Little Dot I+ 6JI X2 Tube standard Hybrid Headphone Tube Amplifier [Electronics] – This has been replace and the sound is very good, particularly given the price

Great with sennheiser 650. . I brought this for my sennheiser 650 headphones. Listened for years plugged straight into solid state arcam alpha 9 power amp. I wanted to try the valve sound and have a smaller setup as i travel a lot. I was worried it wouldn’t have the power after reading countless reviews. It has transformed the listening experience. The set-up with the stock tubes was very impressive as it is. I upgraded to the mullards m8100, out of interest. The soundstage is immersive and emotional.

Added excellent depth when listening through my akg k702 headphones. Added excellent depth when listening through my akg k702 headphones. I use this for fine tuning home recordings with the headphones.

My brother gave me one of these for christmas and its gorgeous. I’m still burning in the valves but so far thr sound is crisp and powerful. The amp came well packed with the valves secured in the foam wrapping but the manual could be a little more expansive, especially if you want to get to the jumpers. And it looks great next to my fatman valve amp. Here are the specifications for the Little Dot I+ 6JI X2 Tube standard Hybrid Headphone Tube Amplifier [Electronics]:

Wow just simply wow im in shock this is fantastic. Let me start by saying that i really love my audio and have a vast music collection on both cd and vinyl. I dont download much although i do use spotify for when im on the move. I wanted to add a headphone socket to one of my linn amplifiers. I was serching for the best route to go and considered a few solid state options from both chord and project. I have heard so much about classic valve amps and how they add detail and warmth to your music. I had never heard of little dot and dont normally take a gamble especially consider the unit was so cheap as well as considering the price of many i would say audiofile amps. Little dot is not as unknown as i initially thought as there as many reviews and discussions about their products online. This is what lead me on this path and im glad i choose to take a gamble and purchase this fantasic amp. The sound is simply amazing.

Good headphone amp, noticeable sound quality improvement over my asus xonar essence stx sound card. Music is more natural and detailed really noticeable with vocals and instruments. – switched tubes to mullard m8100’s, better bass and mids but not a massive improvement over stock tubes. Easily drivers my hifiman he-400i and denon ah-d2000only downside is the packaging is naff, just a brown cardboard box.

  • Great little performer at an excellent price
  • Great with Sennheiser 650.

This is a great headphone amp. This is a interesting little headphone amp made in china, i myself i find the chinese make some great items, the sound is good for the money if you have budget headphones like akg 702 or other £500 headphones this amp is a safe bet, i found the sound very good nice tight bass treble a bit bright, but for less than a £100 you cannot go wrong.

Very nice little piece of kit. Comes with a kettle lead socket in the back, and with a uk 3 pin lead as well. If you don’t get the uk lead then just swap it with the thousands of kettle leads you have accrued over the years from old pc’s, monitors, kettles, rotel receivers etc. If your missis made you chuck them all out 2 weeks before you bought this then deduct the cost of a trip to maplins from her housekeeping + the lead. Seriously, i don’t see the point of wasting time typing about how it didn’t come with on that had a uk plug on it. In the 70’s you had to put on on plug on everything you bought, people these days expect the moon on a stick. I’ve just spent 5 minutes typing, complaining about people who spend 5 minutes typing complaining. It’s a great sounding thing, i listen to lots of d’nb so i ‘rolled over’ – whatever that means – (think it’s a code that audiophiles use for ‘swap’ – just to make them sound intelligent and with it man) to some voskhod ‘toobs’ and i have to say that the ‘toobs’ that i bought off fleabay cost an extra £25 for the pair but the sound difference is incredible. Of course, if you’re more into mellow or classic it’s a good thing to look up the mullards ( cue al murray -great british name,). The instructions for ‘roll overing are very clear regardless of what the redneck on yootoob would have you think, and all you need is a screwdriver and a semi functioning brain to set the switches to your desired configuration. There are folks on here that have asked the question on how the amp comes apart.

Got this for my grado sr325is. Based on reviews everywhere people saying its a good match and the tubes will smooth the sound, not for me. I have tube rolled, changed the opamp and still find it too bright and bass light.

Great amp ready for tube rolling. I listen to flac files and tidal from my pc through a fiio dac and akg k550 or sennheiser hd598 headphones. The sound is great, but i’ve always wanted to try a valve amp. After much research and reading, mainly on head-fi, i settled on the ld 1+ and what a good choice it’s turned out to be. Now that the stock 6ji tubes have burned in it’s time for a review. The sound is definitely warmer than directly through the dac and it effortlessly drives the two sets of headphones which are both low impedance. Bass is powerful enough for me without overwhelming the rest of the music and mids and trebles are clear and detailed and the soundstage is wide with good separation. I’ve now ordered some 408a and mullard tubes and will be tube-rolling to see what difference it makes to the already good stock sound. I may even change the opamp as i’ve read that this too can bring improvements. All round a great headphone amp and at this price it was first choice for me.

It’s a great value for money product. I found it as a huge improvement in comparison to headphone amp builds in marantz cd5001. I’m using this amp with akg k-550 cans and sound is fantastic. Standard chinese tubes are quite good but soundstage is small and bass is bit flat. Nonetheless it’s a good starter. However there’s a lot of tube choice for this amplifier and they can be sourced very cheap if you look good enough. I’ve replaced stock tubes with pair of old soviet military tubes for peanuts price and sound just blew my mind. Matching pairs aren’t that important as you may think as long as they’re nos. To summarize, great little amp with loads of possibilities to upgrade, tube choice will make your head spin and it’s just a start, you can play with transistor op amp as well.

