses, clean, fast and agile. Excellent connectivity, 3 full fat hdmi ports, bluetooth, screenshare, nas, usb, wifi(n,ac), only thing is missing – the kitchen sink. The motion part is resolved via dejudder and deblur motions, avforums has comprehensive forum support for this tv, so i wouldn’t pay too much attention to the review that claims its unfixable or unbearable, thats just fakenews. Panasonic and sony models still use the same lg made panel, hence lg can kill it on pricing.
I bought this lg oled55b8slc recently to replace a 10 year old 40″ samsung led tv. I have not been disappointed by my purchase. Just needed a few small tweaks in the settings to get rid of the soap opera effect and i am still amazed by the stunning picture. 4k hdr source content looks fantastic and it upscaled hd and sd content extremely well. The sound is acceptable but i use a sound bar anyway and have not experienced lip sync issues. This tv is much brighter than my aging led that it replaced on its defaults and you can get it brighter if needed in a bright room. I would highly recommend this product as i don’t think it’s worth paying the extra for the c8 model.
Features of LG OLED65B8SLC 65-Inch Premium 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart OLED TV and LG SK5 Soundbar
Organic self emitting pixels achieve the deepest levels of black due to their distinctive ability to completely switch off –
For an ” entry level ” oled this tv has amazing picture quality when viewing 4k hdr video’s. Some midrange lcd/led tvs are the price of this oled tv with inferior picture quality. The b8 has four full fat 4k hdmi ports, supports dolby visiob, dolby atmos and hdr 10. To get the best out of this tv you will need to feed it 4k hdr content which thankfully is increasing day by day. Xbox one x with enhanced 4k hdr games looks jaw droppingly good on this tv. Out of the box the tv is already well calibrated but i would advise to get the tv professionally calibrated to get the best out of this tv set. As with any oled burn in is a risk especially with watching channels with static logos such as bbc news, sky news etc. There’s plenty of guides on the internet on how to avoid burn in. I would definitely recommend this tv as with any oled tvs they have the best picture quality, infinte contrast, deep blacks, wide viewing angles and excellent picture settings out of the box. At £1199 this is the best tv you can buy at the price believe me no lcd or led tv comes close.
This lg oled tv is a really impressive and advanced television which has 4k hdr oled picture, hdr colour-scape and 4k uhd resolution which provides colour rich and real life like picture and video playback. This lg oled tv supports multiple hdr formats including dolby vision and the 4k ultra high definition 65” screen has four times more number of pixels than standard 1080p full hd tvs. Oled pixels are also self-lighting and can switch on and off individually for more advanced and enhanced picture quality and the fast response speeds of oled pixels ensures video playback is free from blur even from high octane movies or sports. This tv has built in dolby atmos sound technology and the sound quality is really nice and immersive. The sound enthusiast may want a external sound bar to enhance their listening experience. The webos smart platform allows you to stream content from apps such as prime, sky movies or sports, youtube netflix and more. The smart platform is easy to use and performs well once connected to a stable and reliable internet connection. Dolby atmos sound: fully immersive dolby atmos places sound within three dimensions for a stunningly enveloping soundscape, it’s the full cinema experience. Thinq ai: is a voice activated voice interaction platform. Thinq ai can , think, listen and respond to questions it is asked.

I hope this helps others getting, like me, extremely stressed with worry about screen burn on lg oled tvs. Although lg make the oled panels for all manufacturers, i can only detail my phone call with lg today. I spoke with a lady called chelsea in lg customer services who consulted with her technical team manager to provide guidance. I made clear that i am someone who watches sky news during the day – i am a news person ()on-line there are many horror stories about people who have purchased lg oled sets to be left with screen burn caused by watching sky news and other news channels. This is caused because the news channels put static logos and ticker tapes on the screens. When they are red, as is the case with sky news, the view on-line seems to be that that is particularly bad news. If sky read this – could you move the logos around a bit as it will help peoplei first called curry’s who advised that if i watch sky news i should not buy an lg oled. Curry’s said lg will not honour the warranty. They said only panasonic honours warranties for screen burn, and only once. Chelsea, after consulting her technical support expert, said the following:”it is perfectly reasonable to watch sky news for a few hours every day. “however, you should “not watch it for 12 hours. “i”f you switch between news channels every few hours it will be ok. “you “should every 9 hours run a pixel refresh. “i”as long as you do this if something does go wrong lg will not leave you with a tv with screen burn and will help.
Its definitely my flat’s main attraction. Amazing quality in sound, picture, design. Of course, if i could have spent a bit less, it would have been even better but otherwise, no complains.
Great tv, sounds good enough for standard users.
OLED pixels create an astonishingly accurate and wide colour range which is presented on the ideal black background only available from self emitting pixels
I worked for an electronics retailer for a number of years but this is miles better than the top of the line product from 4 years ago and not at top of the line prices. I compared the various tvs at different price points from the different manufacturers and thought this really game out ahead. Out of the box the colour settings and motion are way over the top but there are some great guides online that help you calibrate and once you do the thing shines.
If you want an oled tv you could do a lot worse than the b8 from lg. I was concerned my wife was going to flip at the size of this thing (55″ is the smallest option) and i must admit a few eyebrows were raised when i was setting up. However when i fired this thing up the reaction to the picture quality was priceless. The lg artshow app is particularly impressivei’ve never spent this much on a tv before and i know £1000+ is a lot to ask but i am just enjoying this tv so much it brings so much depth and immersion to movies, ps4 games have a richness of colour to them and the lg software is fast and responsive with one of the best ui’s i’ve seen on a smart tv. Set up and configuration is easy, agreed with one reviewer here that switching off interpolation (lg trumotion) helps retain the film makers original picture, during movies, but having it switched on for live sports smooths out the action nicely. Furthermore i have not suffered any issues with micro-stutter as mentioned by the same reviewer. In short, since the substantial price drop this tv is great value and delivers on every level. If you can justify the price tag you will not be disappointed.
Bought to replace our sony smart hd tv which we have had for about four years. Good service, arrived promptly well packaged and easy to set up. I bought this as an improvement on the 42″ (at about three times the price). Firstly i am pleased with the size and quality of the tv but as far as a great improvement on picture quality i’m not sure. To me it is as good and sometimes better but mostly i don’t notice any difference. Perhaps i am not as attuned as i thought i would be but at three times the price of the old one, is it worth it. Perhaps, when i’ve looked at the book thoroughly i may have a different view. I may be missing something or perhaps i am just a philistine when it cones to these things. Sound quality is good, no real need for a sound box unless. Watched a dvd last night and the sound was good.
LG TV can recognise major High Dynamic Range formats such as HLG, HDR 10, Dolby Vision and Technicolor
Perfect picture and sound quality. Nothing to complain overall.
High quality and powerful speaker system.
