Nad D 3020 Digital Amplfier / DAC : Compact and well made.

I am just astounded how good the amplifier is in terms of low end definition and overall refinement of sound. You can hear the remarkable ease, openness and neutrality of the sound from any source. The amplifier can play very loud without any sign of distortion, and takes such a strong grip of the speakers which it is driving that room acoustic problems are much less apparent. The amplifier is based on hypex modules sprinkled with some nad magic to give a product that is amazing, transparent with no characteristics to draw your attention.

Great design better size for a small flat, linked with wharfedale diamond 10 and sound very good. Controls and set up was easy and straight forward. Only gripe was the self stick on rubber feet on such a high quality product.

I wanted something a bit more flexible than my 35 year old jvc amp and stumbled across this amp. It meets all expectations for connectivity, price and sound quality. I have played from pc, cd and blue tooth in flac, and 320kps mp3 and i struggle to pick the difference. The bluetooth is particularly good. The unit has the latest aptx blue tooth, paired with a sony phone with aptx blue tooth the sound is a revelation. I would recommend installing drivers on your pc and updating the unit firmware, details can be found in the online manual, not on the quick start up sheet enclosed. Finally there have been comments about the remote only having black on black markings well mine has white on black so i assume nad have been listening. Buy this you wont be dissapointed, it is a fantastic bit of kit for the money.

Excellent sound from this amp, feature wise it’s right up there what with bluetooth streaming and built in dac this is a amp for modern times it seems. Using it with spendor a5 speakers and it sounds great.

NAD D 3020 Digital Amplfier / DAC : Excellent upgrade to my c320bee. Excellent upgrade to my c320bee, i never thought i’d use bluetooth music streaming but it’s so easy with this device. Sits between my pc and tv and is connected to both. Sounds great with some q acoustics 2020i.

Best money i have ever spent. I have been struggling for years to adjust to online music based on my old school understanding of hi fi. I have tried amplifying the crappy signal coming out of various pcs and paying too much for sound cards achieving unsatisfactory results. It wasn’t until the penny finally dropped that you need an external dac and drivers to take over all the sound processing from the pc, and brought this that i have got back the sound quality i used to have years ago with cds and lps. I absolutely love this thing, music has not been off since i got it, i am likely to get another one for my other work station.

Very good piece of equipment that has transformed ny listening experience. . I am not an audiophile, but reached a point where i had got tired of listening to poor sounding music from my squeezebox/music server or pc. I did not really wish to invest massively in many different large shiny boxes and so was looking for a one box solution that could act as a dac and connect to both pc and digitally to the squeezebox. Bluetooth was an added bonus. Other inputs will be used in time, but are not now. My speakers are 30 year old sony speakers which were good in their day but have sat in the garage for the last fifteen years. So i was not expecting whathifi type audiophile sound – just ‘something better /clearer / crisper’so bought the nad 3020d and decided that i would upgrade the speakers once i had dipped my toe in the water. It has surpassed all expectations. Sound quality is (to me) superb.

An enchanting sound quality. I have been enchanted by kef ls50’s for many months and have been looking for a better amp to drive them. I tried out the d3020 at sevenoaks shop on kings road and was blown away buy how good the combination sounded. We were just feeding spotify via sonos connect over toslink so hardly a top notch sourcei now have a d3020, but no chance to hook them up to the ls50’s. Instead they are connected to a pair of canton karat 720. 2, a competent speaker or so i thought. The d3020 makes these discontinued speakers sing. I had never imagined these speakers could sound so good. I am playing 24/96 flac files from a old win xp laptop running foobar connected via usb and the sound is sublime.

Over the years i have been fortunate enough to own several mid range quality hi-fi set-ups, ranging from arcam, cambridge audio, rotel etc with multiple speaker set-ups b&w, monitor audio, kef and likes. All of them were excellent but always seemed to lack something in the sound. Could never pin point what is was and always finding myself in the search of the ultimate set-up for reasonable price. I currently own b&w cm10 which were driven with arcam p38/a38, cambridge audio sm6, arcam cd17. Thought i would buy the nad d3020 for a bedroom set-up but decided to see how they run with the cm10’s. All i can say is wow, balanced and amazing sound. That sparkle that was missing from all of my previous set-ups is now there. For the price i cannot see anything coming close to this unit, so much so that i have powered down my separates and running the nad all the time. Streaming from tidal, the quality is excellent.

Have tried a few other alternatives and finally found this little device.

Excellent open detailed soundscape very natural when partnered with right. Excellent open detailed soundscape very natural when partnered with right equipment. I have noticed that the amplifier is vibration sensitive the sound changed from a disappointing dull sound to a very natural sweet and detailed sound simply by placing the amplifier on a proper hi-fi support shelf. I am currently using the amplifier with a marantz cd 6005 cd player and epos m5 speakers with a van den hull the first interconnect this does not produce a very big bass sound but the mid band and treble more than compensate for this and it will keep the neighbours happy. I listened to a recording of june tabor who i have seen live and it is the first system i have heard which could accurately reproduce her voice.

