Yamaha Electronics Yamaha A-S201 Integrated Amplifier – : Good stereo amplifier

Sound was great, bass was deep but clear. Bit of a mishap – went in to buy a as301 but ended up with the as201 because the guy in the shop said they were identical (which they certainly are not) as i was meaning the difference between a as501 and as301 which are identical in look. So got home and was a little gutted to find it was the wrong model and for £20 more i could of had the very well reviewed as301, however. I kept the as201 because when i reluctantly hooked it up to see if it was worth returning i was pleasantly surprised, sound was great, bass was deep but clear, definitely a yamaha worthy sound (previous yamaha owner) and was better than the nad amp i was replacing. I also liked the fully digital controls as you can control everything from the remote even the bass / treble. Simply put when i turned this amp up i realised for my neighbours sake that i really didn’t need the more powerful as301 and i appreciated the full remote functions enough to want to keep it. If you really need the extra volume then i’d go as301 or as501 but if your not planning on powering a disco then this one is a very good option.

If you are concerned about specifications on paper then this is probably not the best amp for you. I purchased this amplifier to replace a denon amp that i have been using for the past 26 years, the speakers that i am still using are bowers & wilkins dm6. If you are concerned about specifications on paper then this is probably not the best amp for you, (10% thd at 100 watts and 0. That said, on listening tests though i could not detect any difference in sound quality from this amp at even high sound levels than the more expensive amps, even though on paper they had better specifications. (maybe my ears are not what they used to be?). I would recommend this amplifier as it has excellent sound quality even at high volumes, several pre-set options memorised when the amp is switched on, a remote control that has more functions than i could find on any other amplifier and the bonus of a front panel display.

The specs that yamaha claim for this amp are way offfor instance the manual claims: maximum power (8 ohms, 1 khz, 10% thd) 100 w + 100 w. Notice the 10% total harmonic distortionfurther down in the manual we get a more honest rating: total harmonic distortion (20 hz–20 khz) :- cd, etc. So as we can see it’s only a 50 watt amp into 8 ohm load with acceptably low distortion with probably 80 watts into 4 ohms load. Having said all that the amp does sound good but i wish that yamaha had been more honest with the ratings. Nothing wrong with a 50 watt amp especially at this price point.

Yamaha A-S201 Integrated Amplifier – Black : Great product, really good sound and excellent quality.

This thing works well, provides clean 2 channel audio. This thing can push your speakers hard, assuming they are hard hitters.

Marvellous excellent thank you.

For the money this is a great amp for your music system. Pumps out up to 100w so as long as you have decent speakers to match then you shouldn’t be disappointed (unless you’re one of those people who expects the very best for very little, or ‘naive’ as a single word definition)sadly i had to send it back as i realised that what i really needed was an av receiver with hdmi/usb/optical capabilities, but for the 2 months i had it is was my best amp-friend.

This is a replacement for my kenwood that got over heated. Wow the pure sound on this unit is a lot clearer and sharp. Very happy, i then bought a yamaha cd player with usb port this too sounds brilliant.
