Pioneer PL-30-K Fully Automatic Vinyl Turntable – Sounds great with automatic convenience if you upgrade the cartridge!

Perfect for getting back into vinyl. After letting my record collection sit dormant for about 15 years without anything to play them on, i really have swung back round to vinyl again. After doing a little bit of research and knowing that i certainly wasn’t ready to start splashing out on expensive options form the likes of pro-ject or rega, the pl-30-k seemed to be the perfect fit. Excellent sounding, easy to set up.

The unit feels very well made and its quite heavy (which is a good thing). It also looks and sounds great. Extremely well packed and protected and delivered quickly. It took me (a relative newbie to turntables) about 15-20 minutes to set it up. The instructions were decent but i took my time as i didn’t want to mess it up. The unit feels very well made and its quite heavy (which is a good thing). It also looks and sounds great. I am comparing it to an old second hand technics deck though so i would expect some improvement. I am pleased with it and for a fully automatic unit, it was great value for money.

I wanted a direct drive – i should have read. I wanted a direct drive – i should have read in more detail. When searching for direct drive this model comes up then at the bottom mentions belt drive – sent back. Here are the specifications for the Pioneer PL-30-K Fully Automatic Vinyl Turntable:

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • Fully Automatic Operation controlled by a single button
  • Built in phono pre-amplifier allows connecting the PL-30 directly to virtually any amplifier
  • Double layered chassis to reduce unwanted vibrations
  • Equipped with an exchangeable high quality Audio Technica MM (Moving Magnet) cartridge

Does exactly what it says on the tin. No noise, no distortion and played through a good amp with quality speakers sounds exactly how music is meant to sound, as if they are in the room with you. Whilst mp3s are convenient for being on the move there is nothing quite like pulling some vinyl out of the sleeve and investing the time that was required to really appreciate the work that went into the product and i have to say, of all the many turntables i have owned, this outstrips them all.

Great quality and fast delivery.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Good turntable but lot of feedback and Hum through Speakers
  • Sounds great with automatic convenience if you upgrade the cartridge!
  • More perfect than perfect

Excellent product, no problems.

I can only add to positive comments already on record. Easy to set up and works very nicely thank you very much. Highly recommend both turntable and the seller.

Excellent product, well packaged. Fast delivery – recommended.

I originally owned a pro-ject debut carbon which was really good but decided to opt for a semi or full automatic deck as i wanted something that would switch off automatically at the end of the vinyl. After much searching i came across the pl-30-k. Although it’s advertised as an audiophile turntable it’s obviously not. However, the build quality is surprisingly good and after dumping the basic at cartridge that came as standard with it and replacing it with a better quality one, i can honestly say the results are excellent. Its actually on a par with turntables costing £300-£400 – as long as you spend around £100 on a decent cartridge. The extra thick rubber mat is excellent on this model. At first i was very dubious about buying this turntable. However, now it’s set-up properly and the cartridge upgraded i’m delighted – and very impressedwell done pioneer.

Sounds great with automatic convenience if you upgrade the cartridge. I had to post a review here as i’ve had one of these for a while. I really struggle to understand why people say there are pitch issues. What i would recommend is that, thanks to the design, under the turntable you can adjust the turntable speed for both 33 and 45 speeds. Download a rpm app on your phone and place your phone on the slip mat. I would then just using a small screwdriver just wiggle and adjust the speed settings. I’ve done this for both my pl30 and sister denon dp300 and once set they work flawlessly. Such a beautiful feature to press a button and play a record. You can also upgrade the cartridge so i’d definitely get a £100 cartridge and a phono amp. Once you have that this turntable is brilliant, one of the best value and tweakable automatic turntables.

Beautiful unit, but balancing weight missing.

Brilliant , wouldn’t be without it.

  1. I haven’t had any of the problems cited by other reviewers. For my money it’s a great entry level deck that is fully automated and looks the part, which is what i wanted. Sounds fine with my arcam amp and dynaudio speakers.

No speed fluctuations, automation is great, low static, i’m using my shure mx97e cartridge, sounds awesome, through phono or line in. Big teac amp and alesis speakers. I know it’s good because the lp my band made sounds just like it’s supposed to on it. One quibble, with the lid down auto return won’t work as the arm lifts too high and gets stuck. So that’s why 4 instead of 5.

Fab turntable, easy set up ish, love the arm and cartridge, was looking for a direct drive after years of belt drives, a great choice well reviewed a solid built to last bit of kit, was cheap at £300, but at £250 a no brainier.

Brilliant turntable for price. . This turntable ticks all the boxes for me. Having a straight arm, replaceable cartridge and adjustable arm weight means i can upgrade in the future. The auto facility is useful for me due to the limited height in the hi-fi cabinet. 25/02/2016: i feel that i must add to this review, as during the time i was using this turntable, i noticed what appeared to be a little “wow” and then occasionally the speed would vary and these faults ruined the sound of the music. I have reluctantly returned for refund while i asess what i could buy to replace itmy previous review is still true and i would have preferred to keep it if the faults did not occur.
