The sound quality is excellent. The sound quality is excellent, and drives my speakers nice and loud. The build quality is clearly excellent. And the motorised volume wheels feels beautiful. I use these with a pair of seas idunn speakers which i built myself, and digital audio from my pc (optical). The headphone out (amped) is also excellent. Very very happy with my purchase.
Well specified and detailed if forward sound from this modestly priced amp. . My existing equipment is rega planar 3 turntable with dynavector dv-10×5 cartridge and arcam alpha 6 cd player and a pair of linn keilidh ls300 floor standing speakers on plinths. I rather like yamaha amps, my av amp is a rx-v777 so i was confident that i would like the yamaha a-s501. Its a solid piece of electronics and typically yamaha well finished with all the controls having a quality feel. Connections are extensive and well laid out. On first power up and playing black sabbath master of reality on vinyl i found the base nicely extended and quite well controlled, however the vocals had a hard edge and the treble sounded a little too bright for my liking. Next i tried beethoven symphony no. Again the midrange was a little too forward and adding a sharpness to the vocals that i hadn’t heard on this disc previously. I decided to let the amp burn in for a couple of days to see if there was any improvement.

Quality hi fi amp from yamaha. Ordered this yamaha a-s501 integrated amplifier – black as my denon rcdn8 had given up the ghost after only 3 years and i cannot live without my music. Ordered in the evening and amazon delivered next day for only and extra £6. Had an arcam amp, marantz cd, denon tuner, sony minidisk, technics tape deck for 20 years and sounded superb through my mordaunt short floors tanders, but streamed a lot using my squeezebox, so cd, tuner and tape were not used much and kit was taking up a lot of room so decided to get rid and replace with the aforementioned denon. Don;t get me wrong the denon rcdn8 really was very good indeed sonically, felt solid, and was nice and compact, but constantly had problems losing wifi/signal when streaming and was shall we say was a bit glitchy. I’ve always had a soft spot for yamaha hi-fi, they are always built solidly, look good and most importantly of course sound good. Out of the box, wow, it’s meaty, feels really well built, nice solid push on/off switch, ample connections, built-in dac and i personally like it’s looks, it’s a bit retro i. How amps looked years ago, big and rectangular. I hooked in my squeezebox, via coaxial digital lead, as i suspected that the dac in the amp would be better than the one in the squeezebox and fired up the as501 and played both internet radio and mp3s. Very, very impressed and pleased with the sound that came out of my floor standing mordaunt short speakers, crisp and clean vocals with a terrific sound stage and enough bass to make the most of my speakers and played everything i through at it with aplomb. Maybe not bassy enough for some peoples tastes or types of music, but to my ears, a delight to hear things i never heard in tracks played on the denon and that i have not heard since my wonderful old arcam. After a couple of days, i got a yamaha cds300 cd player, after deliberating between it and a marantz 6005 or a cheaper 5005.
Best quality for 200 quid new. For the money you cant go wrong paird with q 2050i.
Yamaha A-S501 Integrated Amplifier – Silver : I’ve had this a few months now. Was originally going to get the model below this. But a good deal on amazon meant i could get more bangs for my buck. Nice punchy sound through my ancient speakers. Great for me as i have a bunch of legacy apparatus.Cassette deck/mini disc player/radio.
Sound very good panel bootms and knobs are made of cheep plastic.
Top and bottom are clear and separate, they are well articulated and have no distortion when played loud. I’m missing sound spectrum in a middle band. On other hand, get yourself graphic equalizer and get sound as you like it (warm or cold or vintage) lol. Some people like old junk and will stick to it until dead. This amplifier is better around in given price range.
It`s good, but not the top end.
Unbeatable hifi amp and looks great in silver. Had a yamaha amp in the past and couldn’t imagine buying any other make now. This really delivers in all areas. Looks stunning in silver – worth the extra money, so go for it.
Great piece of kit, links all of my audio equipment together. Sound quality is exceptional.
1 book shelf speakers and it sounded amazing. Later added klipsch r-12sw subwoofer and that boosted. Connected the amp to wharfedale diamond 10. 1 book shelf speakers and it sounded amazing. Later added klipsch r-12sw subwoofer and that boosted performance of the amp.
Fabulous in its simplicity – digital , cd , vinyl any source you like. . Simple – a fab amp with more headroom than you can shake a big stick at . Get some speaker that can take real punch and you will love the combination. Clear controllable adaptable, everything you want from an amplifier – simple. The sound is literally as big and as heavy as the beast itself. Do i know what im talking about : i play with live concert systems every day so yeh i know my stuff.
Easily the best amp for under £200. For the price this amp is brilliant. I had a rega elex-r (£895) before this amp – while the mids on the rega were obviously better, this amp knocks the rega out of the park in terms of bass. There is no way on earth the rega is worth the addition £700. If you need an amp and have a limited budget – get this. I am currently waiting on the yamaha a-s2100 to arrive.
