Philips CSS5530B Zenit Cinema Surround Wireless Speakers – Brilliant sound quality

From unpacking to setting up was a breeze. But boy o boy when this system gets up and running it is simply amazing. Bass is outstanding at low to hi volumes with no distortion and detail is excellent and precise on the treble.Speech is clear and the units are modern and stylish, all in all extremely happy with the quality of this device. Was looking at sound bars and bases but nothing can produce true 5:1, highly recommend this product. You definitely won’t be disappointed . I never write reviews but felt i had to as i am that impressed.

Much better than any soundbar which we had before. Easy to set up very pleased and would recommend.

Good, but mine seems to have a glitch. I am using this with my sky box hd. The set up is as follows: sky box hdmi goes in the philips unit (hdmi in port) and then hdmi from the philips unit (hdmi out) goes into the tv hdmi arc connector. Everything seems find in terms of video and sound, however every now and then the image goes black for 1-2 seconds. Sound is still available, it’s just the image that goes black. Any idea why is that happening?. Other than that, sound quality is definitely above average and i enjoy the design and ease of set-up. Here are the specifications for the Philips CSS5530B Zenit Cinema Surround Wireless Speakers:

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • Wireless rear speakers and subwoofer for hassle-free set-up
  • MTM speakers allow loud and truly reproduced sound
  • Subwoofer base reflector radiates sound smoothly
  • HDMI 4K2K pass-through for ultra HD content enjoyment
  • Bluetooth wireless music streaming from your music devices

This is the second system i have had. The first one refused to power on from standby, had to be unplugged at the wall. The subwoofer also made a noise like a wind rush. The replacement however is spot on. Great sound without being overpowering and nice deep bass without being ‘thumpy’. Only other thing to mention is the phillips logo badge was missing off both the subwoofers i have had. Contacted phillips and they said to return the whole thing comes with speaker wall brackets too. Overall very happy and would recommend this for an average sized room.

Brilliant design, no messy wiring. Fabulous product, decent sound with moderate bass, enough for home entertainment. It is probably not for somebody looking for hi-fi. Brilliant design, no messy wiring, set up in one minute.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Nice looking, but speakers are quite heavy – certainly
  • Very good sound quality
  • I’m fairly pleased with this set of speakers – my main priority

I’m fairly pleased with this set of speakers – my main priority. I’m fairly pleased with this set of speakers – my main priority was to get 5. 1 surround without having wires trailing around the room, which is what i’ve achieved. The speakers look great and so far i’ve not experienced any issues at all. Setup was very straightforward, the rear speakers and sub woofer both paired with the centre speaker straight away. There’s only one hdmi input, which isn’t a massive problem because you can just plug the rest directly into the tv but it’s something to keep in mind. Connectivity other than that is pretty good – bluetooth with nfc pairing, optical in and 3. Arc is supported so the speakers can turn off and on with your tv and the volume can be controlled with the tv remote. I made a few adjustments to the levels to suit my room – i found bass was a bit high and had to raise the rear volume slightly.

Great quality and surround sound. Very pleased with the surround sound. Took a little while to set up, but once we worked it out, it was great and the sound is exactly what we wanted.

This is a very good dolby digital 5. Audio is clear and the surround is great, makes watching films and playing games so much more emersive. The front two speakers are connected to the centre speaker which also acts like a amp which controls everything. The rear surround speakers are connected to a little transmitter box that just plugs into a power socket so no long wires trailing across the room which is nice. The wireless sub only needs a power socket and is not connected to anything else. The only down side is that the system does not support dts. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a wireless surround sound system.

Simple designi’d recommend it.

Easy set-up, lack-lustre performance. . Having moved home i bought this unit to replace an old wired sony system. This system had sat in a box for a couple of years as i couldn’t face the task of fighting the wires to the back of the room. The philips system goes together easily and all the bits talk to each other without issue. The remote control to the system is very simple, just a few buttons for volume, tone, source and the like. Having read the advance manual supplied on the cd (all of 8 pages if memory serves) it became apparent that the unit gives very little facility to accommodate for the viewer being off centre (balance) or the distance of the viewer from the front / rear speakers, all of which and more were facilities within my old system. My favorite ‘demo disk’ is star wars ‘the phantom menace’, in particular the opening ship carrying the characters as it moves side to side across the screen and also rear to front. The old system expressed this to great effect. The philips system gives some stereo but not the level of impact that a 12+ year younger system really should be giving. On the pro’s side, it sets up easily and looks nice, cons to me at least are the lack lustre performance and limited facility for sound adjustments.

I’m not a professional of sound but this home cinema is really powerful with a very good quality sound. Pros : very convenient to not have the cable along the room for the rear speakers. I’m not a professional of sound but this home cinema is really powerful with a very good quality sound, plugged my ps3 in optical and we plug our laptops through the hdmi cable. Use bluetooth for my iphone or laptop to listen music. Its black color is really nice and merge perfectly with my black tv stand which make it very discreet as well as the small display which switch off after few seconds. Cons :- no settings- not enough plug for other devices. I really recommend it if you want a good quality sound without the bother of the cables for the rear speakers.

Having had this for several months, i kinda like this unit but i wanted to really love it. It sounds great when i play internet radio through it, or tracks from my phone. But when i watch tv or play a dvd, it sounds dullish, a little muffled. It’s certainly miles better than the sony sound bar it replaced but i just wish films were crisper. Having said that i often feel the same way when i watch a film at the cinema. Unless i want to spend a grand or more on a sound system, i’d still pick this one.

  1. Nice looking, but speakers are quite heavy – certainly. Nice looking, but speakers are quite heavy – certainly more than some ”satellite” speakers. Main issue is that it was a continental model that was delivered so has european plus (3 of them) meaning i’ve got to buy adapters in order to use it. Hopefully all will work ok once fully set up.

Very good sound quality however on occasion do get some sub-woofer interference however i’ve not noticed this as much since moving the sub-woofer away from the rear speaker unit.

Looks stylish and sound is good. I only would add more equaliser settings to the the sound and remote set keyboard light.

    1. A decent 5. 1 kit, with the advantage of wireless surround + no dedicated blu-ray player. Bought this to replace a basic sound bar which was a few years old, after i upgraded to a new 4k setup. For some reason, soundbars seem to be very expensive for what they offer, and i personally prefer the sound a 5. I like that all the surround speakers in this system are effectively the same, so the overall effect is very immersive sound (rather than just when there’s an explosion behind the camera in a film, for example). Of course, when watching something with true 5. I’m mainly using this as day to day tv speakers, so preferred this kind of set up – plus the fact there’s no dedicated blu-ray player helps in this sense (i don’t need one as it’s just hooked up via hdmi cec). Sound quality probably doesn’t match the most expensive systems on the market (would have loved to get a sonos setup), and speech can sometimes be a bit muffled. Music however sounds awesome.

    1. My first review for a product. Bought this after some research. Very happy with the sound quality. 1 sound turns the tv programs in to a live show as being there. The bass is deep and good and the sound moves around the room/speakers. On the negative, it doesn’t have many sound effects adjustments to play with, does not support thx, has only one hdmi input and no optic input, but i was aware of this before purchase. Good purchase for a small to medium room to watch tv. I’ve saved the original packaging for now and hope the product lasts well.

    1. I looked at this for some time before purchasing. Clearly not a product widely sold in the uk, add that it’s philips and i wasn’t sure how good this would really be. As it turns out it’s excellent and far superior to my old sony setup, which had an amp within the subwoofer. Bass and treble are solid enough and the midrange is effective if not outstanding. Truth is, if like me you want a 5. 1 setup without an amp then you’ll struggle to find something better.