Little dot i+ 6ji x2 tube standard hybrid headphone tube amp. The little dot 1+ is amazing, straight out of the box with the stock chinese 6j1 tubes, it sound far better than the headphone socket on the amplifier or cd player, but then they are a token gesture even on the middle of the road arcam hifi kit i am using. The ld 1+ has a wider sound stage with a warmer sound. I have been reading up on tube rolling and so purchased some mullard ef95 family m8100 tubes and these produce a better bass and sweeter treble with a sound stage that is not only wider but more three dimensional and with more detail. I am currently waiting for delivery of some russian voshkod 6zhp-ev tubes which are superposed to be awesome for their sonic ability. The headphones i am using are the fantastic sennheiser hd650, but then having said all that audio is subject to personal taste, but i think the ld 1+ is a fabulous bit of kit for the money paid.

Great little performer at an excellent price. I’ve taken a few months to get used to this little gem and i am still absolutely delighted with it. I switched the stock valves out for a pair of mullard valves and the sound improved noticeably. I use this amp in my home office between my laptop as the audio source and various different sets of low impedance headphones. So far it has performed beyond all expectations. I would recommend this item to anybody needing a head phone amp for a similar desk-top laptop + headphones set up. You will not be disappointed.

Cannot recommend this little amplifier enough. Superb sound from this headphone amp if you buy please change standard tubes for mullard 8100. Cannot recommend this little amplifier enough, buy and try the best £100 pound you will ever spend works great connected to my primare cd ang akg 702 headphones.

  1. Having asked father christmas for a pair of hifiman he400s headphones this christmas, i thought it was about time i included an option to be able to listen to my main hi-fi (amp doesn’t have headphone socket). I do have the fiio x1 portable player and i have a nudac (think it’s called) connected to my pc upstairs for headphone listening. After much searching and reading i decided that without spending a fortune, this or the mk2 was the way to go, i eventually opted for this version. The unit is of a decent size and weight which is what i wanted as it is sat on a unit next to my turntable so i didn’t want some fiddly little thing, i also want it to be heavy enough to be secure to the surface without the fear of it falling off by an accidental tug on the lead. So, i plug it all in (tubes just pop in easily enough and it’s all good to go) and. . Initially slightly dissapointed listening to flac files through my squeezebox player. The sound is slightly odd, quite thin soundstage, almost a transistor radio quality to it, yet things like backing vocals and certain guitar pieces come at you from the sides. I then tried some vinyl which sounded pretty bad, quite harsh and again very narrow sounding. I left it burning in for a few hours and came back to it and to be fair, flac file sounded a lot fuller to the point where i started enjoying the sound however vinyl still didn’t sound great.

Fantastic little entry to the world of tubes/valves. I don’t give out 5 stars as i normally think there is room for improvement but “for the money” this is without any doubt a 5star. Sq is frankly amazing for the money (even with the standard tubes imo, maybe i got lucky who knows), build quality i would describe as “hefty” and substantial that being said it’s small enough to take up little room on your desk or table or hi-fi wherever it’s placed. This is my first tube/valve amp so i can’t compare it to others but i’ve had lots of other hi-fi amps, recently i’ve been using a fiio dac from my pc but now i’ve gone with a low cost usb dac (due to the fiio just packing up) connected through to the little dot 1+ and couldn’t be happier, i’m sure once i upgrade my dac further down the road it will improve even further. I’ve got new tubes on order and thinking about opamps, and that’s the beauty of this little device it really is a starting platform for further experimentation. I’m surprised little dot doesn’t offer upgrade packages themselves but there’s lots available regardless. I’m using shure se535 which are easy to drive but show up everything, there was a little background noise for the first 20 or so hours but it’s virtually disappeared now, currently i’m on 13% volume low gain and it’s great, cranking it up to 20% and i’d have ringing in my ears. I also have some low cost sens’ hd201, turtle beach recons , shure se215s and it drives these with ease also on low gain. I finally understand the “warmth” people talk about, it’s made the 535s far more musical and i wear these all day 8-10 hours and i’ve found myself zoning out and just listening to the music something i’ve not done for a long time. Currently going through all my old faves and without exception its an improvement over the fiio for similar money.

    1. Good ‘tubey’ sound for a hybrid amp. Amazingly powerful amp for the money, good ‘tubey’ sound for a hybrid amp. Stock tubes once ‘burnt in’ a good few hours are ok but i tried rolling a few others and to my ears the mullard m8100 sound just about right, warm, great bass and mids with good highs opening the sound stage some too. Switched it to low gain from the start and all headphones from 16-250 ohm are driven loud without turning the volume much above half way so i believe the claims it will run 600 ohm without a struggle. My pc has a new asus z170 motherboard but i find the sound cleaner with an external dac, i have been using the dac from my aune x1s, amny decent dac would improve the signal to the amp though. Highly recommended as an introduction to tube amps.

  6. Had to return the amp due to a crackle when turning the volume up at the top end. Shame because i was really looking forward to using it. Everything else seemed solid though.

      1. I really can not recommend this amplifier highly enough. I really can not recommend this amplifier highly enough. I currently have a graham slee novo and a aune tk1 but i bought this little dot with a pair of hifiman he 400s and i have to say i am absolutely blown away by the sound this combo delivers. I have heard some people say that the headphones sound thin but with this amplifier there is absolutely no sign of thin sound at all. The sound stage is as embracing as it is amazing. It just sounds so warm and effortless. I spent less on this amp and the he400s than i spent on my grado rs2e but you would have to literally rip this thing from my grasp. I can remember a time when this amplifier cost an absolute fortune. For £90 odd it’s an absolute no brainer.

. Listening to it through my hd600s via the dac on my aune x1s and it sounds great.
      1. A fantastic little headphone amp. A fantastic little headphone amp, great sound as standard, but easy to make even better with easy to change op-amp and valve upgrades. Highly recommended for grado users (i’m partnering with rs1 classics).
