Nuimo – Smart Home Controller : Mann jury out at the minute

A gadget in search of a reason to exist. A great concept, beautifully made and with a brilliant tactile feel. It’s just that it doesn’t have enough uses yet. Still waiting for it to control my nest thermostat. I’m sure it will get there but right now i couldn’t recommend it to all but the most geeky of folk. Great for sonos and spotify though.

Cool product, the device is reactive and accurate. Cool product, the device is reactive and accurate, an update a week ago really cleaned up the action for the hands-free bit of control. Feels really nice in the hand (very clean design) but is also stable on my desk and looks great on the wall– i’ve gotten more than a few compliments on it — people seem keen to use it when they come over. I use sonos throughout my house and the rotary dial on the nuimo works perfectly from every room although i’d love some longer range on the ble so i can have just one at home – works in my experience up to about 20 meter with no wall between.

Nice design/weight/materials very good for sonos. Got one of these for my apartment – and as a gift to my brother a few weeks ago. Nice design/weight/materialsvery good for sonos, don’t really see the need for lights at the moment. A bit expensive but you can see some real care that has gone into the product, even the packaging feels top notch. The hands-free control is pretty cool for when you have dirty hands.

I’ve been listening to a fair amount more music since i bought the nuimo. It pairs well with amazon fire tv and leave on the wall when i am away so that my kids can use it (using it with iphone was a huge pain). Very nice to have the versatility to carry the controller around or wall mount as needed. I’m not particularly technical so it’s a really useful product and easy to get a ton of use out of, even if you’re not a techie.

We have two in our office, they work amazing. Beautiful design and easy to use software. Everyone who stops by the office asks about it. It’s definitely something to show off on your wall or desk.

Mann jury out at the minute. Only just got this to work with my existing sonos systems in the house. I think it will take a bit of getting use to. Seems easier just to use your phone as a controller as the nuimo is very sensitive. No display to tell you name of songs etc.

Initial teething issue resolved with latest firmware and now a great tactile remote used daily. Expensive but quality build. Full review from a user having had the nuimo since launch and been using daily for nearly 6 months now. Summary (tl:dr)it was a tough initiation but with the latest changes this is now a must have controller in my garden room for my sonos music system and hue lighting. I would definitely buy it again, but i think it needs to be priced no higher £100 to attract more users. Detailed reviewhardware:the price is high, much of that must be due to the excellent quality of the hardware. This unit is wonderfully well engineered and the quality of the materials is top notch. The smoothness of the volume dial is wonderful. The touch surface is hard plastic/acrylic and is smooth but mat. It has a positive click when pushed much like a quality mouse button click.

Very pleased with it so far. My wife and i both love nuimo so far – we use it everyday to control the music in our living room. We have a sonos play bar and a few other sonos speakers and it was really easy to hook up the whole system to nuimo and just press play. It took me a while to figure out a way to get around using my iphone as a hub (nuimos only ble…. )now we’ve got it set up with a tablet we keep in the lounge and it works great. My advice is to definitely double check what devices you have to connect with (smartphone sucks for a bridge if you live with other people). Overall really nice bit of kit.

Cool, simple, clever device that works well with a variety of stuff. I have to say when i first got nuimo there was a lot to be done on the software side. Luckily the team has been true to their word of pushing regular updates and communicating with the customer base to build up the integrations list. I also experienced the battery recharge issue but it has since been fixed in latest updates and now runs for me regularly for a month or more depending on the use. Huge pro’s of the device include the build quality of the hardware, they really made sure to think about the details and the quality of the materials are excellent. I find it fits really well into my life after hooking it up to my amazon fire tv as a bridge. Cons of the device are of course the list of integrations is still growing, however i primarily planned to use it with sonos (and that’s what i do) so its not a huge issue for me. Will be interested to see how the team tackles further integrations down the line. Overall recommend the hardware – it really is a great alternative to the apps for most smart devices.

Great, high quality but could be just a little better with a few tweaks to the firmware and app. This is a great product and very high build quality. I bought this to provide some physical control of my sonos for my wife who prefers physical controls to using an app. You have to pair with a bluetooth device running the nuimo app, i used an old android phone i had available, if you don’t have this you will need to keep a device in range of the nuimo. The reason i only gave 4 stars rather than 5 was you can’t select a favourite source for your sonos, what i really wanted to do was press the nuimo to turn on the radio, and perhaps long press to cycle through the sonos favourites which would allow my wife to change radio stations without having to get her phone out, so the nuimo hasn’t quite met my requirements, i hope this feature will be added soon. Current controls available for sonos are. – play/pause- volume control- next/previous trackyou can add multiple sonos speakers, and by default swiping down the device changes the selection, this is useful for instance if you have multiple sonos speakers in adjoining areas that you want to control the volume of seperatly. Another feature that would be great – but is missing – would be to use the display to show the room name you are connected to at the monemt you have to remember which is which – sonos shows as a music note and if you have multiple systems they are indicated with a dot on teh screen. The unit comes with a magnetic wall mount (the wall mount sticks to the wall using some sort of double sided tape and the controller sticks to the mount using a powerful magnet)overall the unit is heavy with rubber feet so doesn’t slip when turning the very smooth volume control around the edge of the device. In summary very close to 5 stars but not quite there yet.

      1. Great idea, but limitations prevent it being really useful. I am in exactly the same position as the previous reviewer. I was an early investor and eagerly awaited my nuimo for months. However, now i’ve got it i really can’t find a good use for it. In my view, the dependence on being linked to a bluetooth hub is a major shortcoming, and one that i don’t recall being mentioned in early published information. I expected it to link to my home wifi network. For anyone reading this comment and not sure what i mean by that – the nuimo has to be connected to a compatible bluetooth hub to work. For most that will be their bluetooth enabled phone. However, what if you need to go out with your phone and your other half wants to continue controlling the sonos system, philips hue, etc?.Or you want to use the nuimo in one room while your phone is charging in another?.

Whoa – blown away by the build quality of nuimo. Using it together with my sonos playbar, quite good action for volume/skip songs. Hoping they launch an apple tv app at some point since it’s at the centre of my home theatre system but for music it’s fantastic.

      1. Totally love coming home and pressing ‘play’ on nuimo. Simple and smart – really loving it so far. Planning on investing in a few hue bulbs to check out switching between lights/music and hopefully syncing everything to one-click control for my apartment. Love the design, feels high-quality and sturdy.