Perfect partner in crime for my macbook pro. . I am using this with a macbook pro to drive some dali zensor 3 speakers and after the first few weeks i am mightily impressed. I did no demoing and took the plunge based purely on reviews, although it was neck and neck with the marantz pm6005 for quite a while. I opted for the nad in the end because it was far more suited to my needs. I literally have no analogue inputs to connect to an amplifier as all i use is my macbook pro connected via usb and a smart tv connected via a digital optical cable. I had previously been using a pair of audioengine a5+ active speakers with the amplifier built it via an external dac and whilst it sounded fantastic it didn’t feel quite like the old school h-ifi i used to love as a teenager. The nad really does meet this in the middle and everything has a much better feel to it. Also buying this meant i could sell my old dac and negate any price difference between this and the marantz pm6005. In terms of the sound quality i don’t have much of a basis for comparison. I bought this at the same time i bought new speakers so everything is new but what i can say is the difference between this amp and the dali speakers is night and day between the sound i got from the audioengine a5+’s, and they are 5 star award winning speakers.

I needed to downsize my 2nd system so it would fit on a quite narrow bookshelf, as a fan of nad amplification i didn’t have to look far. Bought this tiny funky looking little thing and paired it up with some q acoustics concept 20’s. Fabulous spacious detailed sound with lots of flexibility input – wise. I use tidal as my source primarily bluetoothed from my samsung tab s and i would highly highly recommend one of these.

      1. Outstanding sound and features for the price – buy it now. Update after about a year and a half:so, i’ve had this for about a year and a half now. A few points to update:- turning this on with the remote control doesn’t always work first time – not a deal-breaker by any means, i’ve now got used to just pressing “on” on the remote control twice. – connecting to the d 3020 over bluetooth is hit and miss, especially if the d 3020 is normally on a wired source, like i have. I have to unpair the source device, then re-pair – again, not a deal-breaker, just a minor inconvenience – and to be really fair to nad, this is a common enough issue with any bluetooth device, not just the d 3020. – sound quality: yes, i’m still really happy with this. Other reviewers have highlighted its flaws in comparison to their reference components costing many times more. At this price, the balance of features and sound quality is hard to beat. If you’re after better sound quality at this price, that can be done, though you’d have to sacrifice the features the d 3020 offers.

    1. I have this connected to my tv, blu ray player and tablet so very convenient. I chose this partly as a result of the reviews and partly as i like being able to stand it upright. It’s a decent amp with regards to the sound. The touch section on the top is not the best as takes a few attempts to use it. Same for the remote control. It’s convenient to have one but again it takes many attempts to get it to work.

Unbelievable sound for the money. Bought this as an upgrade for my old nad 3020 which has been gathering dust since it was hidden away from sticky fingered toddlers 8 years ago. I thought i would look for a compact amp ready for the modern age. I went into a well know hi-fi store with an open mind having not really kept up with modern hi-fi. 10 minutes listening to this hardback sized bit of electronic wizardry opened my eyes . Heard it with some qacoustics concept 20s and i had to re-consider what was possible at this end of the market. Competition must be savage as i had no idea that £1300 could buy you (got the bluesound node too) such fabulous kit. Even plugging my fiio x5 into the amp produced a wondrously transparent sound. Bluetooth sounds pretty good too although plugging your kit in is noticeably better.

      1. If you’re looking for a compact amp to power tv speakers this is one to consider. Two optical inputs mean you can connect your satellite box and an apple tv.

    1. Now i’ve always been a a believer that audio gear is about what comes in your ears and badges mean nothing so i took the (brave. I’m old enough to remember the original and back in the day nad were the thinking man’s amp. Now i’ve always been a a believer that audio gear is about what comes in your ears and badges mean nothing so i took the (brave or stupid i don’t know) decision to mate this amp with a bose accustimas 5 system and in the real word of our personal spaces this produces a marvellous sound stage with all the depth clarity and stereo breadth i or anyone else who’s listened to it could want. I admit i was always sniffy about dac to improve digital files but now i’ve seen the light. If you have £750 plus to spend on a system do not look any further than this amp as a start point, it is faultless in all it delivers and looks so sleek.

Sounds great, is future proof and looks nice and neat on the tv stand. I have not had any issues with controls but this is my first amp so don’t have anything to compare it to.

      1. As an “open box” item for £329 after seeing good reviews and me being interested in the bluetooth option. I bought from sevenoaks on the “bay” as an “open box” item for £329 after seeing good reviews and me being interested in the bluetooth option and being able to connect to my pc via usb. I still have my old skool marantz cd-63 ki sig and pioneer 505 precision as sources. It sounds great from any source. I have focal jmlab 716s speakers and was a bit hesitant to use this as my main amp with “only” 30w/channel. It helps that the focals are pretty efficient and produce sound levels that are anti-social (but still without any strain) in my terraced house. Might be different in a larger room. I also have a pair of old royd minstrels and it still has enough power to impress not sure that it will replace my exposure 2010s amp. And my old pioneer a400 will still be at hand for a party.

    1. Despite the positive feedback from others, having bought many top-end big-chassis amps over the years, i wasn’t sure how this amp would cope at higher volumes. I can say that it copes extremely well in this and all other ways.
