Pro-Ject Audio Systems Primary Hi-Fi Turntable – : Great turntable with excellent sound but it missing customization options.

You may get motor vibrations played into the perspex lid which is quite loud and annoying. Remove the lid-holder poles from the back to get a lovely, clear, and oh-so detailed vinyl playback system. (if you don’t, you may get motor vibrations played into the perspex lid which is quite loud and annoying). The mdf platter, low-mass arm, and ortofon om-5e cartridge conspire to make beautiful music together. :-d just be careful not to dislodge the belt (mine rides more centrally around the platter – other reviews have shown theirs ride nearer the top of the platter), and you’ll be well away. I lower the stylus onto the outer groove before starting the motor switch to eliminate any chance of this light-tracking arm/cartridge from skipping into the first grooves of the music, and all is fabulous.

I’m really happy with this turntable,. The sound is clear and well balanced. Really easy setup and operation. The only drawback is the belt being outside and really close to the records so you have to be careful when taking of the records. Other than that there is nothing to complain about.

Excellent value & quality built turntable. I was very pleased with this turntable when it arrived and particularly impressed with the way it was more or less fully set-up straight out of the box. I didn’t need to spend ages fitting the cartridge and balancing etc – it was all done in the factory which was an added bonus. As far as quality goes, the build is typical of pro-ject – above-average quality and solid. I’ve tested the turntable fully connected to my pioneer amp and tannoy speakers and i can honestly say i’m delighted with the sound quality – rich, deep and warm – the ortofon cartridge that came pre-fitted was a good choice to compliment the unit. Overall – this is an excellent budget audiophile starter turntable that produces top quality sound and on a par with turntables costing considerably more. Overall, yes – i’d have no hesitation in recommending this turntable – an excellent choice for beginners or audiophiles on a budget.

I only realised after i had unpacked and assembled it that it was not a primary turntable but a debut iii – a discontinued model – that had been delivered. Not sure if this was a mistake or not but as it matched the specification i was seeking decided to keep it. (plus i had trashed the packing). So i can’t really give a review for the primary turntable. Both seem very similar with ortofon cartridge so the stylus is easily replaced.

Pro-Ject Audio Systems Primary Hi-Fi Turntable – White : Fantastic after setting up correctly. I had to adjust the counterweight as there was a noticeable distortion, but after doing this it’s perfect. So just a heads up that you may need to adjust the weight manually; the manual states it was “perfectly” set up, but ignore that.

Great turntable that sounds superb.

Great turntable with excellent sound but it missing customization options. . Sound is excellent for the price and the design is flawless. Only problem as mentioned by another buyer the counterweight was not setup correctly. It uses the om5-e which requires a tracking force between 1. 5g and 2g with a recommended of 1. Well mine was set to about 2. I had to adjust the weight on the back which was really easy.

Easy to set up, incredible sound. Quality written all over it. If you want to get into hi fi then this is the turntable for you.

In love since the moment i pulled it out of its box. In love since the moment i pulled it out of its boxi’ve been eyeing a decent turntable for quite some time. Can’t even recall the amount of evenings i spent doing my research that ultimatelly lead to buying this deck. It’s very simple to setup, just take it out of the box, place it somehwere nice, connect all the cables (you’ll need a phono pre-amp or an amp with phono stage) and voila. I had to adjust the cartridge slightly as it wasn’t aligned properly. Thankfully, pro-ject guys added a printed two-point cartridge alignment protractor and corresponding screw driver. I must say that i’m totally blown away. The sound is just amazing, considering i use this deck with a cheap stereo (working on upgrading that, too, haha). I have yet to listen to my record collection but the few tests i did really got me very excited. I haven’t noticed any platter speed drifting, which is great as i like to listen to jazz. The only time i was left a little worried was when the ups guy rang at the door, dropped the box froun about a foot height (box was upside down, no less). I was praying to god the deck survives this harsh handling. It’s very well packaged, with ample ‘buffer’ zones around the device.

  1. The deck itself is great quality. I was upgrading from very basic “briefcase deck” so this was a huge improvement for me. Great sound, good quality needle.
